I don't think you have ever met me. I look very asian. Perhaps you know someone who's started using the same alias since I started using it over a decade ago. I can't say I was the first but I've always been the first and only on anything I've joined except for being second on ICQ.

Hello! I used to play in Rizal but that was years ago. Lately, I've been playing in Shuttlezone. Not bad for an amateur like me. I've also tried in Toss N Smash but the lighting is awful (we usually play at night). Plus the security sucks. My side mirror was stolen and I've heard some friends who have had a bad experience there...tsk...tsk...tsk!!!

Hello my Filipino and Chinese Friends! I'm Filipino-Chinese I play at Ayala Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa but play most of the time at La Pavillion Manila Bay coz most of my friends think Alabang is too far. La Pavillion has a really nice ambiance, rubberized floor and has an excellent parking (you can park 30 tanks in that area and you still have space). And I really love the crowd their.

the courts along e rodriguez (C5) near king arthur's court is Shuttle's Best (yup that's the name......:D ) 6 courts, open, no membership required. 180/hour. I think they have a player's fee of 25 bucks during the peak hours.

Hope this helps.

guys, if you want chao pai products, i'm selling.

powersmash was okay. for a big gym like that housing 16 courts, i wish they built more than just 1 comfort room. from where i was playing last thursday, i felt lazy treading my way to the CR just to change shirt. and i really, really hate guest fees too. hmm, oh well.

Good afternoon.

My friends and I have been playing for about a year now, hopping between Crame, Chuts, Arena and lately Sure Play. Do you personally know a good coach/trainor in QC? I am close to being labelled Mr Inconsistent because I can be good and very very bad when I play. Some friends would also like to improve their skills. What are the running rates?

Hi everybody. I started playing badminton May of last year. I used to play then in Fort Bonifacio and Villamor. Then I learned about Shuttle Zone, Camp Badminton in FTI and lately, South Smash. But frequently, I play in Laguna Bel Air club house.

Sad part is the last time I played was a month and a half ago. I'm in Warsaw Poland right now and I hope through threads like this, I may be able to find somebody here to play with.

I live in a town called Imus which is located in Cavite.

I don't really get to play badminton regularly at a certain gym. Most of which i know of are too far away.

Does anyone know a place where i can find a good place to train near my place?
Anywhere in Imus, Bacoor, Las Pinas, or anywhere near.

Hi, I'm new here.Someone I know e-mailed me this, I want to share this to evryone who plays, btw, I edited the names so as to protect their identities:

Hi!
Just want to share an unforgettable experience last night in badminton..
I have a reservation at Shuttle Power in Pasig with address at 14-B
Sandoval Ave., Pingbuhatan Pasig City at 8-10PM last night. I was with
Ms.X and Mr. X with her girlfriend but the two of them
left at 9:15 PM. We continued playing to consume our reserved slot. At
about 9:40PM three men entered the court posing to be players but after
2 minutes two of them announced the hold-up with .45 pistols and
immediately collect all the bags around and ask everybody to lie down on
the floor. the incident take only several minutes maybe 5 minutes or
less. Almost all the courts are fully occupied at that time. The owner,
Ms.X lost more than P50k on that
incident consisting of the courts sales since Thursday Aug,28. The
amount should have have been deposited yesterday but he was unable to do
it due to other tasks. She lost everything in her bag including credit
card!
s, car keys, ATM cards, cell phone and other personal belongings. I
myself lost lost my BPI backpack with my drivers licence, car keys, home
keys, wallet, PNB VISA, ATM cards, 3 cell phones, cross pen my office
clothes and the like.Ms.X on the otherhand lost her cellphone shoes
and clothes on her backpack. All the other players lost their bags, car
keys and other personal belongings. Please take extra care in choosing
your courts coz it seems badminton courts are also potential targets of
these unlawful elements. One of the men even fired a shot on their way
out. We are just thankful that no one was hurt in the incident. Pasig
police and barangay tanods responded right away but nobody was arrested
as of these writing.

that is a scary incident. sorry to hear that. but let's console ourselves and be happy that no one was hurt.

perhaps this incident plus the thread on gym theft, badminton players should be bringing only the minimal amount of cash + valuable to the gym.

graphite
09-14-2003, 08:57 AM
One of our gyms here which I am a member of requires everyone to use a membership pre-paid card. What you do is that you just load money into your account for example, and whenever you go to that gym to play, buy food at their restobar, etc., all you need to present is your card and you dont need to bring cash. This is a good idea to discourage the robbers since they can't get that much cash, just a bunch of plastic cards. ;)

