View Full Version : Who will win the MS title at the 2009 WC?

Why would they complain, that's smart. Well prepared player always beat less-prepared player.
Because there were those who questioned Msia for bringing 2 chefs (and LCW for the short trip to Korea, and ..... etc, etc, etc, the list goes on.
Jasonmarc knows that I know the history, LOL, no need to elaborate.
Against a super fit LCW, LD would have to count on some really magical skillset to overcome LCW. And that is the cruncher - his skillset is not that great these days (tit for tat, LCW does not lose out to him).
In the past, LCW was hounded by LD for the following reasons:
- speed
- skillset (drop shots, rallies, smashes)
- defence
- Strategy
- confidence
If you are any analyst, you will also know the above reasons are unlikely to apply any more. Today, LCW is on of the fastest player, if not the fastest, on court today. He is awesomely fast. His last tournament showed him with one the best net plays (this boy has been practicing, you can tell). Rallies ? Well, remember the Swiss Open - LD wouldn't want to remember ! Smashes ? Can anyone fault LCW - his cross court shots are now as lethal as LD, and he is not shy of smashing LD.
Well, defence is always something to argue about - but over time, I noticed defence is always going to drop for anyone not fit (e.g. if you have several hard matches). So I would say, this is not going to be a problem for a very fit LCW.
Strategy wise, Misbun is not a slouch when plotting the strategy for LCW. He knows LD's game after so many years watching him (the game is up - Misbun has him mapped for every 'genome', if I can borrow the term). Additionally, LM has given LCW some great tips (of course, not to be shared here :D).
Does anyone still think LCW lacks confidence ? Well think twice if you are still not convinced. LCW thinks he will 'eat' LYB for breakfast, the guy he got easily distracted by.:D
Need I say more ?;)
With such super assets, yet he lost to lowly NTM in the Singapore SS not too long ago...hahahahaha! :D:D:D

LCW can match LD OG08 speed????
About LCW's short trip to Korea, instead of making more trips in the future, why not bid for LM's services again in the new season and let Misbun take a well-deserved rest and spend more time with his wife.
Then LCW can be sure of a better chance to win the WC and perhaps have another go at the gold medal at the London Olympics 2012, hopefully LD would have lost all motivation to win another gold medal by then.:D

He will not let the tough trainings he had undergone gone for nowhere except at Hyderabad, India! He will reach his top form in term of mentality and skills! LD had has his in Olympic last yr..hehe

Well I'm not too sure whether "The Thing" was brought back or he himself made a return to CHN since the political conditions in INA then were not too condusive for the Chinese.
Maybe some one can confirm that aspect of The Thing's history. ;)
I hope Malaysians can now understand better why Singapore needs "foreign imports" to help improve things. Not too long ago there was a very strong attack on Singapore's "foreign imports" policy.

U heard about a word call "team order"? If this is the case, LD just sit there also can win..I am talking about IF.. Hopefully this time CHN won't get complaint for their famous's "team order"
I don't think it will be easy for Lin Dan pass Bao CL this time in the 3rd round.
when Bao was asked to play Lin Dan in the training camp, he refused, and the reason was that they would play very soon in the world championship. This indicates that
Bao really wants to win at WC, at least win against LD
There's no fixing in the WC
Bao has developed some secret weapons against LD
Let's look at their latest results:
Bao just won 5 star Singapore super series, and skipped Indonesia open
LD skipped the Singapore, and lost to Chen Jin at Ina open
Bao has won 3 titles this year
LD has lost to too many people this year: to Chen Jin twice, to Chen Long, to Lee CW...
Therefore, I will not be surprised to see LD lost in the 3rd round.

Which means LD should not fear having to meet his own teammates until the final perhaps! :D
Incidentally, I suspect BCL's recent injury must be the main reason for his straight games loss to Dicky Palyama. Sorry 2cents may have been given wrong information.
Surprisingly, Court 3 has completed 4 matches and Court 1 has only finished one match!, the starting time being the same.

yes, agree. His recent injury is the main reason for his fall in this WC. He did not have systematic training for the past few weeks also because he was in HK to undergo some treatment plus some light training :( Biggest upset..

If BCL was not fit to participate in this 2009 WC, then why was he included in the CHN team?

Hi suetyan ,
If BCL was not fit to participate in this 2009 WC, then why was he included in the CHN team?
.
because Li Yongbo still has faith in BCL. Although BCL is not fit enough currently, but LD, BCL and CJ are still the top 3 in China team. But maybe sooner or later, CL will take over one of these positions. BCL claimed that there is no wind problem on the court today, he also doesn't know why he will lose. But unsystematic training is the main factor of course.

BCL lost because LYB did not think of DP as an opponent thus BCL had no rote training with a DP clone.
So BCL lost confidence resulting in the tail end match collapse.
( Also, CHN's stamina advantage does not feature in the early stages of a tournament against non-CHN veterans.)

IMO:
BCL lost just becoz he want to skip "team orders"
Why he must fight hard if in the end he had to surrender to LD?
Hahaha kiddin :p
Seems like those "bad knee" rumours and such are true, after all
Poor LD, he must burn some extra sweat, LOL
.....
Well at least BCL already packed 3 titles this year
Now he can enjoy his trip in Hyderabad
He also still got lots of instant noodles to enjoy, though

Why would it be any tougher for him ? LD has got weight on his shoulder -- he is expected to win by the poll. He carries the whole of China 1.5Billion people on his shoulder. LCW has got very little.
No, I think LCW will breeze through this tournament.

