View Full Version : who's hot and who's not
2cents 09-21-2009, 07:49 AM Lin Dan is still hot, actually, Lin Dan has been always hot.
Lee CW would be hot only when Lin Dan was hibernating.
Some people arguing that Lin Dan has been always escorted by other Chinese players to grab the title. That might be the case 1 year ago, when Chen Hong, Chen Yu still there, Bao CL and Chen Jin were in peak form. Remember that years ago, China sent just Chen Hong and Chen Yu to the Denmark open, they can defeat all the other super stars and grab the champion and runner up.
But now, Chen Hong and Chen Yu retired, Bao CL has been suffering injuries, Chen Jin has been losing his sharpness. But Lin Dan is still hot, defeated all the foreign players to win without stop.
Wang YH, when she swept all the titles in Europe, from Germany, All England, and Swissland early this year, she was no doubt the hottest that time. Most people believed that she would win the world championship. She also succeed to turn herself into Lee YB's protégé, but she has lost form since then, lost terrible in Malaysia, in Indonesia, in World championship, in Singapore, in China master,..., Even though I knew her lost her form before world championship, that's the reason I predicted Lu Lan as the winner at WC. But now I still want to list Wang YH as the most "who's not"
Who's Hot(overall): Lin Dan
Who's Not(overall): Wang YH
Who's Hot(men): Lin Dan
Who's Not(men): Chen Jin
Who's Hot(women): Wang Shixian
Who's Not(women): Wang YH
Chen Jin has lost to Wong CH, and Boonsak, both were unexpected.
Wang Shixian had a perfect run at China master, her skill at net is perfect.

i would suggest Taufik and Boosak to swap place in your list. Xie XF aleady retried from international tournaments and will retire soon after the CHN national game. so, you can delete her aswell.
limsy 09-21-2009, 09:08 AM why dont u comment other event than ms and ws?
this 2 event is so predictable:cool:
2cents 09-21-2009, 02:37 PM thank both Alan Y and limsy. It seems that both of you basically agree with what I said.
I only ranked singles. Several reasons:
1) Even few top single players skipped this China master. Only top tens were: Taufik (MS 4), Sony (MS 6), and Nehwal (WS 8). So this China master is a very high competitive tournament in singles both men and ladies. For doubles, there were about 20 top tens not there. therefore, there is not enough data to support who's hot and who's not. I even cannot remember who won the doubles at WC
2) Singles are more interested than doubles, at least for me. Especially, you cannot draw conclusion that one of the guy from a pair is hot or not. that's the same reason that all super stars are singles player, you cannot expect a super star who is a double player.
2cents 09-21-2009, 03:37 PM Comparing China master and Japan open. Assuming wr #1 (Lee CW) 10 points, #2 Chen J 9 points,.. Wang CH (#10 1 point). and assume
Competitive index= (total points of top ten players)/55 *100%
1) Men's singles:
.....CM: missing Taufik and Sony. Competitive index=78%
.....JO: missing Chen Jin and Lin Dan. Competitive index=72%
2) Ladies' singles:
.....CM: missing nehwal. Competitive index=95%
.....JO: missing Lu L, XieX, Wang Chen Competitive index=76%
3) Men's doubles:
.....CM: missing a lot. Competitive index=small%
.....JO: missing CHN and Lee YD Competitive index=not big%
4) Ladies' doubles:
.....CM: missing a lot. Competitive index=small%
.....JO: missing strong CHN pairs Competitive index=not big%
5) Mixed doubles:
.....CM: missing a lot. Competitive index=small%
.....JO: missing CHN and Lee YD Competitive index=not big%
Although Lin Dan, Cai Yun/Fu HF, Yu Yang/Du Jing, Lu Lan, Wang SX, Wang Xin... are all ranked low, they are obviously the best, at least one of few the best. Unfortunately those lower ranked, but extremely powerful players will all skip the Japan open. Therefore, the prestige Japan open cannot represent world level competition. Neither can China master doubles. Anyhow, only the China master singles, both men and ladies should be world level competition in these 2 super series. What a pity.
madbad 09-21-2009, 07:11 PM Wang Shixian is hot in more ways than one ;):p

hottie has to have big boobs... Wang SX is a cuttie at most.