GOwin
09-16-2003, 09:30 PM
average court rates in metro manila, around P200.00 per hour (plus guest fee, if you're not a member)

i'm looking for sunday playmates (i got a regular group during saturdays), and want to play with a different set of players. i live in the makati area.

hey, graphite, just in case i'm going to spend my december holidays at CDO, would you be interested in playing? :D

mikecuy
09-16-2003, 09:55 PM
I have not played in Green Valley yet, will give it a try this weekend since I will be going up there. According to the lady i spoke on the phone, their rates is P125/hr w/o light; P250/hr w/ lights.

Yes, the rates here in MetroManila average out to be P200/hr.

i played in chuts last night and i was hassled with a routinary inspection of bags before you can enter the court. must be due to the recent events of holdups here. our badminton courts are good targets since most of our courts only have one door both for entrance and exit.

GOwin, i play at smasher's court in ortigas every sunday if you want to join us. i think you've played with some of my friends already in camp aguinaldo. remember gullybetty and rickleng of PEx?

guys, i'm organizing a small tournament for a worthy cause. it'll be on november 9, sunday, also at smasher's court. proceeds will go to an aeta community in barangay sitio maporac, zambales. if you wanna join or for further details, please email me. thanks! :D

Here in CDO, more and more people are starting to play badminton since they opened more courts. :) Before, the only public court here was in the Pelaez Sports Center run by the gov't and we just pay PhP10.00 for a whole day of playing kaya lang we have to share since isa lang ang court. Palit-palitan lang. There are two different places here that have badminton courts. One is in Sports Avenue, 2 wooden courts, 1 rubberized paint cement court. PhP60/hr for members, PhP120/hr for non-members. The other is in Cagayan Badminton Center, 4 rubberized paint cement courts. PhP80/hr on weekdays, PhP100/hr on weekends. :)

In Manila also, a lot of people are hooked into badminton since so many warehouses are now converted to a gym!! But prices of your badminton courts there in CDO are relatively low!!! but i think i like the idea where the members have this prepaid card to gain access of the gym as what you are now enjoying!!

Here in Manila particularly in Makati price per hour ranges from Php 175 (this is for prepaid booking meaning you need to pay in advance) otherwise price is bet Php200-300/hr :(

graphite
09-22-2003, 09:18 AM
Hehe. Here in CDO, the court rates are fixed whether pre-paid or not. Even if it is cheaper here in our place, for a student like me, its still not that cheap. Hehe. ;) Hey guys, it seems na marami na tayong mga Filipino members here sa BadmintonForum! Why don't we create a group? Yung isang forum na vini-visit ko (Glocktalk.com), the Filipino members have their own sub-forum and they/we call them/ourselves Band of Glockers (from the HBO series Band of Brothers.) so Why don't we call ourselves Band of Badders or somethin? Maybe we can talk kwun into it! Hehe. :D What do you guys think? :)

p.s.

Heres the link (http://www.glocktalk.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=80) of the Filipino sub-forum on Glocktalk.com. ;) How about it kwun? :) Maybe we can also create sub-forums for other big badminton clubs too! Just a suggestion!

it's offline right now, but if enough guys are interested, i can revive it. :) just holler.

graphite, considering that we have around 100 member who has philipines as their location, i can see the potential for that!

but you must tell me what would be the intend/goal of the forum, and also language restrictions (if any) and who would be responsible for it and potentially moderating it.

my main concern is the content and also the number of active users for the forum. how much traffic did the previous forums generate? i would hesitate to open up a new forum if there will hardly be any posts there..

cheers.

graphite, considering that we have around 100 member who has philipines as their location, i can see the potential for that!

but you must tell me what would be the intend/goal of the forum, and also language restrictions (if any) and who would be responsible for it and potentially moderating it.

my main concern is the content and also the number of active users for the forum. how much traffic did the previous forums generate? i would hesitate to open up a new forum if there will hardly be any posts there..

cheers.

Hi Kwun! Here are some of my ideas...

