Carola Bott had a tough match last night, Thursday 15-Oct-2009, defeating Linda Zechiri (Seeded 6) with scores of 17-21, 21-19, 21-16.
And for today, Carola is scheduled for the day session. And she is meeting Larisa Griga (Seeded 3). Looks like Carola might be too tired for today's match.
Anyway, we wish Carola all the best.
.
CLELY 10-16-2009, 09:08 AM Both Carola and Olga enter semifinal...and likely to meet home players, Judith and Yao Jie?!

Thankfully she won today....
Vaido 10-16-2009, 09:31 AM Carola looked today much better:)
Good fighting spirit, not so many mistekes by herself and of course she had more supporters beside the court;)
So we can see her tomorrow again:)
Anybody knows if the semis or finals are shown on TV somwhere also?
robin7 10-16-2009, 09:45 AM Wong Choong Hann is worrying...
Vaido 10-16-2009, 09:53 AM Rajiv doing a good game:-)
george@chongwei 10-16-2009, 01:04 PM is there any where i can watch live now?
Vaido 10-16-2009, 04:33 PM is there any where i can watch live now?
later today you can see from bwin.com the semis...
but you had to register and make the deposit in amount of 10 euros...:(
on better side is that they have often 2 cameras in European badminton competitions (in other sports also:-)... the stream is mostly very good, microphone is behind the umpire;) (so you can hear the converstions between games or coaches instructions sometimes:-) but the video box is rather small and cannot be zoomed to full screen:(
for myself I had got a lot of fun for that money so i don't complain;)

There goes Choong Hann :(

habsq 10-17-2009, 04:10 PM Just came back from Dutch Open. A little bit disappointed with Dicky's performance and Ikeda/Shiota loss, but enjoyed Yao Jie vs Konon, Judith vs Bott, and the Russia/Bulgaria vs Germany WD...

Both home players, Judith and Yao Jie, defeated Carola and Olga at the Semi-Finals.
At the Finals, Chetan Anand is the only player from Asia left standing to battle on.

He cleaned up in europe last year/last few years(?), probably not all GP's but at least Bitburger 2008 was one.
Other "news" I've picked up is Yonex Japan will be sponsoring the dutch federation for the next 7(!) years bringing in a comparatively pitiful sum of 3.2 million euro. (pitiful compared to football shirt sponsorship deals, let alone equipment deals). A similar deal in structure to Malaysia, Indonesia and Japan requiring all national team and junior national team members to wear Yonex equipment. Well I'm not sure if those other countries have that requirement but I heard that's in the dutch deal, leading to possible/probable conflict since at least three members of the national team have other deals.
Also many Indian players were wearing Li-Ning (Anand, Bhat, Sridhar ... more?) but not all like Kashyap Parupalli, Sanave Thomas and partner Rupesh Kumar (all Yonex), I think Marc Zwiebler was using the ArcSaber Z-Slash and I'm surprised "everyone's" is suprised by Olga Konon's success. What a difference a different flag makes? Some people actually think she's polish :p. The other young talent Kasper Ipsen was actually quite dissapointingly boring in style. A no frills hard worker whom probably bored Peter Gade to death by running down every single shot when he became the first dane in who knows how many years to beat him a while back ;).

Hi demolidor,
Please give us more info about Olga Konon.
Yes, she has done quite well at the 2009 Dutch Open GP. However, there is still little known about her.
.
Other Chris coming through with the links as always http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif. The badzine link is especially usefull (http://www.badzine.info/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1202:mark-p&catid=16:playersspotlight&Itemid=56). I'm not exactly sure why she chose Poland but reading the article I guess it's the closest to home. I think she left the belarussian team/federation because they messed up her entry more than once, failing to submit the paperwork in time to compete in certain tournaments. I think one was the German Open in 200x (8?) where she already arrived at the tournament only to find out her federation hadn't sent in the paperwork. Perhaps there was some waiting period after the switch before she could compete again, perhaps coupled with an injury, dropping her ranking so much she even has to qualify for regular GP tournaments (Dutch Open 2009 qualify, 2008 seeded 5th).
3.2 million Euros in 7 years is indeed a very pitiful amount  Downright monopoly by Yonex and even INA is trying to break free of Yonex. Well, money was getting tight I heard so they really didn't have much choice. Especially in a time when sponsors are hard to come by. They seem to be pleased so whatever they used to get was either even less or something similar. €500.000 a year + free equipment(?) for all teams ...
Just now reading the website of the brother of the federation's president: turns out there are 39 players who are not sponsored by Yonex counting the ones in the youth team, that will be more or less forced to switch or pay their own cost (entry fees, travel etc.). To be continued ... :D.
