Hi guys, I keep on wonder why Yonex racquets in Malaysia so cheap? We here can get Yonex Titanium all version for under RM 150.00(around 50 dollar US). And i really don't know how to trace the original one:mad: The shopkeeper keep on telling me that "all Yonex is original lah". But when i read a few magazine that stated Yonex
racquet worth about $400.00(RM 1520.00) i feel so depressed that i dont KNOW HOW to trace the original one. I had Titanium Pro 30 and my friend Titanium Pro 50 and we got that for about RM 100 (US 38.00). WOnder what is the physical differences between the original one and fake?Hope u guys can tell me:rolleyes:
Is there any serial number, guarantee card or something that I can take for guides?
Thank You.:)

Firstly, no racket is gonna cost u more than RM1000. Thats just too much.... Secondly, those Titanium Pro rackets are not fakes. If i'm not wrong, there is the Titanium Pro 30, 50 and 60. I have the 60.
Their not fakes, their just lesser known Titanium rackets. If theres such word as that.....

Thank You Byro,I think RM 1000 is too much...i just compare it with USD only :D Since u r from Penang, may i know which site? I live at Bkt Mertajam.
Anyway, why there is no review about Pro 30,50 and 60 huh?I heard about Ti10 and so on(frankly i never see Ti10 so far here), why this Titanium Pro series dont have a
'place' in this site? Not so popular uh?

oh yah i bought it for RM 169 plus a 10 % discount so its RM 152(around $30)
Maybe because of a bigger market there and therefore yonex can lower the price down for malaysia and other asian countries. racquets in general are much cheaper in asia as compared to here in N. America I guess for 2 very good reasons. First, bigger market in asia, and second, that's where all the racquets are made.

Yah, we here can get ProAce Stroke 317 and all Yonex TitaniumPro series below RM 100 (us 38.00). They said it come from the Yonex factory in Indonesia...maybe that's why we have a much more less prices than other country. Anyone want's a cheaper racquet can get it at Megamall Pinang at Seberang Prai for factory prices!

Hi guys!
Seeing that you all are in Malaysia, can I ask about the popular Carbonex 20 SP series that is on sale around the country?
I bought a Carbonex 20 SP from the Mines just a month ago and I did a check on the racquet yesterday and found that it looks a little unusual.
From the threads and articles that I have been reading it seems that the way to identify genuine racquet is to look for
1) nice glossy paint job
2) serial numbers
3) 'JAPAN'
4) PBSI logo ONLY for SP racquets (I'd venture a guess that the Indonesian Badminton Association got their racquets all from Singapore)
5) hologram stickers (I read about this being discontinued due to the pirates being able to duplicate)
My racquet, in comparison to the attributes above :
1) non-glossy. the surface is somewhat 'smooth-rough' like the surface of a brand new non-stick frying pan. the colour is black with gold spots all around. overall, the paint job is good; not botched, not amateurish.
2) both serial numbers are there. can't seem to find the third anywhere at all (I'd venture a guess that it is at the handle where the wood is. Found it there on my Cab13)
3) JAPAN is there, but the logo and writing is GOLD on BLACK! This is the biggest cause of concern!
4) PBSI logo. Mine is SP.
5) No holograms. So does all the newer MPs and Tis that I have seen.
Bought it for RM159. (Around US$ 40)
Any clues? Thanks.

normal lah, its the common trait in the carbonex 20and above series i think
i think u should read in more detail the previous threads on real and fakes, yes serial numbers r a tell tale sign, but the issue is not only whether they r present or not but if they r made with laser technology or if they r printed on

how does 'laser-etched' look like?

The titanium pro series mentioned earlier are all original item, but Yonex consider it as lower end. Higher end for Titanium series are Ti-10, Ti-7 light etc. I bought Ti-7 light recently for about RM 300.

