I had been playing in YMCA Rochester for a while but I think the guy moved to some other country and other players also moved out of Minnesota. So I don't know about Rochester any more. But I am playing at YMCA Blaisdel, which is temporarily shifted to YMCA downtown.

And yes, check this website : http://www.twincitiesbadminton.com/

Thanks for the input. I just called Rochester Y (YMCA as you mentioned) and they do not have the program but do open for badminton. They provide equipment (net and poles) the court would be free for non-members Sat afternoon. This is great news.

Now I am wondering, if I could find someone to play together. Anyone interested?

I had hard time finding a place to play in Rochester. Since they don't ply at Y anymore, I wonder if you will find any other place.

I'm also from 55901. I'm planning on calling YMCA to see if they have badminton equipments and if so, for sure i'll sign up for the membership.

Where else do folks play in 55901?

Ok..I went to see the gym at Rochester Recreation Center and there were no Badminton court lines on the floor. Their web site says that the gym can be setup for two badminton courts. I went to the office and talked to a lady. She said in order for us to play Badminton, it will regarded as a private event which we have to rent the gym for a hourly rate of $50+tax. Only if we rent the place that they will setup the courts.

I think this is too much money since only 8 players can play at one time.

Does any one has kids who go to any High Schools in Rochester, MN? If they do please ask them to see if their gym has Badminton courts.

Most likely high schools might not have these but at least a worth a try.

PM me if anyone gets any more info on where to play.

Thanks

Ok more search, I found that RCTC Field house have 10 badminton courts available. Now I need to go there and check the place out and get more info. If anyone is interested to go with me and talk to some people there about using their facility, please email me at sajiw2@gmail.com We also need to know how many players in Rochester, MN that are ready to play and join us. This will give us idea of any fees that each player has to pay so we can rent the courts. Please let me know and email me if anyone wants to go and talk to the Field house personal. Thanks

I will come tonight, so thanks for letting me know.

Will need to borrow a racquet though, do you think someone will oblige?

I have a spare one, MP99 if that fits your need.

BTW, are you coming from UK tonight?

An MP99 will be fine. I sold my AT700s (very much like the MP99) becuase I couldn't get used to it and have gone back to Carlton, but as I have no racquets and I want a game, I am very happy to take up your generous offer!!

I arrived in Rochester last Staurday. See you tonight.

As mentioned previously in this thread, check out www.twincitiesbadminton.com. This site lists all of the places to play, including some new ones.

In my opinion, one of the better places for "drop-in" visitors is the Luxton Rec. Center in Minneapolis. It can get crowded, but people are usually willing to mix it up with newcomers.

I looked at www.twincitiesbadminton.com but I still don't know where to go as a beginner. A lot of those places seem like leagues or clubs: experienced players playing doubles matches with each other.

I have never played before and I have a friend who wants to teach me, but we don't know where to find a court where we can just practice casually with each other. It'd be nice if there was a place that was either not very busy or took reservations, so we wouldn't have to worry about rotating in and out with other people all the time. I'm expecting that sort of thing to cost more, e.g. gym membership, which is okay... I just don't know where or how to find it.

Does anyone know a place like that in the Twin Cities area? Thanks for any help. I'd like to get into the sport because it seems like a lot of fun.

My advice would be to try any of the locations marked as "new" on TCBC's website. I've heard that Plymouth is underutilized. you might also try Maple Grove, Cottage Grove or Apple Valley. All of these are drop-in locations that aren't run by clubs.

Try Luxton when you get your skills up a bit.

No one is playing at the downtonw YMCA anymore. That was a temporary location for the Twin Cities Badminton Club. Go to minnesotabadminton.com for a current list of playing locations.

Good luck!

I play with the Vietnamese club in Bloomington. I think we are still taking members. Despite the name, it's a very diverse group.

There are also drop-in locations such as Luxton, Peavy, and Hopkins where you can show up any time.

Our club's website is www.mnvbc.com (http://www.mnvbc.com).