So no badminton players are hot then

Have to disagree with you on this point. Korea's XD and MD player Lee Yong Dae is definitely considered the star of both his pairings.
I think widely considered as an exceptional star player who would enjoy even more success with more consistent partners.

lol, naughty. but badminton babes is not like tennis babes:p look a serena williams for example:D:D

the racket is also very high 'tension':D
gcwse 09-23-2009, 10:17 AM Though Wang is not hot, she is still the best player.
Her way of playing is on the top of the world! Just like men skill!!
POWER! SPEED!
As long as she attends enough match, she will own good mentality!
Also, Wang SX' skill is pretty good!
Wang YH was beaten by her patience and perfect skill!
Maybe she can attend London Olympic.
Chinese women players are all so good that they all have the chance to enter for Olympic games!;););)
2cents 09-23-2009, 11:27 AM "who's hot and who's not" is just a phrase for listing the best and worst current forms for badminton players. The hot here is not a sexual attrative index.
Before admitted in the first squad of China nation team, Wang YH had won all the way from China world cup, Japan open, Gemany open, All England, Swiss.... looked like invincible pretty much. But during that time, Lee YB always claimed that Wang YH was not good enough.
Finally Wang YH got into the 1st squad, became Lee YB's protege. After that, Wang YH herself claimed that she's fundamentally better than before. She said, even she won before but didn't know why and how she won. She has learnt from Lee YB that she can control the match now, would won whenever she wants to.
But the fact is she cannot win anymore. She lost badly and early at Singapore open, Indon open, World champiship, China master,... That's the reason I don't think she's hot. It has nothing to do with her body curvature.
It is true that China women have tremendous depth. Wang Xin is an example. There are many players like Wang Xin in each provincial teams with no chance to play international. Normally, players like Wang Xin will play only inside China, but her life changed by accidents. She's the only player promoted directly from provincial team to the national team. All these are simply because she's the friend of coach Zhang Ning.
After her debut at Malaysia open, Wang Xin has beaten all foreign players, including Wong MC, Nehlwal, Tina Rasmussen.... She has a perfect record, never lost to any foreigners, actually.
There is not just 1 Wang Xin, there are plenty of Wang Xin. Even when Zhang Ning and Xie XF were in their peak form, they both lost in the first round of the last national games to unknowns.
Therefore, Olympics can only tell you who's the best in badly selected 32 people. It doesn't have any clue who's the best in the world.

what a prediction! so accurate on MS part. Without LD, CJ and LCW's gone, Taufik and Bao come out strong! Some people suggested me to swap Taufik and Boonsak..., and most people think Taufik is not good as before. But I think differently.
I think Taufik even stronger than 2 years ago. Even though he did won Olympics and WC, but he had been defeated easily in early rounds by anyone at that time. In the so called "Taufik peak time", he was thought good only because of his big mouth, arrogant attitude and recklessness. Even he claimed he could win at time as he wanted to, but most case he simply didn't want pass the early rounds.
But now, look at Taufik again, especially after became his own boss, managed everything himself instead of PBSI, his performance has been much more stable than before, he's attitude has changed also. He's really becoming a pro.
It's always being difficult for TH wining outside Indonesia before, he seldom won a match in 3 games. He was a IBF event specialist, not a true pro in his "peak time", because what he won, OG and WC, were IBF event and small scaled for selected players. He has not won any open tournament in Europe yet.
But now, everything has changed, he's becoming a better person, his performance are much more stable, he can win anywhere without geographic limitation, even his ranking position is much higher than that in his "peak time". Today, he's ready to win his first super series title! Good for him.
Wang YH was a little bit underrated. Simon, NTM should be included in the list. Here is the updated power ranking in the mid of JO:
MS:
(1) Lin Dan
(2) Lee CW
(3) Chen Jin, Taufik, Bao CL
(6) Sony, Simon, NTM
(9) Park, Gade, Boonsak, ...
WS:
(1) Lu Lan, Wang Shixian
(3) Wang Xin, Wang YiHan, Wang Lin
(6) Xie XF, Zhou Mi, Jiang YJ, Tine Rasmussen,...
Athelete1234 09-26-2009, 03:50 PM IMO, Taufik is better than last year, but not 2007. Even though he wasn't winning in 2007, he was still defeating LCW or being a severe threat (2007 China Masters for example, 2007 Japan Open)...2008 he was just awful until after the olympics where he did amazingly in the 2008 french open.
2cents 09-26-2009, 11:30 PM just right after defeating NTM in the semin, but before the other semi between Simon and Taufik, Bao CL was asked by journalists whom he like to play in the final?
Bao CL said, he would like to play Taufik, because it's much more enjoyable playing with Taufik every time before.
When I wrote "who's hot, who's not" after China master, I almost listed Bao CL as the most "who's not". Both Bao CL and Wang YH have played under par for quite long time until this Japan open.
here's updated power ranking:
MS:
(1) Lin Dan
(2) Lee CW
(3) Bao CL
(4) Chen Jin
(5) Taufik,
(6) Sony
(7) Park, Gade, Boonsak, Simon, NTM...
WS:
(1) Lu Lan, Wang YiHan, Wang Shixian
(4) Wang Xin, Wang Lin
(6) Xie XF, Zhou Mi, Jiang YJ, Tine Rasmussen,...
Wang YiHan now has turned herself from "not" to "hot"!
hezudao 09-27-2009, 12:12 AM hottie has to have big boobs... Wang SX is a cuttie at most.