Just FYI, a student of mine bought a Ti5 for RM 300 at KLCC.
i'm not that surprise on the price your student has to pay since he bought it in klcc. so far, pertama complex i.e. etakoh and racketworld give the best offers due to lower rental cost as oppose to klcc. plus they do have a very high stock turnover.
The Titanium Pro series is a different series than the main stream Ti series that Yonex advertises. the mainstream Ti series (Ti-10, Ti-8, Ti-7, etc) are higher prices and are made in Japan. the Titanium Pro series is a budget series are of lower quality and are made in Taiwan.
i will be really suprised if you can find all of the Ti series in Malaysia for less US$50.

I concur with Kwun.
I do not recommend the Titanium Pro series. I had a student who bought two Titanium Pro 60 s and broke both of it in the past few months. Even the shop vendor had advised me against this series because the build is somewhat fragile. Stringing it over 20lbs can also deform the head. Still, I used it before, and it was somewhat decent... ;) It is light, no question, but rather, it's a matter of preference and budget.
The Ti5, on the other hand, is rather sturdy in comparison to the Titanium Pro series.
A Titanium Pro 30 costs RM 89.90 (US$ ~22).
Still, I advised my students to learn to play the game before going out and purchasing an expensive top of the line racquet. One is only as good as his skills, not the racquet. Many seems to not understand this. I had one who is good in badmiton; give him any racquet and he'd outplay you, anytime. :D

Hmm... I've never used any other racquet other then Carb 8... always want to try others but it seems to fit me fine... anyway how can anyone tell if a racquet is a fake or not?

Price would probably be the first thing you look at
Region Code
Appearance
Who's selling it - Authorized Yonex dealers will always carry genuine racquets unless they plan to start selling counterfeit ones (Thanks BRL) ;)

Since you're in Selangor, Jo, from what I have been reading for the past couple of months, Pertama Complex seems the best place to get one (a colleague spoke about the competition of the sport equipment shops there).
As for genuine products, I summarize what I have read about Yonex racquets from BadmintonForum.com :
1. Paint job - must be close to perfect or perfect; nicely done, no amateurish work
2. Serial numbers - two visible numbers on the 'cone' and on the shaft next to the cone. The third... I'd stab a guess that it's on the wood of the handle; found one when I was changing the grip of my old Cab 13.
Both visible serial numbers are laser-etched; nice, thin, perfect numbers; not pressed on, not painted.
3. 'JAPAN' on the cap. The cap should also look nice and rounded, the colour nice green.
Note : As, kwun pointed out to me, Cab 20, 21 and 25 (he thinks) had gold logo and 'JAPAN' on black. (thanks kwun).
4. The price. If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Here's a list of a few in KL that I know the prices of (checked to be 99.9% non-fake) as of 11 May 2003:
- Cab 20 SP : RM 159 (Mines Shopping Fair)
- Cab 21 SP : RM 179 (Mines Shopping Fair, IOI Mall)
- Cab 8200 Light : RM 120 (Mines Shopping Fair, IOI Mall)
- Ti5 : RM 350 (KLCC)
- MP 55 : RM 190 (A sport shop in OUG), RM 245 (Mines Shopping Fair)
- MP 77 : RM 390 (unknown)
Here's a thing I notice about Cab-8.
Why does double players of yesteryears (some ... 10 years ago?) seem to prefer the Cab 8?
A former schoolmate uses a Cab 25 when he plays singles, and switches to Cab 8 when he does doubles.
And I read and seen some photos of those from 1980s badminton players who uses Cab 8.
Just curious. :)

Hmm... thanks for the info... but are you sure the carb 20 and 21 are so cheap? The sports shop where I bought my carb 8 sold the carb 20 & 21 for RM400... and I paid RM 200 for my carb 8.... don't tell me I got cheated??!!!
Another thing... if someone makes a fake Yonex won't it look exactly the same if the person is a pro conman or something??? Won't they paint it nicely, put everything exactly like the real Yonex?
BTW, I'm more of a singles player... hehehe. I didn't want another racquet... forgot what carb already cuz it was too light... I was afraid it wouldn't smash as hard...

