What sports in Singapore does the government actually invest in? Except for football (Soccer).

And Table Tennis but their from China so that doesn't count......

I think you could go check out those propaganda-type nonsense like SPEX 2000 (dunno what's it called now) when they come out (occasionally) on Sat.... basically, the govt sponsors two different categories of sports, core and sth else (can't remember what's it called). The rest are not sponsored. Core sports include TT, Badminton, Swimming, Sailing, Soccer.... most of which we have no chance of excelling in at world level, save for the Sailing Asian Games golds in 98 that came coz there were only 3 competitors in each event and TT which makes use of talents that are specially scouted fr China (mind you, our assn duzn't wait for the players to come on their own accord). The second category has Wushu and some others which I dun remember.

As you can see, I'm not exactly impressed with what our govt has been doing. I think it's kinda stupid when you have to make ppl achieve all sorts of "mean feats" like making the World Cup in 2010 (fat chance), winning the Thomas Cup in 2012 (fatter chance still), climbing Mt Everest not once but twice and going to the Antartica as part of the millenium celebrations.... just so that we can be proud of our nation? Oh c'mon. And better still getting foreign imports to do (some of) it. Just abt shows how under-developed our mentality is. I dun mean that there's anything wrong with wanting to win.... if you have the means to do so, go ahead. But if you dun, what's the pt of pushing it so hard?

Sorry I'm rambling again.
