View Full Version : New Racquet
Sheldon 03-05-2003, 05:28 PM I'm still using an oldish Aerogear 600, new grip, new strings, even new grommits (sure they didnt need "replacing"). Think its time to move onto a newer racquet which can give me a bit more power without me having to try so hard each time I want to clear to the back, which i can do with this racquet.
I'm intrigued to hear about singles and doubles racquets. What are good examples of each, in particular what makes them so good at whatever one. So any good racquets around the 40-60 pound mark in UK?
And yes, your right, i'm too lazy to look through the equipment list at badminton central:D
Yodums 03-05-2003, 05:33 PM What's your budget? I personally like the Yonex Ti Swing Power... Seems like the SS version would suit you or if you have lots of power the SX version.

But I don't think he can get that for 40-60 pounds...
My suggestion is to try models in Babolat, Vicotr, Karakal. All these 3 brands have really good models, which give out amazing performance, and maybe 50% - 60% of price compare to similar Yonex ones.
If u can visit a local store, try to get ur hand on various of model to do a little bit demo. It's very hard to select a racket just base on reading the spec. A littel bit "experiement" can surely help, since 60 pounds is not a small amount (at least, to me...)
TISP's were around 70 pounds last time I looked....
coops241180 03-06-2003, 05:58 AM stick with carlton - see if badmintondiscount.com are still doing the Aerogear 2000TFX for half price reduced from £120 to just £60. when i get the cash i'll have another one -could be a while tho - me being a student an all :D

Yodums 03-06-2003, 03:02 PM My bad on not reading your budget in your original post but this vendor: http://www.pwp.com/badmintonrackets.asp?id=2&cat=Yonex has ok prices. Their MP77 is only 50 Pounds and they have a MP55 for 40 pounds.

Nice prices! Mp77 still going for $200 here
Sheldon 03-09-2003, 10:37 AM heh thanks for the replies and the online shops. When i get the time, i'll look around shops and try out the racquets and then find the cheapest ones around:)
thanks
you might just browse through this site to get some names in mind but the best way to find a racquet and learn what they are about would be just to go out and try them out. you can try them in stores, use friends' racquets, etc.
Sheldon 03-11-2003, 05:36 PM Just a spin off to my original thread.....didnt want to create another one.....what are everybodys experiences with fake racquets? I read about the two? fake MP99s.....they seemed alright racquets for the price....cos i guess i can get a 40-60 pound racquet here (in england) with guarantee against fault, but 2 or 3 proabably fake racquets from china for the same money. Racquet clashes, i'm pretty good at avoiding...i've had 4 racquets, stainless steel carlton which is now retired, still in playable condition, a carlton aerogear about 4-6 years old, still my normal racquet paint peeling off but no damage (i think;)). One carbonex-20............:( present from a semi-pro player, BROKEN AGAINST THE NET POLE.......i'll never forgive myself........and one chinese "pro sports" racquet, strings broken, but frame good.
so looking at my record, even if i get some "flimsy" fakes, they shouldnt brake too easily......also is it true that racquets can get broken by hitting the rim? heh......guess i'm not strong enough to do that;)
Yodums 03-11-2003, 06:07 PM Well everyone may have different experiences with fake racquets since so many people clone em. I mean if it works for you and you like it then I don't see what's the problem :)
That's why they're such a gamble at times.
Wow, you guys from US; Canada and UK suffer in expensive racket price, may be you all should consider come over to HK for holiday and badminton equipment shopping ^_^ , and of course let's play some badminton. It's good to know more badminton friends from all around the world
In China, for 1 fake MP99, it should cost around $20 pounds or cheaper after bargaining the price....

Yeah, that's exactly what a lot of ppl here doing right now. ppl getting "imported" stuff from HK, TW, and other south east Asian nations. Save $$$ is good, however, make sure the one doing shopping (might be friends, relatives) really know what they are doing. Remember all the (cab20 vs cab20 ms) stories? :D
Also, warranty might be another issue, especially for high end models. If something like MP99 SP or MP100 SP broke after 2 wks, well, good luck.

I second that opinion as I am a avid Karakal Ti 75 user
