thxac3 12-14-2002, 10:47 AM Hello Ya'll,
I was wondering if anyone knows of a place in the Dallas Texas area that would have open practice on the weekends or evenings? I did find a Dallas Badminton Club online, but the site did not have any information usefull in finding places to play. Thanks in advance, and have a great weekend.

Hey badmad. Thanks for the info. I don't live by that area. I was just curious because my coach and others are working very hard to promote badminton in Texas and we'd like more people to compete in tournaments throughout the state. Our eventual goal is to get more of them to be USAB members as well. And playing for the past 6 years, I don't recall any of the players being from Plano. I would appreciate it if you could give me some contact info with a pm.
thanks,
ruth

xingyu 10-28-2004, 11:59 PM We are actually trying to convince the plano recreation center to allocate some time slot for us to play badminton. Unfortunately, all the gyms there don't have the lines for the badminton courts. They also have some termporary posts for the badminton net. Any suggestions? Thanks!

huz666 08-03-2006, 10:45 AM I've just moved to Plano from the UK and have found that the Carpenter Park Rec Center in West Plano - Coit & Legacy has 2 badminton nets. I usually play with plastic shuttles and would say I'm at an intermediate level. Anyone in Plano fancy a game? If so, mail me at huzkaderbhai@gmail.com.:p
chickendonut 09-09-2006, 12:09 PM Has anyone played at the University of North Texas or is that only for students of UNT ?
If anyone wants to arrange a game - drop me an email chickendonut@centurytel.net. I'm an intermediate.
huz666 09-10-2006, 12:25 PM It turns out that Carpenter Park in Plano uses racket ball courts for badminton, so that's utterly useless, especially with no line markings.
If anyone knows of anywhere in the vicinity I'd be grateful and available for a game.

hobnobkitkat 09-12-2006, 09:28 AM Hi, all,
I am a British, very rusty, badminton player (female). As well as somewhere to play, I would love to find someone to play some friendly games with - who would be patient with my rustiness to begin with - or I would be happy to play with a beginner and give some amateur coaching/advice.
Sharon
By the way, is there anywhere to buy a racket here in the Metroplex
malayali 09-12-2006, 10:18 AM Here are the places to play in the DFW metroplex...
Samuel Grand Recreation Center Tue & Thu 7-10 p.m.
Reverchon Recreation Center Mon 7-10 p.m. Sat 10:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
There are different levels of players there & you can easily pick up a game with a biginner group and/or an intermediate group.
BTW, it is $4.00 to play...

jotaro 11-13-2006, 03:52 PM I'm not sure UNT(University of North Texas) allows outsiders to join our badminton session although we don't require any IDs to enter during Friday session unless you wanna borrow equipments. We're having two badminton sessions per week, Friday and Sunday with two different locations but it's just walking distance to each other. We're packed most of the time these days which it's a good sign that many people are getting interested in badminton. Most players here are beginners while a few of us are intermediates(including me ;)) and we do play matches together. Our population are mainly from India and Asia but European players these days also starting to join our crowd too :). Here are the details if you're interested:
Friday
PE Building
5:30 - 9:30pm
8 courts open(although there're spaces to hold 16 courts :()
ID not required unless you need to borrow equipment
Sunday
Recreation Center
5 - 8:30pm
3 - 6 courts open depends on situation
ID required upon entering and borrowing equipment
EDIT:
Just found out about Guest passes, here's the link

A friend of mine plays at Huffhines Rec Center at Richardson,
at Plano Rd and Apollo, Sat 1:30-6pm. I recommend that you call the rec. center to ensure that the times are the same.
If you want a REAL challenge:D ,but don't mind the additional driving you can visit Reverchon Rec. Center, north of Dallas Downtown. Check out http://www.dallasbadmintonclub.com for additional times and maps. This center probably has the best local players in the area.
shihman 04-15-2007, 12:05 PM hi all, besides all the places mentioned in all the replies, there is also badminton at UTA (University of Texas at Arlington). they play every friday and sunday nights from 7:30pm to 11:00pm. the only stipultaion is that you will need to buy a visitor pass at $5 each time or a yearly membership. quite frankly i think it is fairly expansive if you are not an alumni member. but i do think they have the best set up with steel posts into the ground and tight nets. i used to play in most of the dallas places and have many friends that still do but now i only play at UTA since i live in arlington. for me i am willing to pay the price since i like to play very much.
also a quick note, if you are an intermediate to advance player and wants a serious game, then you may want to stick with dallas crowd.
hope this helps.
poorir 04-16-2007, 05:45 PM Hi
