Most of us experience cycles of good days and bad periods in our game. Sometimes, all our shots are bad, and sometimes we have that magic touch. How long does the cycle usually last?

I noticed a huge improvement in my game from October to december, before going downhill up until today. Today was probably my best day ever--people who I ordinarily lose 15-3 with were on the recieving end of the 2! Nearly all the smashes went where i wanted it to go (upper right arm pit), most of the tight drops hit the tape and rolled over (to the other side!), my footwork unfaillingly brought me where I need to be, and I was even able to lean over fast enough to return smashes down the alley. There was definetly magic in the air as not only was I able to do stuff I couldn't before, but i also did them consistently! I'm sure a large part of it was due to the awsome advice at badminton forum, but there's that extra magic too.

So to the vetrans out there, how much longer do I have to enjoy this paradise?

What I experienced was the exact opposite. Marshall said he entered this state of concentration where he would see only himself, the net, and the bird, with everything else blocked out. Today, I felt as though I was able to percieve everything and everyone, and just know where everthing were even if I couldn't see it myself. I even had explosive power like never before. I even managed to jump smash every single clear without getting tired, and jump high enough to smash it before the service line. One of my smashes even caused the bird to bounce above the basketball net. I'm still shocked at how well i played--much better than the whatever it was I did before. It's like I accidentally walked over a mind & body 2X powerup on the way to the gym!!!!

Wouldn't it be great to hold onto that? If you ever find out how, or if you figure out how to induce it at will, there's a whole world of athletes out there wanting to know. You would make a fortune as a sports consultant.

To maintain good day cycles and prevent bad day cycles:
1. Prepare and maintain your physicall and psychological condition well.
2. Keep positive thinking mind. If one make mistake, let go and be reminded not to make the same mistake twice. Treat mistake as learning process.
3. Always strive for the best, do and give the best you can.
4. Before the game start, always free and relax your mind.
5. Play relax and seriously.

To prevent or recover from bad day cycles:
1. Do a self instropection. Analyze where things have gone wrong, such as not enough sleep, stress of jobs/school/exam, conflicts. If you have one of it, work it out. Free and let go your mind from it.
2. Try to concentrate more on the game, not to be distracted easily.
3. If one make mistakes on the game, don't get discourage or upset. Take positive side of it as a learning experience.

Hope this will help. :)

If you can keep up a similar level of play then it sounds like you've reached a whole new level of playing caliber. If you never have another day like it then kick yourself for not playing the lottery that day instead of badminton! :D

Sounds like you had a lot of fun that day but some of the things you describe sound a bit incredulous...

"I even managed to jump smash every single clear without getting tired, and jump high enough to smash it before the service line."

You mean your smashes landed before the front service line of the opposing side?? Where were you smashing from... your front service line?!

"One of my smashes even caused the bird to bounce above the basketball net."

You're telling me one of your smashes bounced over a 10' high basketball rim after it hit the floor on the opposing side??? Were you guys playing with rubber shuttles or something??

You sure this wasn't just a wet dream? ;)

Quite possibly... but hardly impossible. I just did some jumping tests a few minutes ago and had a reach of about 3m high (2.9m-3.m) at the finger tips. With an racquet that's about 3.6m high reach, so a smash that hugs the tape should be able to fall within 3m of the net from the back. Maybe I was closer to the front than I thought I was but it was definetly much closer than before. As for the shuttle bouncing, yea that does sound like BS... lemme think what I had for lunch... most have been LSD. :o :o
