How can you make your grip last for a long time? I used one for 2 months and then I had to change it cause it was worn out.
Joanne,
Try different brands of overgrips. Some last a long time while others fall apart in weeks. I find that Gamma lasts a lot time. Some brands that I have tried do not last very long. Also, it depends on the material and some of the very soft grips do not seem to last.
Ron
what kind of grip are you talking about? materials?
Gamma grips seem to be made of some soft rubber and it seems to last. Tournagrip seems to be made of some synthetic rubber/fiber stuff and it does not last very long. Gamma grip is also more comfortable but slightly more expensive.

Are you talking about overgrips or normal replacement grips? I doubt you're talking about towel grips here.
And also, how often do you play each week?
If you've been playing regularly, 2 months is a pretty long time for an overgrip (if it is). Maybe try wearing a wrist band will help.

Hi... i play 3x to 4x a week and towel grips last me around 3 wks. (but it feels yucky on the 3rd week :p ) the rubber replacement grips last a bit longer around 6 weeks, I have tried Falken and Gosen but they get slippery after a game. It all depends if you get sweaty palms =)

Your're right Baddie. If you have sweaty palms, your grip usually don't last as long. I changed my grip about once every 3 weeks and I play twice a week.
Why would you want your grip to last long anyways? It is not as if they only last you for 1 week or so. I rather play with a nice grippy grip than to save a couple of bucks for another few more weeks and play badly.

I can't change my grip every month, I'm not that free. Anyway, I juz got a new Pacific grip, very good. I found Karakal grip terrible, wore out so fast! I play twice a week, 2 hours.

Joanne, I'm not sure what exactly you meant by "...not that free." It doesn't take long to change a grip. Maybe a min or two?

maybe she means cash strapped..
My palms do not sweat and consequently, my grips can last months and even years. I had a grip that was on my racket for more than 10 years because I had stopped playing for more than 10 years. The grip had disintegrated and was getting my hands blue the first time I used that racket after 10 years; I had to take out the grip immediately -- LOL.
People with sweaty palms need to change the grip often while those with dry palms can get by changing their grips every few months (or even years).
Joanne, try to get a brand that gives you good feeling and lasts a reasonably long time. Once you get a good brand, stay with it.

Sorry Ron. I had to disagree with you on one subject here. I simply cannot understand how one can stay with the same grip for years??? Not even over 6 months if you play a couple of times a week. Even if you don't have a sweaty palm, you can still wear out the grip.
If you play a lot, most grips wear down but some brands can last months and maybe more than a year. If you don't use the racket at all, the grip can stay on the racket for more than 10 years (of course the grip is unusable, but that is another story :)).

i think i've found the perfect grip. And I meant that I'm only 11, I need someone to bring me to a place to change the grip.
Nice to see Joanne at 11 being able to try out new grips with good rackets. Joanne, hope your parents will take you to the sport shops so you can buy a few extra grips to stock up and so you need not have to buy a new grip everytime the old grip wears out. You will need to find one you like first that is worth stocking up on. Have fun playing badminton and become a world champion in 10 years :).
I remember when I was young and had no money to buy grips (only towel grips existed back then) or even good rackets. We (the group I was playing with) had to find cheap but decent shuttlecorks to play.
Ron:)

Yes, it's nice to see young kids here in this forum who are positive about this sport. I wonder how many kids are there around this age who frequent this forum??
Joanne is probably the only kid or even the few adults I know that find grips are so important. Keep up the good work Joanne! :D
If you cut tennis over grip into two diagonally along the cut, you would get
two badminton grips. I use babolat easy grip for tennis, and they are good and
cost effective.

Hmm, no idea how to change a grip by myself, 'sides, I'll prefer the shop to do it, I don't trust myself,;) . Anyway, I love badminton since I first pick up the racquet, I think, lol. :D

I used to use towel grips, but for some reason or other I always got blisters. Can anyone tell me why?

Joanne, could be the way you hold your grip, too tight and/or not correct? There are many people I know who have played badminton for many years and still not have the correct grip.
I personally don't like the feel of the towel grip. ;)
Joanne wrote: I used to use towel grips, but for some reason or other I always got blisters. Can anyone tell me why?
Joanne, do your palms or hands sweat a lot or do you wipe your sweat off with your palms? If so, the towel grip will get wet and when the grip dries each time, it gets harder and stiffer. Consequently when the grip is old, you no longer have the nice, soft, fluffy towel grip but a hard old grip that can cause blisters. You will need to change the towel grip more often or use a different type of grip (which you have done).
Cheers,
Ron

I've had one grip for ~2 years and it still looks exactly like new. It doesn't have the "new" grippy feeling but thats the way i like it

hmm, maybe that's the problem, I've been using that towel grip for 2-3 years already. Xuser, I think my grip is correct, I don't have any more problems with my new grip. Oh, and a towel grip is very comfortable when it's still new. Hmm....I've heard people say that before too, me being older, but I don't believe it. I mean, if my grammar is so good, how come I never won the English prize before?! lol

