..for last yr's SS Masters Final, they didn't announce any confirmation til end of October/early November...It was chaos, what with CHN's team pulling out...
Looks like this yr is going to be deja blue all over again; yay or nay, it'll be a last minute confirmation and most likely no presence of CHN's squad, once again..:o

Oh, crap. I think i am going for a trip with friends at the moment.
Will re-schedule that, i guess. Time is on my side. ;)

And, wait, are they really going to held that in Gong BAdak's indoor stadium?
It's located next to the collapsed Sultan Mizan Stadium!
Or, there's another arena near both stadiums, also being used during SUKMA.
For the previous National Grand Prix and other Badminton Tournaments, it was held in another Stadium.

Ignore the first pic, it was taken back in 2008 and the main stadium is not as fine as before. haha.

..well, almost. Except for the location, just like last yr, this yr's SS Master Final was announced late in November.
The big question is, will CHN attend the tournament this yr? Or will they shun it, once again, like last yr?..

Oh, drifit, don't be. :p

I still think the previous stadium is better. because the hotels and places to stay are very close to the stadium where the tournament took place. You can even walk.

But hey, it's only 15 mins or less. Don't worry.

And i agree Pemuda should know better because he, (i think) sometimes went to Terengganu (K.T) as "tourist", while i am a permanent resident here.

It's good that a venue has been arranged/organised earlier for this year, 2009. :):):)

Let's hope that it won't be like 2008, with so many changes of venues, or like 2007, when the SS Masters Finals did not get to be staged.

Here is another article (from NST): http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/articles/39mastats-2/Article/index_html

..nothing much different for this yr's edition, except the location and date.
Last yr, they didn't announce anything til the same time period (end of Oct./early Nov.). For sure, they didn't "arranged/organised earlier for this year, 2009". If they had, this would've been announced in April or June or August.

Ceh, Agung is King-lah. Sultan is lower than King.

From wiki.answers.com

The King of Malaysia, or more commonly known as the "Yang di-Pertuan Agong" is rotated every 5 years among 9 Rulers from the Malay states. The current Yang di-Pertuan Agong is Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, the Sultan of Terengganu.

eaglehelang is right, at least limsy and I learned something new here.

Should be held in KL and at least I can upload some action here.

anyone, now with the last 2 SS held in HKG and CHN........
any prediction who will be qualified to the SS final ??
based on the Super Series rank, a very close gap between point rank 6/7/8 ... so still possible for top 10 player to get into finale...

I do not think quota rule is fair for some country. Hope in the future this rule will eliminated.

As we can see in WTA championship, they do not make any barrier to country with lot of good tennis players like Russia

by the way, is it right that they need to compete in minimal 8 super series to qualify at SS final?

thank you

Super Series Finals will come with it's own Super Ticket Prices.

Much more expensive than the World Championships in KL and Hyderabad.

Last year, they even went on a session-based ticketing system instead of daily tickets.

Now, let me surprise you more.
My latest visit ( two days ago). They haven't yet fully clean up the mess. Not after months since the day it had collapsed!
So, yes. i wonder if that's really the decision of the authorities, to held a tournament within a month. And if you did viewed the pic, you could see that it is really next to the collapsed stadium.

Super Series Finals will come with it's own Super Ticket Prices.

Much more expensive than the World Championships in KL and Hyderabad.

Last year, they even went on a session-based ticketing system instead of daily tickets.
agree..the tickets price will be much more 'beautiful':p

but actually this tournament can be the "warming up" tournament before Sea Games..
Sea Games mah just send the back up players so our youngsters can gain more experience in multi event whatever the result is, just like what MAS badminton did on the last Seagames although didnt get any medal. INA elite player shouldn't focus on Sea Games but Asian games or olympic.....

koo_fan...... One thing for sure; the host city for this 2009 Super Series Masters Finals has not been finalised.

Don't see how to believe the news media telling us about which city will be hosting it. The anouncement from BWF was:

"The Badminton World Federation (BWF) is pleased to announce that Malaysia will once again host the BWF World Super Series Masters Finals from 2nd to 6th December 2009".

I do not think there is a direct flight from USA to Kuala Terengganu because KT is a small town. KL to KT may take you 5 to 6 hours by road.

Yes, Malaysian drive on the left side of the road because the cars are right hand drive, same as the British. But if the SS finals are held in JB, then you can fly directly to Singapore and hop into JB.

It's ady decided during the final day of WJC by BWF vice-chairperson Mr. Paisan whereby SS Masters Final 2009 will be held at Terengganu. Even the headline is ady stated very clearly.

