2009 French Badminton Open - Friday October 30 (Quarter-Finals)
Today, I guess most of us would be paying attention to Olga Konon, the rising star from the West. Olga will be meeting Pi Hongyan from France.
Yesterday, Olga defeated Wang Shixian, a rising star from China.
Results:

dylle 10-29-2009, 05:36 PM There are so many great mathces tomorrow! Many of the mathces can go either way.
Not an easy round for you PAW'ers.
Of course cheering on Olga tommorow, but she has played many matches - maybe the rising star is a bit tired?
As a dane I'm looking forward to see Peter Gade against Bao Chunlai. I think, if he has the luck, that he can win this one!
Destricto_Ense 10-29-2009, 05:59 PM 6pm, TH vs CL. *takes note*

picachu01 10-29-2009, 08:04 PM Well, time in Paris is different from countries in Asia. From QF matches, it will be started at 4.00pm (about 10.00pm in Asia and some matches start at midnight), so we are very difficult to watch them... what a pity
Destricto_Ense 10-29-2009, 08:20 PM Good point. *renotes match as 5pm*
badMania 10-30-2009, 12:49 AM MS QF
Chen Long vs Taufik Hidayat [4] -- Chen Long has lost some matches which he should have won lately. Let's see if Taufik can capitalise on this.
MD QF
Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan [1] vs Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif [5] -- I hope Kido/Hendra can progress to at least SF.
Bona Septano/Mohd Ahsan vs Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen [3] -- it will be a progress if Bona/Ahsan can beat Boe/Moe.
WS QF
Adriyanti Firdasari vs Yao Jie -- both players are unseeded. Firda might have a slight edge.
WD QF
Lena Frier-Kristensen/Kamilla Rytter-Juhl [4] vs Nitya Krishinda Maheswari/Greysia Polii [8] -- let's see if Nitya/Grace can spring another surprise.
XD QF
Kristoff Hopp/Anastasia Russkikh vs Hendra A. Gunawan/Vita Marissa [7] -- AG/Vita should progress to the SF.
V. Diju/Jwala Gutta [6] vs Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir [2] -- ditto for Nova/Butet. This could be Nova/Butet's last chance for a title.
danielwong 10-30-2009, 01:15 AM Prediction for my countrymen:
XD QF
KKK/WPT vs TJM/ZYW [8] --A match that can go either way....CHN is considered a newly forged pair but always look dangerous.....if KKK/WPT can blend well....upset might happen
MD QF
Fuzzy [5] vs MK/HS [1]
too bad Fuzzy is not the same pair that we are proud of...inconsistent being the main reason...slim chance to win....just hope upset might happened as MK/HS is unpredictable sometimes...
KKK/TBH [2] vs NR/AC [7]
on paper KKK/TBH should win...but they tend to lost to lower rank pair....furthermore they lost to the same pair during SO...i predict 50-50...
WD QF
WPT/CEH [1] vs MJ/WXL [5]
unfortunately we knew that the 1st seed will not win this....no need further comment...
hope for miracle....
koo_fan 10-30-2009, 01:30 AM I guess they have listened to my complaints. :p
kkk/tbh's game is getting earlier than yesterday. great great.
kuwichert 10-30-2009, 02:18 AM don't forget Olga!!! playing the Lady on her 'second home soil' might not be an easy task, but still good chances since she has nothing to loose:eek:
Nath playing KKK - lets see what happens:confused:
Saina needs - and also deserves:eek: - our full support! She might be the force to break the wall - if Olga can't do it:D
Taufik - just don't fool around - 2 other hard matches're waiting for you:eek:

SJJ & TJM vs. GZD & XC
PP & ZYW vs. DJ & YY
MA & BS vs. MB & CM

ctjcad 10-30-2009, 02:51 AM ..the very 1st post above for the schedule. Both of the "doozer" matches, unfortunately, will fall on Court 2.
kuwichert 10-30-2009, 03:16 AM ..the very 1st post above for the schedule. Both of the "doozer" matches, unfortunately, will fall on Court 2.
thought based on your results of investigations you can set up the 'nap schedule' for us:confused:
why 'unfortunately' - is court 2 the court for live stream?
bet365 was switching courts yesterday- is it the same as that 'french open live stream page' is doing, or is it different cam? just found that french open page this morning:eek:
Does anybody know whether they will broadcast live webstream until the end on Sunday, or will they stop earlier as the Dans did:mad:
did anybody check chinese tv channels? that's what we 'out of Astro area' can watch also - if there is no live stream we need that:rolleyes: I still can not read chinese - so no chance for me to check schedule for chinese sports channels since they do have schedules only in chinese availabel
ctjcad 10-30-2009, 03:23 AM - Last week's Denmark Open livestream, was a disaster; at least for the U.S. region. So, i thought it ain't getting any better this week.
- Sure enough, no livestream for this French Open. bet365 is also not available for the U.S. region.
- There are more CHN players in this tourney, so there should be a Chinese based channel broadcasting the matches (at last from SF til Finals). But, no confirmation yet on which channel is broadcasting.
..it's okay, if can't watch live or delay, there are always the recorded videos..