As for BCL, LYB (the coach) already gave the game away when he said in an interview before the start of the WC that he does not feel it is right that BCL gets to be in the same group as LD so many times.
By saying that, I can feel BCL would be excused by the coach if he does not go through to meet LD. And I think LYB would have said to him, don't bother to go past the 1st round as you might meet up with LD and we do not want that to happen because you might stress LD.

That weight on his shoulder has grown much lighter now since he has the experience of carrying it twice before including the weightier Beijing Olympics gold medal which he captured on the more demanding home soil. A third time should be a breeze for LD instead and it is an added incentive to create a record. Li Ning must already have something 'unbeatable' up their sleeves to reward him for carrying their name high up in the sky. ;)
The Datuk, on the other hand, has not only to live up to the expectations of his loyal fans but also those of the politicians who gave him the title. :o So much so the 'kiasuism' got onto him like the swine fever and he has to travel to KOR to seek former guru LM for further assistance. Poor coach Misbun has no alternative but to accompany him despite being given something akin to a "slap in the face", but as in his calm and unoffensive nature, Misbun of course chose not to display his hidden displeasure and "embarrassment". :o

A debate without proper facts would have lost. Like saying Misbun
has no alternative but to go - when time and again, Misbun corrected that by saying he was consulted and agreed that LCW and he should go. If he felt he was short-changed, Misbun would have said so and would not have gone - so again, you have thrown another insult, this time at Misbun.

rightly analysed.
in fact, the weight on LD during OG is much much bigger: he lost in the previous OG; unlike western sportsman, home soil to Chinese player is always not an advantage but big big pressure.
therefore this time I would rather worry about whether LD still have the same strong desire to win as he effectively has won everything... so it's not a surprise if he lost... and not even a disaster if he lost to LCW, as anyway he still has more much more major titles and big head-to-head record advantage than LCW, the WR#1.
on the other hand, LCW is more eager to win his first major title... As I said previously, given the WC being held once every year now, LCW may eventually win his first one... so it would not be a surprise if he win this one...
maybe we move on and create a thread on how many WCs (and/or major titles) would be won by LD and LCW respectively at the end of their careers....:rolleyes:

LD winning this WC09 would make him 3x champion, a record and also, deny LCW from crowning WC, makes a joke of the WR, endorsement from LN and bonus, etc...therefore LD desire to win is unquestioned.
LCW of course is more eager to win WC...prestige, lifting a monkey of his back, a WC, pride, respect...and to a LCW being a professional baddy player (playing baddy is his fulltime job), big time $$$ in the bank and consider that LCW career is ending fast, if he doesn't win this time, next year will be tougher.

There is equal pressure on both. Winning the OG does not exempt LD from any pressure but in fact adds more pressure as he is the defending champion.
In fact, if LD loses, he knows tongues would wag. As a champ, he does not like to lose. He will not go into the match thinking that if he loses it will be ok, as some people would suggest.

Totally agree with you...Both are favs to win, therefore pressure apply to both. LD does not like loosing, he is expected to win (look at the polls and on past records where LD play majors, his concentration and intensity spikes) and that is a champion attitude, much like TH. This WC crown means a heck of a lot to both, so much is on the line, therefore, it is silly even to entertain the thought that either player lacks the desire to win...as Vince Lombardi once said "winning is not everything, but the only thing".

Yes, I think LD would play even more explosive badminton this time because he knows LCW will get him if he does not - like you say, a champ has got attitude. It is unthinkable that he will want to lose to LCW.
I am expecting a battle of the titanic. But of course, my view is bias as a fan of LCW. And that is why I think LCW will beat him:D

LYB said LD is better in every aspect than LCW if he plays to his standard. However I think LCW can take comfort from the fact that he is better than LD in every aspect when playing against CJ and Lee Yung Yil. Against them, LCW has 80% of winning the battles while LD has only, at most 50%, to beat the above opponents and he should tell LYB about that.

We respect you as LCW greatest fan, nothing wrong and nothing to shy about...I would like Datuk to win too being an ex-MAS myself, nothing to apologize for being partisan towards MAS...I just wish for both to meet at the SF (should be the final actually) cos that is one game that I really want to see, for one player can set a record and the other player is playing very well and WR1. Hopefully both play their best. That would be one hell of a game to watch.

I must admit I am ashamedly an 'offline fan' - I have not even shaken his hands. :D:o

Come to think of it, I think I'm not wrong to say I'm ex-MAS too albeit for a short history of about two years. ;):D
But I've shaken LCW's hands, got his autograph and had a pic with him too!
During my time, I was also ex-British subject (?):o, ex-JPN subject  too. :o

Of course I don't expect LCW to give chance to NTM, neither do I think NTM wants any chance from LCW.
In fact NTM must be well prepared for the worst from LCW who is seeking revenge for his mistake of underestimating him and not being well-prepared the last time. NTM will counter every stroke from LCW in the best possible way to outwit and outdo LCW, to go for every shot, to frustrate LCW, to test his patience which will grow thiner and thiner until it explodes in the wrong direction and to repeat his Singapore Open performance. So that his critics will forever hold their tongue and peace. :p
When I say give NTM a chance of course I mean to give him a chance to shine again, to repeat his giant-killer performance! After all he is still the underdog ... ;):D

Haha, Mr Crystal Ball, I know you are completely shattered with LCW's recent defeat by SDK in the QF, something you never thought could happen because you've been bragging that "LCW will win the WC 100%" after beating LD in the SF.
But it was not meant to be. It was Sony who won the privilege of playing with Super Dan in the SF although he lost in the end. To his credit, Sony took a game off LD to confirm his win over LCW was no fluke.