One of the probable goals of the forum is for the Filipino members to be organized and to encourage them to be active in BF. The forum would make it easier for the Filipino members to organize themselves to play baddy or start a tournament or something. It would also encourage more people to join BF! We could also create a BC/BF Philippine contingent! :) (I think there is also a group like this but from another country but I can't really remember...) Language restrictions would probably just like what we already impose now, no foul words, useless/offensive posts, no commercial advertising and promotion posts, etc. The medium should still be in English, but its up to you if its okay to use Filipino/Tagalog. Maybe you could allow Filipino/Tagalog provided it still follows the forum rules on posting or an English translation must be provided. (optional)

To increase the number of active users, maybe we could e-mail/pm the Filipino members about the new forum and invite them to be active in it. The forum that I mentioned generates fair amount of traffic, having daily posts and stuff. All we need to do is to inform the others about this new forum. As for who would be responsible and potentially moderating it, I could do it since I'm active in BF and I know the language and will be able to monitor their posts but again, the decision is up to you since your the big man of the forum. :) :)

Hi everyone, a badminton facility will be opening soon near where I live. For those with memberships in these kinds of clubs, I'd like to ask for your opinion and experiences if they are good value for money. I usually play in our village court, and since the game is really booming on our country, sometimes the wait in between games can be more than an hour! This is why I am inclined to join this new club, although I want to make sure that I spend the money wisely. The offer is:

P 2,000 membership
P 3,500 for a "family package"
P 50 guest fee for non-members
P 200 per hour for the Taraflex courts
P 160 per hour for the concrete courts

This may seem to be the going rate for courts in Manila but we are outside of Metro Manila.

Another thing, is there a contract that you signed when you joined? or even a list of the policies or regulations?

The membership fee is on a limited basis while pre-selling, so it may increase when the club formally opens. That's why I want to join before the fee goes up.

Your opinions will be of help. Thanks!

I think the money that you are paying for the membership is a standard rates. You should check the court conditions and also who are the owners. Make sure they have good facilities and ample parking place.

Hi there. Where exactly are you from? In Metro Manila, a no. of badminton courts offer membership fee. I'm member to some of those. Whether membership fee is worth it or not depends on (in my opinion):
1. Is the court exclusive to members? If it is, then how would you like playing often in that court? Think of it this way, membership fee in a way cover for guest fees (if courts allow guests to play) that you should be spending for 1 year. If you play, let's say more than 2x a week, then probably it would be cheaper to sign up as a member, if not, and if the court allows you to play as a guest, then why sign up?
2. Will the court allow non-members to play without a member? If you think you'll often play in that court, and the court allows non-members to play without hassle of aligning your sched with a member, then why sign up? If not, then it might be more convenient for you to sign up as a member.
3. Perks given exclusive to members. - How convenient and advantageous it would be to suit your personal needs. e.g. if your schedule demands a limited time in the badminton court, you as a member should be able to have priority in court reservation.
4. Are there activities being offered that are exclusive to members? Are you interested in joining those activities? If not, why get the membership?

Of course, these pointers assume that you've already made an ocular and the flooring, ceiling, and facilities of the court satisfies you.

On the fee bracket, in Metro Manila, membership ranges from P1000-5000. Usually those cheaper only have taraflex mat with cement flooring, more expensive ones have cozy ambiance, such as lounge, spa, salon, etc. Others price cheaper but with a monthly due. On the court fee, normally taraflex courts are between P200-300. Rubberpainted courts charge cheaper from P100-180. Normal guest fee is P50. Some membership already includes dependents.

If you're outside Metro Manila, I honestly don't have any idea on the price range. But I guess those near Metro would give a little bit cheaper membership or even align theirs with those within Metro esp if there is no immeidate competition in the vicintiy.
Well I do hope I made a little bit sense.

Regards

Hi Coandrew, I dont play in ShuttleZone anymore. I play mostly at Valle Verde (mondays and thurs evenings) and at PowerSmash (sometimes sat pm). Then I get invited to play Sat. evenings at the San Juan courts.

Ya, lots of badminton courts sprouting all over metro manila. And also watch Solar Sports and RPN9 on sat or sun, they are televising the Phil. Badminton Invitationals that are being played every saturday at the valle verde country club. Top players of the country are playing in this tournament. :D

I'm evaluating the membership & rates of the Yonex Badminton Club.

ants
10-12-2003, 09:30 PM
It won't be expensive if you split it with your friends. Not that you are paying 300 yourself. If the quality of court and the services there is good , 300 is a good price. Of cause you don't compare to the price per hr of other courts. Anyway we will have to wait and see weather 300 is expensive or not when the court is ready.

hi all! just found out about this great site yesterday and it's a treasure trove! anyways, i just picked up the sport quite recently; one month and one week to be exact. i'm enjoying the sport immensely and i've made it a habit to play twice on weekdays and on weekends. this has been my first regular exercise in my so-so years.

i play in the office gym (heaven-sent freebie) and at the gbc (greenpark subdivision in pasig). i'm seriously considering getting the services of a trainer one of these days so as to improve my game (which if i may add, needs a whole lot of improvement).

anyway, i hope to hook up with one of you guys in the near future. best regards!