freelast 10-30-2009, 11:08 AM i think LD tends to play controling until reach 15 point. If he loses 15 points, then he begins to smash. Let's see if i'm right.

badMania 10-30-2009, 11:18 AM Nova Widianto/Liliyana Natsir also progress to the SF after they survived a 3-setter match against V. Diju/Jwala Gutta.
freelast 10-30-2009, 11:19 AM wow..its 19 al now..unbelievable!
nothing unbelievable  Lin Dan now changed his strategy, he used to smash from the begining. That was the reason he won easily before, now he likes to play controling, combined with different shots, drops, long, short, left, right, if that works, he will not smash. If that doesn't work, he will use his smash after losing 15 points. Of course, that sometime not working well if unforced errors are committed.
george@chongwei 10-30-2009, 11:22 AM nothing unbelievable  Lin Dan now changed his strategy, he used to smash from the begining. yep, so based on your theory, it is up to him whether to win or lose a match?:D
winzerer 10-30-2009, 11:24 AM JP run out of gas
ye333 10-30-2009, 11:25 AM Unfortunately that's what many people believe nowadays...
For some opponents, LD decides to start smashing after losing 10 points; For some others, after losing 15 points; For Persson today, after losing 19 points; For a few strong opponents, LD may decide to start smashing after losing one game. Yep. It's all up to LD. :D:D
yep, so based on your theory, it is up to him whether to win or lose a match?:D
ye333 10-30-2009, 11:26 AM Usually LD would up the pace at the beginning of the 2nd game, regardless of the outcome of the 1st.
JP run out of gas
press100 10-30-2009, 11:27 AM LD won again...when is he gonna retire? getting soo booring...lol
After winning second Olympic Gold medal in London 2012...;)
george@chongwei 10-30-2009, 11:30 AM yao jie is leading now..looks like something is really fishy though:p
freelast 10-30-2009, 11:30 AM yep, so based on your theory, it is up to him whether to win or lose a match?:D
no. that's a misunderstanding. I don't have the theory which Taufik invented "he always wins if he wants to".
I think LD always wants to win. but he uses different strategy now. If you noticed, you should find that LD has improved a lot in front court skills, net technologies and overall abilities. That's the reason he changed his strategy.
If he had used this current strategy a couple years ago. It would not have worked. Simply because that time, he's not that super at the net, he has to smash all the way to win.
Now, with better skills, he wants to save energy and also reserved his smash as sudden weapon to kill his opponent, so no matter what strategy he is using, I believe he always want to win.
:D
kharissmiley 10-30-2009, 11:33 AM Ayo Firda..Semangat...!!
george@chongwei 10-30-2009, 11:33 AM I think he badly wants to win the french open this time:)
badadum 10-30-2009, 11:34 AM Firda might not have much left for 3rd game.....
george@chongwei 10-30-2009, 11:34 AM yao jie game point now.
george@chongwei 10-30-2009, 11:35 AM meanwhile..hhb/yy leading 18-16 now:p
kharissmiley 10-30-2009, 11:35 AM Go Firda...!! Keep Fighting..Take the 3rd game...!!
**KZ** 10-30-2009, 11:36 AM good game by persson...though LD doesn't seem to be feeling like playing today....
ye333 10-30-2009, 11:37 AM He changed his strategy because he could not "smash from the start to the end" game after game anymore. So he has to use his smashes much more cleverly these days. This change actually started in 2005.
no. that's a misunderstanding.
:D
ye333 10-30-2009, 11:38 AM There is TV broadcast? :confused::confused:
good game by persson...though LD doesn't seem to be feeling like playing today....
george@chongwei 10-30-2009, 11:38 AM finally lin dan took the game in 2 sets.
Yao jie manage to force the game to rubber set.
HHB/YY won the 1st set 21-17;)

It is better for him to outplay and exhaust his hopeless opponents first before slaughtering them.
He realised this more after 07, where his netplay began to improve and others began to have no chance.
Very smart and conserves energy unlike others like LCW who will run out of gas very soon, if not already beginning to self-combust.
volcom 10-30-2009, 11:42 AM yep, so based on your theory, it is up to him whether to win or lose a match?:D
Against lower tier opponents absolutely.
ye333 10-30-2009, 11:47 AM LCW, when playing lesser opponents, uses the same strategy.
Others usually have many chances to smash, but the problem is their smash cannot penetrate LD/LCW's defence.

