View Full Version : Grand Prix Finals postponed.
according to an article in chinabadminton.com, the Grand Prix Finals that was scheduled to start in late March will be postponed due to lack of preparation time.
i hope this is not an April fool's joke.
Byro-Nenium 03-17-2001, 04:25 AM Um, lets just hope that they get it started quick....... or even better, that Singapore will broadcast it.......
Does anyone know the seeds for this tournament?
Kelvin 03-17-2001, 05:34 AM I really hope not either, geez.
Maybe it was the Olympics again?
The Olympics have set back schedules in many different areas, not just sports, but TV scheduling and stuff...
On with the badminton now!
the joke is the WGPF 2000 is now to be held in August 2001.then when would the WGPF 2001 be held? in 2003??????????
Kelvin 03-17-2001, 06:55 AM OMG!
Might as well hold the World Cup of Soccer a decade from now.
This is the second delay, but the time the 2001 WGPF starts it will be 2010.
more rumors on this. turns out it wasn't due to lack of preparation, but a last minute withdrawl of one of the sponsors. thus, due to lack of funding, they have to postpone it. and yes, IBF says with the world championships in May, the best time will be August.
well, i am in a way glad. coz i was planning to go to HK at the end of the month to watch it, but i had to postpone the trip. may be i will go in May instead. :)
Cheung 03-17-2001, 08:11 PM Perhaps it should be cancelled altogether and replaced with the 2001 WGPF. It would be very difficult for players to chnage their training schedule at short notice.
i think they should do it anyway, if they don't, the price money would be gone. and besides, the more tournaments, the more matches we get to watch!
Kelvin 03-18-2001, 04:05 AM Again... a call out to the sponsors around the world...
SPONSOR OUR SPORT!!!
IT'S A GREAT SPORT!!!
Cheung 03-18-2001, 06:24 AM If the WGPF gets played in Aug/Sept, then when would the next one be played? Can it be moved forward to Jan/Feb?
The situation would be two World Grand Prix Finals in the space of less than three months. Face it guys, isn;t our sport a dying game?
For instance, I log on in the morning, watch some badminton on TV(video), go out and have a couple of games, have dinner, come back and there's this post on "Pretty Girls" with 39 threads. I thought we were supposed to be playing badminton?
cooler 03-18-2001, 06:37 AM dying game: Yes and no:
yes: the north american population is aging so badminton is dropped in favor of golf.
no: because i think IBF is not doing a good job promoting badminton which caused the lack of world interest.
Kelvin 03-18-2001, 07:07 AM agreed.
Too many North Americans playing golf... (me included)
but I still play as much as possible.
3 times a week for 3-4 hours isn't enough though. :(
It's hard finding the gymnasium time to do it in.
Maybe one of us could build an indoor court attached to the house?
That would be pretty cool.
People have tennis courts, and swimming pools in their yards, and even basketball courts!
So why not an indoor badminton court? :)
Just my quirky thought though.
:) :( :o :D ;) :P :? :X