There is a badminton court in QC/scout area called Battledore (?). I havent been there but some friends said it is a good place. Who is interested to play? (Lakas ng loob mag invite kahit beginner). If you can indicate your interest and the period you'd be free, we can arrange something.

i now play in bacolod, where badminton is just picking up.

places to play:
1. po hang courts (used to be a private place open only on mwf for 'club' people, the first good court in bacolod) - P50 per session
po hang is upgrading to taraflex by next month, will be P150/hr +50guest fee for non members
2. 2nd street - P50 per session (non taraflex courts)
3. Lopues Mandalagn - taraflex courts, P150/hr/court for members
4. 2 other courts (non taraflex) - 100/hr/court

when in mla, i go with friends' memberships @
1. badminton central, makati
2. power smash, pasong tamo makati
3. camp aguinaldo GHQ and logcom

if any of u guys happen to drop by bacolod, lemme know, lets play

hi kokoy. i play often in battledore. it's just a 5-minute drive from my house. i'd say it's one of the best local courts around. 8 courts in victor mats, no membership, no guest fee, Php250 per hour on peak hours. not sure of the rates during off peak hours. i usually play at nights. :)

I usually have my racquets strung by Eric of racquets and more..(did i spell that right?!?) its the shop near white plains q.c. He uses a yonex stringing machine there (the manual kind). I think sometimes he's also at the yonex badminton club at shaw. He's been stringin' racquets for ages. So far he's been ok in stringing my racquets. He's really careful when stringing it. So far so good I don't get my racquets back with any scratches from stringing. He also gives good advice on how much your racquet can take..

Hazel : Racquets are not cheap in Manila. Better deals in Malaysia and Thailand.

Anyway here's a sample website of a shop selling badminton stuff in manila:
www.badmintonfreaks.com

There's a lot of shops but they dont have websites.

Hi! Do you play in Ortigas? We usually play every Wednesday at Smashville. And we're looking for additional players since sometimes we have to cancell our game if one of us can't make it. We're only four so it really sucks when one of us can't make it. But I have to warn you I'm very new at this, so whoever is on my team usually ends up the loser. :D

Hi guys! I was wondering, who among here are from the Philippines and where do you play? I'm from Cagayan de Oro and play at the Pelaez Sports Center and sometimes at Alwana Village. :)

Hi everyone!!! I'm from Cebu. Just would like to ask for tips on steaming shuttles. Got these new Victor gold shuttlecocks from China. Got disappointed coz they're not the same quality as the ones I got from Sports City Greenhills a year ago. They are brittle!!! Would steaming the shuttles help?

On another note, been playing regularly with friends for more than two years now. We have a very new facility called Metro Sports Badminton Club which has 12 taraflex courts. Boy, it's been always full. I would say it's comparable to the Yonex Badminton Center in Mandaluyong although this one has a full exercise gym, a spa, airconditioned lobby, lockers, shower rooms. They're planning to open two more courts here. It's developed by Club Ultima. I was wondering if there are any courts like Shuttledore (Libis) in Makati area. Almost all are by membership only kasi.

I suggest the backhand is the last thing you try to improve if indeed you are a newbie. In fact avoid using it and try to be in the position of using a forehand all the time.

Visit www.smashphil.com....lots of people you can play with and talk to.

HTH :)

Coming from taft, make a right on United Nation Ave. Make a U-turn when appropricate. Cross taft Ave. Turn right on Ma Orosa st. (don't know the new name of the st.) go straight. Cross Padre Burgos st and turn right on Gen. LUNa... enter Intramuros, when you hit the 4th st (back of San agustin church) turn left, you should see the sign. They have play all you can on Sat and Suns up to 5 pm. See you there.

:o Hi Ian G.! Im from Manila, and i use to play at olivarez gym in sucat rd. paranaque. They have 25 courts and you don't need to call them for reservation or to be a member. Just go there anytime you feel to play.. the rates are 220/hour/court. Have a nice day!