Just a thought that because of your age your hand is clearly going to be quite small. Are you comfortable with the grip, or does the size of the grip force you to grip loosely, which could lead to the grip rubbing and causing blisters.
Joanne

My hand isn't that small, lol. Just a bit smaller to my mum's. :D :D :D :D :D

How can you make your grip last for a long time?
Well, there a little trick when you're using a rubber overgrip.. once the grip is worn out...take it off, flip it upside down and regrip with that same grip (do not use the backside though because there's no grip there). When regripping with this "trick" follow the same line as it was when you first put it on (it should show because of the sweat absorbed making a line). This will allow you to use the grip perhaps another week or 2 if you play a lot. Unfortunately, the grip size is immensely smaller than what it would be if the grip was new because it's already been used.
When using this little "trick", make sure you don't use the grip for more than 3 weeks or so because it'll start wearing down the original grip underneath because the overgrip has already been used and it's thinner...
Well..i don't know if you guys will try it, i know the performance won't be good or as good. I usually don't use this because grip is so important, I find that it's just better to get new ones :D . uhh, it's just a little thing to use if you haev no more grips and a last resort.

Wow. 3rd page. Anyway, I was wondering, if your grip is worn out will your hands have blisters? Not towel grips, normal ones.

tape one end of the grip at the base, start wrapping around the handle either clockwise or counter-clockwise depending on your preference. Depending on how thick you want the grip to be, you can overlap about 1/8 of the grip width (think this is standard, I've seen people do it 1/4 or more) and just keep doing it until you reach the cone. Trim off the excess grip and apply the grip tape.

shes 11 and a girl. i doubt her hands sweat. dont see how she could hold it to tight either. why use overgrips anyway? the grip that came with my yonex seems to last forever. then again it doesnt absorb liquid at all. if my hand gets sweaty i just whipe it off on my tshirt.

My hands do sweat. :) And I do use overgrips, they're more comfy to play with. I wear a wrist band anyway.

with a good system, the videos look better than most movies. What's not good about interactive movies? Most people i know rather'd be at the cinema than the gym.

well sure it sweats but prolly several times less than a grown up guys hand. girls sweat less than guys and kids sweat less than grown ups. youre both so i thought sweat shouldnt be the reason your grips dont last long.
best overgrips i know are head agassi pro grips. since head doesnt do badminton stuff and tennis grips are longer than badminton ones youd need to cut it down to the right length.

well yeah. if i go running with my gf she sweats a little on her forehead. my tshirt tho is pretty much like if i hadnt fallen into some pool after some time. i run her speed which is slower than mine. i dont have to breave hard and stuff while shes running at her limit. but i sweat like 50x more. same if we run with other ppl. guys sweat way more than girls.

Is that because buys drink more?
In the gym, girls (I mean the ones really can play, not the ones sit on the bench waiting for their bf) can't finish 1 bottle of sports drink in 2 hrs, but guys can finish like 2 or 3 at the same time period.

i think its the other way around. guys drink more cuz they lose more liquid and need to 'refill'. girls weight like 100lbs. guys like 170. we need to move alot more mass. were also not as good looking, dont smell as good, dont sound as cute and we cant smile like they can.
but we do drive better and know how to program a vcr.

Hahahahahha... A very funny post... Let me add a little bit more:
- Girls weight 100 lb say they gain too much weight lately; Guys weight 170 say, finally, I am back in shape
- Guys drive better because we are "forced" to get more training
- Guys know how to program or even fix a VCR, because girls are the ones sit in sofa, holding a bottle of drinks, and eagerly waiting to watch Brad Pete, etc...
- Errr... are we off the topic again??? :D

when i play 2 hours i need 3-5 l gaterade dending on the intensity of the game and the temperature of the hall. after ten mins my tshirt is all wet. after 30 mins sweat starts dropping from my t shirt after 90 mins my double partner complains that the court is all wet and makes him slip.
i just figured im pretty disgusting.
but after youve been wet and sticky all game being clean after the shower is a really really good feeling.

oh yeah, hot shower after a game is good stuff man
i don't sweat much, so i don't change grips often
and the only time i need to change grip is when the friction from my hand and the grip wears it down.
i go to a gym for around 5 hours, and play half that time. i don't usually sweat too much cause there is so much cool down time, but i drink about 3x500ml bottles of water plus a sports beverage around 600ml. i don't drink a lot at a time, that way i don't need to use washroom or cramp up.
Joanne

Did some research, found out the amount of sweating depends on the person alone. For instance, after 10 minutes of playing, I'm sweaty while some of my friends aren't.