Others usually have many chances to smash, but the problem is their smash cannot penetrate LD/LCW's defence.
Against lesser players, LCW just all out pummells them with his speed and smash, which he cannot apply to same tier players.
You don't usually see LD with similar scorelines against lesser players like LCW who gets like 21-5 whilst LD gets 21-14 etc.
freelast 10-30-2009, 11:54 AM i think LD tends to play controling until reach 15 point. If he loses 15 points, then he begins to smash. Let's see if i'm right.
I just checked the stats, LD only had 2 successful smashes in the 1st game, while got 10 smash winner after that.
**KZ** 10-30-2009, 11:54 AM yao jie seems to be out of form for a long time....but she did well today
freelast 10-30-2009, 11:55 AM what about the other live scores?
KidSet should be playing with the fuzzy pair now...
etudiant 10-30-2009, 11:56 AM damn.....Firda's syndrome........after beating higher ranked and lost immediately in the next round to the lesser ranked opponents.........what a fall down
simonlovers 10-30-2009, 11:56 AM Yao Jie beat Firdasari..
if other player, get a lot of confidence after beat seeded player
no more suprise if she will be like this next time..
she never learn...
freelast 10-30-2009, 12:01 PM yao jie seems to be out of form for a long time....but she did well today
training is important. I think Yao Jie was busy with her wedding or other stuff for a while, now she's back in normal training.
Thinking about her age also. She's 4.5 years older than Xie Xinfang.
badadum 10-30-2009, 12:05 PM Pretty fast game by MK/HS...closing 1st set 21-11 in 9m.
tommy_bun 10-30-2009, 12:05 PM Looking at Firda's performance..I think I have to rethink if I want to paw her...Its the second time after beating top player then playing under performance
freelast 10-30-2009, 12:05 PM now, it's 2 INA vs 2 CHN in the XD semis, any predictions, please?
the XD is the most unpredictable event in badminton...
bradja23 10-30-2009, 12:06 PM Jie Yao is a match stealer. Always trailing behind, no strong shots, not smashing a lot, but so hard to beat.
Very experienced and frustrating player...
kuwichert 10-30-2009, 12:07 PM ok folks, Taufik time now!
let's cheer the one and only now :D:D:D
freelast 10-30-2009, 12:07 PM Looking at Firda's performance..I think I have to rethink if I want to paw her...Its the second time after beating top player then playing under performance
now you figure out the pattern, so next time, paw her in the first match, if she wins a top player, then give up her immediately.

of course I would like to be all Ina final.........but looking at current condition, I'm not so sure.....its good enough to have 1 pair in final.....
badMania 10-30-2009, 12:09 PM Well, it's expected for Firda. Once the match lasted 3 sets, it's unlikely she will win, esp if the opponent can still keep the pace.
etudiant 10-30-2009, 12:09 PM Jie Yao is a match stealer. Always trailing behind, no strong shots, not smashing a lot, but so hard to beat.

badMania 10-30-2009, 12:12 PM A better performance from Fuzzy in the second-set.

badMania 10-30-2009, 12:14 PM of course I would like to be all Ina final.........but looking at current condition, I'm not so sure.....its good enough to have 1 pair in final.....
We might not even have an INA rep in the Final, given Nova/Butet's vulnerability and AG/Vita's stage fright during crucial moments.
kuwichert 10-30-2009, 12:14 PM A better performance from Fuzzy in the second-set.
but for short time only:mad:

badMania 10-30-2009, 12:16 PM Fuzzy manages to get level the scores to 10-10, only to find Kido/Hendra surging ahead yet again to 18 in no time. Now, they manage to close the gap back to 2 pts...17-19.
tommy_bun 10-30-2009, 12:16 PM Cmon 2 Chens........

ye333 10-30-2009, 12:17 PM That's not true. Just watch LCW vs CL (where he won 21:16, 21:9). Most of the times LCW is simply using his defence to frustrate CL.

Some players just never learn from their defeats. Firda and Rian/Yoke are among those.

Maybe CJ was just amusing in the first set. But it would be a terrific revenge for Yun Hu.
freelast 10-30-2009, 12:25 PM Xu HW, Yao Jie, Pi Hong Yan... were not in the national team when they were in China, and Pi once was in the junior team. The reason were the same, they didn't have powerful smashes. Hundreds of players like them in China retired young with nothing.
But they managed to migrate to the other countries. After several tideous and frastrating years, they begin to shine at world badminton circle even though they had been quite old by that time.
so were Wang Chen and Zhou Mi, the differences here is that both Wang Chen and Zhou Mi were in the national team before.
kuwichert 10-30-2009, 12:26 PM Hu's doing well and Taufik also starts playing now, hopefully he stops fooling around!

I predicted yesterday that CJ vs HY would not be easy, even though LD just beat HY easily at the national games.
freelast 10-30-2009, 12:33 PM what do you wanna tell us:confused:
it's clear those Chinese players in Europe are not good at smashing, but hard to beat, therefore, they are all match stealers. We are talking about match stealers. :D
