View Full Version : Anythign like this happen to you before?
Joanne 03-14-2003, 09:05 AM I just found out that I can play much much better than before, at first I thought, ah, it's just those one week of good playing times again, but it's been like that for 3 months already....and this was sudden too, boys I could barely get the serve when I played with them before......now I can even manage to beat them. I remember, one week I lost badly, then sudden;y the next I could nearly beat them..and the next I COULD beat them. And about the sudden discovery of muscles......I can't think how I got them....it's not like I weight lift or anything.
coops241180 03-14-2003, 09:24 AM Hmm - not so quickly but this year (before i got injured) i returned to the club where i played as a junior for one of the lower team - i was asked to play up for the 3rd team (4 teams above where i'd played a year earlier) and won 4 out of 6 games, and ever since have been told that next season there is a fair chance that i will be in the 3rd team/2nd team next year
Cool huh
Neil
Joanne 03-14-2003, 09:31 AM yeah....but do you know WHY and HOW you suddenly improved? I dunno...or maybe it's just the boys that are playing badly. I don't know.
Yodums 03-14-2003, 10:21 AM Well there have been weeks where I played like I felt I had improved so much and there were days such as yesterday where I felt like a newbie doing everything wrong!
I've never had a huge streak where I kept getting better. It's mainly up and down.
badrad 03-14-2003, 10:22 AM Progress is sometimes like hair growing - slow but sure. If you keep looking at it, it will seem as if nothing changes. But look at it each month, and it's grown an inch.
From the time you started the B.C. you likely grew a small pigtail... I can imagine when you get your ponytail length! Congrats!
BTW: Now set your sites on the next level of competitors - you need your continual challenge.

PIGTAIL?!! Oh my LOL.
Anyway, I can't seem to find out any tournaments around here......:( :(
Mr.Hoot 03-14-2003, 11:57 AM Ask your coach/trainer. He should know about a bunch of tourney's that are about to start and get you registered for them.

World Champion and undefeatable for 10 years (like Rudy Hartono during his heyday) -- that is your goal. Nothing less will suffice. See, the muscles are good for beating up on those pesky boys:cool: . Now you need to train with the BAM boys and start beating up them real good. Soon your target will be Chen Hong and Xia Xuanze:D .

LazyBuddy 03-14-2003, 06:54 PM After years of hard working, maybe now it's the "paid off" time. Sometimes, improvement seems very slow, but when they all built up and start to shine, u will be "formly" enter another level.
Also, mental could also be a matter. U play them with nothing to lose, but they might have extra pressure for not "losing to girls" (isn't that true for a lot of guys?). Therefore, u go...
Californian 03-15-2003, 01:55 AM Looks like you and Joseph ("I dont think im improving anymore but getting worse... ") are at opposite ends of the playing spectrum.
Ahh, the emotional ups and downs of this game...
Joanne 03-16-2003, 09:43 AM Lol. I dunno which post to reply to...anyway... I'm too sleepy to reply now. I'll reply tomorrow.... :D Okay... I'll see if my coach knows about any tourneys around.
cooler 03-16-2003, 02:43 PM joanne, badminton (and like many other sport) required coordination of many different skill components: strokes, footwork, strategy, consistency, etc. Although incremental progress of each of those skill may be small but if they r all progressing, the sum of those increment skills into real actions may seem large, especially if you make better connection with each of those skills. Sometime even if you dun feel u have done any things (skills) new at all but if u all able to connects them better u have indeed improved. That is why u feel a large improvement although u feel u haven't really learned new skills.
LazyBuddy 03-16-2003, 04:07 PM hmmmm...
Maybe they all got injuries at the same time??? :D
Joanne 03-18-2003, 09:16 PM Okay.....thanks for all your ideas...I'll figure out later if they're true or not. LOL. Right now I've got to goto school.
Joanne 06-06-2003, 11:45 AM This is not your usual good or bad week. Just lately I managed to beat the boy whom I lost to very badly a month ago! I know I've been putting in a lot of effort during training, but I don't really train or play badminton extra.
The thing is, why is it I've suddenly improved so much? And not to say it's on and off, it's like I'm getting better every week. Or maybe because of some other reason (Tell me what reason. :) ).
wilfredlgf 06-06-2003, 01:04 PM Has a lot to do with confidence as well. Once you know you're improving, you'd often keep getting better until the momentum is halted. It sort of snowballs.
But, as far as I know, is perhaps the most dangerous time when complacency would make a visit.
Cheung 06-06-2003, 07:37 PM better selection of shots played at a more appropriate time..
or just improvement on the quality of shots
ArchDevil145 06-07-2003, 08:01 PM Probably because you are a much better learner than the others.
unregistered 06-08-2003, 04:44 AM well yeah... people do improve.. at 1 point i got frustrated as i kept losing my singles game.. even though i played badminton 4 times a week.. i felt that my training has not done me much but u see.. improvement is something which cant be rushed.... only when time goes by and u play badminton constantly.. u actually will get more experienced.
ArchDevil145 06-08-2003, 04:45 PM Improvement comes slowly in higher levels I guess.
Joanne 06-13-2003, 07:22 AM I play/train badminton 2 hours a week... not much but I try to take advantage of it during that 2 hours. :)
BTW, thanks for your replies. :)