Unless the stadium have critical problems at the last minute b4 competition (as what had happened to Terengganu newly built stadium for SUKMA = collapsed), else there will no plan change. :)

thanks for the info ..... a local person would really help a lot since they would know the ins-and-outs .... but i'm just curious as to why krizlid98 mentioned that JB isn't a safe place .... any idea? .... i just want to get back in one-piece ... :D

also, is a visa needed to enter singapore or malaysia if one is staying for 1-2 weeks only?? thanks again.
- JB should be a safe place. Just don't go & travel around all decked out with fancy jewelries.
- Language could be a bit of an issue. But the hotel personnel should be able to assist you. Overall, M'sians and S'poreans should be able to communicate with you. Do you speak English only? or other language as well, such as cantonese or mandarin?
- As for U.S. citizen (i assume you are a U.S. citizen) needing a visa to enter, no, you don't need a visa to enter M'sia and/or S'pore. I've traveled to both countries before and all i did was flash my U.S. passport to the custom gentlemen and gentlewomen, and they just stamped & passed me through. I believe the current time frame of stay for a foreign visitor is 90 max. days for both S'pore & M'sia.
Btw, do spend a couple of days in S'pore, if you have time.:)

This year SS finals, Indonesia players got the effect of the absurds "only two players" per country rules.

We can have 3 MS players and probably 3 XD pairs. (depend on how well Hendra/Vita results in China Open)

But if China players skip this events and Ina players also skip this for SEA games, this event will be very dull.

Zhou Mi and wang Cehnare not going either....focusing on East Asian games
..very interesting. I guess the prize cheque being offered is no longer enticing for them, eh??..Or is it simply because they are playing to represent their national squad?..

wrong timing once again for this ss final to be in the end of the year.
..i think it's a matter of too much events being squeezed in or happening in this period of the yr. Last yr, imo, was a pretty good schedule to have all of the top players/pairs compete, as there weren't too much events going on. Next yr could be as tough as the Asian Games will be held in November (if that's the case, then those regular SS tourneys which are held in Nov. could have quite a few absentees). And who knows what other events will occur during that time & into December.

.
Somehow, BWF events are always considered less important than Regional Games by most National Associations
.
..Important BWF events such as the Olympics, World Championships, All England will most likely, if not always, be considered more important than Regional Games. But since this is an invitation event (non BWF sanctioned), perhaps the significance or priority is not there despite the big prize money being offered.

Not quite an impressive list, though :p
For the next editions (if there's any), maybe BWF should consider to re-schedule, change some rules, increase the $$$ prizes, provide some WR pts, and change this event into bwf-sanctioned event
So that every players/baddy association must think twice before easily skipped this event

because PBSI priority is the sea games. and not the ss final.

Indonesia certainly has the biggest chance winning the SEA games, the only strong opponent is Malaysia. Should be better give SS Final more priority which has more countries competing rather easy win (of course after defeating Malaysia). :p

Wow, this is a weak WS field.

And look who's managed to sneak into the MD draw: the new yoyos of badminton, the Fuzzies (or is it simply Yo because they've been on a headlong down slide)

But Indonesia also depend on badminton to win gold medals. And sorry to said that maybe in men team event, Indonesia and Malaysia are the strongest ones, but not very clear in women event.

Indonesia and Malaysia are fav in women team event but Singapore and Thailand can sneak some suprise if they did not careful.

And there are also 5 individual events.

Indonesia had chance to win all 7 golds. Not to mention all malaysia best players will play here and maybe will be a little tired when they play Sea Games.

I'm backing Thailand to upset the applecart in the Women's Team event. They have 3 good WS players and 1 good WD pair. Singapore could also be a spoiler. MAS will be very lucky to win it. INA starts as the favourites

Yeah, so weak line-up like a GP tourney...So Pi Hongyan will be replaced by Judith Meulendijks (NED).

Without PHY , the WS is at the very worst . Its more like a GOld event than a year end event.

Lu Lan and Saina are the most fav to win this category. Though Yao Jie can be a dark horse here.

I thought LHJ & LKW are no longer continuing their WD partnership o.O but their names are entered under WD...Not only them, as was pointed out here (http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1313498&postcount=236). But even more changes (http://www.badzine.info/index.php/news/newsflash/61-newsflash/2237-ss-finals-masters-minus-2-more-kims-and-lees.html) have affected this field.

I notice Vision1's schedule at Indovision website, LIVE program of 2009 SS Masters Finals will be started tomorrow, 2nd December 2009 (16.00 - 21.00 WIB).
