i've fairly new to the forum, so i won't know any history involving the edit button
but i think it should be a staple in any forum
it will make posting so much easier

    who's with me?!

okay, so i've sifted through the "archives"
    interesting debates going on there...
the reason why i wanted to use the edit function is mainly in the places to play section
makes it easier for people to post/update facility info and such
also, as for the price changing and stuff on market place
simple way to solve is have things confirm over PM
because both parties can download/save pm's
otherwise, print screens won't hurt either
    just a thought

maybe just enable edit in places to play =)

yea, i read through that already
now i'm just suggesting adding it to "places to play" so it'll be easier to aggregate all the information of a particular place in one post

A join date of Aug 2006 does not seem new.

Less than a few months would be considered new.

    ..

if i recall, someone mentioned something about the possibility of members editing and adding more unnecessary comments which might not be detected by the mods, as the main reason.
Also, if a member aggregates all the infos in 1 post, what happens when there are future changes to the places of play but the member is no longer active. Who will edit/update the infos in that 1 post?
Might as well ask the mods to do the editing or consolidate everything in one post..

i joined long time ago, but went inactive after a few weeks for a LONG period of time
recently got back into badminton and this forum
so technically i've only been on this forum for about 2 months

hey, i'm down for that, as long as information is organized in some manner to help newcomers find places to play

..you might be down for that, but how the mods?? they might not have the time to go back and edit the posts containing all the infos in that one single post..
Take for example your case. You signed up a while back but haven't been active for a few yrs. Thank goodness you're back now, but some members don't even come back.
We're just trying to help the mods do as little work as possible.
imo, the infos and format we have now are pretty much organized.

    I am with OP.

If a thread is outdated it would fade by itself and somebody else should start a new one with more updated info.

A healthy forum shouldn't rely only the mods to ensure the quality of the posts. I think BCer are up the standard with organizing thread themselves(look at our paw games).

The no-edit after 15 mins policy is out of date in my opinion and BC is the only forum I visit that does not support edit. Sometimes I find it extremely frustrating when I have to look through the entire thread just to find the information I need, pieces by pieces. That can be easily managed by the OP a the first post. IE: Video links, tournament results, player's profile, buy and sells, social gathering, rankings and many many more.

I believe the PROS of "edit" would offset the CONS, and would make BC much more easier to follow.

I am with b.leung on this regard and I sincerely hope our moderator would consider to make the change. :)

    haha, thanks for the support
but i think we are playing to a deaf audience
i still don't see any serious harm to the edit button

we deserve the edit button just like the rest of the forums out there!

edit: just to abuse the 15 seconds!!

we should have a short trial period
and see if that "causes" problems
cuz right now, the proposed problems are all speculations
i think bcers are intelligent enough to know how to use this privilege properly

Personally, this feature should be since the beginning. Like most forums I go to, the edit button is present. I do not see the valid reason for this 15 minute time limit - especially when mod/admin goes and modifies their own post to correct something (that is past the time limit that we would have), that we cannot do to our own post.
