now if only they can knock some sense into TSN... not that i get either channel anyway.

i think the best hope badminton has of making it big in canada is if canadians start winning tournaments, in which case CBC will show more coverage, in which case more people watch, then TSN starts showing it, and then more people get into it, etc. Let the cycle feed itself.

But could you ask them if they were nice enough to broadcast men's singles and doubles too?..:p Even though it's a women's chanel...

Does anybody actually get WTSN? My parents have full cable and they don't get it.

As for more Canadians winning, Jody Patrick beat Denyse Julien in the final of the V Southern/Pan Am Classic in Florida last month, an IBF ranking tournament. The canadian women's doubles also won. Sadly to say, this hasn't even been published on the Badminton Canada webpage, and it's been a month. Sure it's only 1* but hey it's something.

Badminton is pretty popular in Canada too, if we can't even get some coverage of at least the 5* tournaments there, then it's pretty hopeless for the US. The only badminton I've ever seen on US television was on ESPN Sportscenter about a year ago, they showed a five second clip on "Plays of the Week." I couldn't tell who was playing but it was some men's doubles match in some super-fast rally. Rich Eisen just said, "Man, look at them go! I can't even see the birdie!"

Anyways, I'd rather watch badminton than darts. TSN shows a lot of darts.

And has anybody else noticed ESPN's recent fetish with trick-shot billiards? I mean, come on, that stuff used to be on David Letterman's Stupid Human Tricks. I remember in the 80's ABC's Wide World of Sports used to show a lot of non-traditional sports from around the world. Now it's all car racing.

Sorry for the rant, but it's late and this thread touched a nerve.

you're right coupii, badminton canada as an organization had gone downhill, enough said.

I also agreed that calling billard & darts etc as a sport is laughable, i would classify them as recreational games like checkers, chess and shuffleboard. Even bobbing for apples is more physically demanding then those games. Billard trick shots, what a bore, it's just some rehearsed routines, just as much fun as watching a street parade, a clown joggling or watching the coo coo clock every hour. Even worst if the trick shots keep failing and attempts have to be repeated several times over.
