View Full Version : tape the outside of the grommets?!

I've been contemplating if you put a small piece of electrical tape/ finishing tape for your grip around the outside of the racket if that will provide a more "aero" design for the racket. I could only imagine there is a lot of turbulence created by the grommet holes and covering them up with tape could provide a unobtrusive skin to allow the racket to cut through the air more fluidly. I have a tournament coming up, but i'll be trying this after its over. Has anyone tried this? Any opinions?

One reason i think this could work is there is a much different feel from the two, and to me, it seems like there is a lot of drag when I swing a racket without strings. Try to swing a racket and feel the difference between a strung and unstrung racket. whats the difference?

Surface area of the strings has a bigger impact than turbulence caused by the strings on the outside of the racket, also the strings are normally sunk somewhat into the frame.

If you think there's a difference with the tape, its 99% psychological.

Get a racket with aerodynamic frame if you don want to feel the drag. For example Victor Bravesword 09. Try swinging it with another racket to compare. You will hear a different sound

I agree, I don't think it will make any difference. Try a more aerodynamic racket (various victor models or even a Yonex Arc Z Slash).