It's either one of the two reasons :
1) Different models. As the forum had pointed out, the Long, Tour, SP, Special etc etc are all Cab 20 or Cab 21 but all have different attributes.
2) Stock clearance. With the new MP and Ti series coming to Malaysia, I doubt more people would want a Carbonex now. Thus, 40%, 50% 60% offers.
Still, the Cab 8 is a great racquet. My brother swears by it! :)

Hahaha... I tried my friend's racquet, I think TI, truth is I still prefer my Carbonex 8. I've been using Carbonex 8 all my life... let's just hope I won't be saying that in 20 years time... it'll show how much my opinion on badminton racquet changes... :)
To get cheap badminton rackets, go to Pertama Complex in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman. Racket World has good prices. The Mines or KLCC probably has much higher prices. The prices do not reflect fake but rather discounts. The MP 77 was heavily discounted by the sole agent and should be available forabout MYR250 to 270. Anything more and you are paying too much. MYR350 for the TI5 is too expensive. If I remember right, I was quoted $380 for the MP10 and MYR 300 or so for the TI10 and both are more expensive compared to the TI 10.
The original Cab 8 is a good doubles racket because it is indestructable and will survive most head crashes, unlike an MP 100 or a TI10. It is also a powerful smashing racket but it is a bit heavy.

It's wayy to far from my house... I like the heaviness... chose it becuz of that. :D I don't like too light racquets... not enough power in smashes...

good too see lotsa ppl go to racquet world at pertama. was there recently and it seems that they are promoting yang yang racquets heavily. Seems that Yang Yang personally came to the shop, had a discussion with the big boss and had them push his racquets hard. it rather dissapointing tho cause now they carry wilson, few yonex, a few pair of proace, gosen and heaps of yang yang racquets. My advise, if buy a racquet from them...bargain with them hard. i mean hard! i bought my mp55 then about 4 months back for 175RM with string and grip. Might be cheap, but i have seen them (dont ask how i know..:) ) selling them even cheaper. Bargain hard! and you might even get a mp99 for 500RM (decent price) :D

The Cab 25 doesn't have the gold logo and is not black on the butt cap. It's just like other Yonex rackets (green/white).

Anyway can someone provide some badminton store in Penang/Butterworth

Any clues? Thanks. My brother has got a carbonex 21 tour but there's no engraved serial number.
When I checked on all the stores, there's none carbonex 20 or 21, tour, special etc that has got an engraved serial number on it. From the discussions about fake rackets, the engraved serial number should be a major indication of authenticity.
For all the stores that I went, I asked about the engraved serial number but all the answers are the same : It was not implemented yet for such series. They added that proof of authenticity is from the hologram and bar code. Please comment on this.

Well we have to see the pictures of the rackets and the hologram sticker. But i reckon that its a fake. Most of the yonex rackets does have serial numbers except those lower range rackets.

Most of the yonex rackets does have serial numbers except those lower range rackets.Today I bought a cab 21 sp for MYR280=USD74 including bg66. Compare the price for cab 21 special which is only MYR179=USD47. (The sp 21 special was discussed in BF to be of a lower rating than 21 sp)
What I wanted to say is that I'm so happy that the racquet I bought has all the signs of authenticity including engraved serial numbers. Thanks so much ants. You have given lots of hints about fake racquets. We are so lucky to be more knowledgeable joining this BF.
Consider a brief conversation I had with a store owner which has been running his business for over 20 years. He was saying that cab 21 sp is cab 21 special with the exception that the shaft of cab 21 special is thicker. When I pointed to him that they are totally different racquets where the sp stands for south pacific, he tried to hide his astonishment.

My brother bought a 21sp for only MYR179 only that there is no engraved serial number. Actually there is a very faint number if you see carefully and it's far away from engraved.
You'll be suprised at how prevalent the dirty tricks the sellers are playing. I'll list some of them if anybody is interested.

If you go to ebay and search for yonex badminton racquets you will see this guy who sell NS 9000, 8000, 7000 and like AT 900 for 50 bucks, but obviously they are counterfit.
