It's rare feat that KOR scooped all 5 titles, the other one should be 2008 German GP.

You have a good memory CLELY. :):):)

    In that tournament, China and Japan were the only 2 other nations in the finals;

I would tell Lin Dan that he was lucky that I wasn't the umpire in that match. :D:D:D

If I were the umpire there, I would have stopped the match and given the match to LCW (because of LD's bad behaviour).

First of all, his opponent was LEE HYUN-IL. Go and search the 2008 Korean Open Final on YOUTUBE.
I'm not sure if the umpire has the power to do that.

Secondly, it wasn't Lin Dan who initiated the fight, but rather Li Mao because Li Mao started shouting after Lin Dan questioned the line call (which was obviously wrong, but the umpire did nothing to correct it), and after that Lin Dan responded by threatening to punch Li Mao. He had to be restrained by his coaches to prevent him from getting more emotional. Lee Hyun-il was actually just the opponent behind the net in this match, he wasn't involved in the fight. Eventually, Lin Dan lost his cool and blew a matchpoint and lost the eventual match to Lee Hyun-il. I understand that you are a badminton lover but I would appreciate it if you check out the facts before you commented, similar to many others about what happened during the China Open 2007 final

Who is the "Best Player of ALL Time"?

While it is not possible nor productive to judge who is the "best player of all time" because the champion players belong to a different era with no chance to meet at their prime to determine who is better, we have records to indicate how great they were.

In the past when there were no World Championships and badminton was not admitted to the Olympics yet, the All-England was the only yardstick as the "unofficial world championships" as it was open to players from all over the world after WWII. On record Prakesh Nath (IND) was runner-up to Conny Jepsen(SWE) in 1947. It used to be a "closed-door" affair restricted to players from Europe and America, countries which have a close relationship with England.

Unfortunately, because of politics, China did not participate then and we missed the opportunity of watching Tang XF and his teammates in action. Luan Jin, who is now chief coach of Singapore, was the first Chinese who won the title in 1983 and was followed later by Zhao Jianhua (1985), Yang Yang (1989) and others. China seemed to dominate from 2004 when Lin Dan won his first title, but Lee Chong Wei broke the spell when he gatecrashed in 2010 and this year.

Here is the list of the most impressive winners and the number of times they won the MS title:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_All_England_Men's_Singles_champions

And the following won at least 4 times, with the year of their first victory as indicated:

    8 - Rudy Hartono (INA) 1968 (7 successive times from 1968-74 and 1976)
    7 - Erland Kops (DEN) 1958
    6 - Frank Devlin (IRE) 1925
    5 - Ralph Nichols (ENG) 1932
4 - George Alan Thomas (ENG) 1920 (The Thomas Cup was named after him)
4 - Wong Peng Soon (MAS) 1952 (WPS resided in SIN which was then part of Malaya)
    4 - Eddy Choong (MAS) 1953
    4 - Morton Frost (DEN) 1982
    4 - Lin Dan (CHN) 2004

So who is the greatest? A moot point really. :D:D:D

Good news for Koo-Tan as Lee-Jung skip Masters Finals

    By RAJES PAUL

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles specialists Lee Yong-dae and Jung Jae-sung of South Korea served a double blow to their fans yesterday.
The Korean top pair first lost in their home Grand Prix Gold men’s doubles final and then announced that they would be skipping the Super Series Masters Finals, which begins in Liuzhou, China, on Wednesday. The duo cited Jae-sung’s arm injury as the reason for their decision.
World No. 2 Yong-dae and Jae-sung went down 15-21, 22-24 to compatriots Ko Sung-hyun and Yoo Yeon-seong in the final largely due to Jae-sung’s injury. Jae-sung and Yong-dae said they hoped to come back stronger for the lucrative US$1.2mil South Korea Open and the Malaysia Open next month.
Their decision is good news for Malaysia’s Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong as they now have one threat less from South Korea in the Masters Finals, which is the final tournament of the year for the Malaysians to salvage some pride.
Yong-dae-Jae-sung will likely be replaced by reserves Alven Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan of Indonesia.
The other six qualifiers are China’s Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng, Guo Zhengdong-Chai Biao; Denmark’s Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen; Japan’s Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Noriyasu Hirata and Indonesia’s Mohd Ahsan-Bona Septano.
National coach Tan Kim Her, who was with the Malaysian team in South Korea, said Jae-sung’s injury had got worse.
“Yong-dae told me that they are not making the trip to China because of Jae-sung’s injury and the Grand Prix Gold was their last tournament for the year,” said Kim Her.
“Jae-sung needs treatment and Yong-dae felt that a short break would do them good. They have had a hectic season,” he said.
In their absence, Sung-hyun-Yeon-seong will still pose a familiar threat to Kien Keat-Boon Heong, who have developed a phobia for South Korean opposition. The Malaysians have not beaten the South Korean No. 2 pair in their last six meetings.
In fact, Sung-hyun-Yeon-seong are now ranked one rung higher than the world No. 5 Kien Keat-Boon Heong.
“Koo and Tan have shown some improvement and we are looking forward to their best performances this year at the Super Series Masters Finals. It’s good that one of the South Korean pairs is out,” said Kim Her.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong are looking more confident since coming under the charge of Pang Cheh Chang and two-time South Korean Olympic Games silver medallist Yoo Yong-sung. All they need now are some good results to get their groove back.
Kien Keat-Boon Heong and world No. 1 Lee Chong Wei left for Liuzhou yesterday with their coaches. Chong Wei won the men’s singles title in the last three Masters Finals while Kien Keat-Boon Heong were doubles winners at the inaugural event in 2008.

Fair comment, point taken which I shared. The posting of mine you quoted taken by itself seems to imply I'm for walkovers - far from it. If you read all my postings in this thread as a whole, I'm sure you'd come to the right conclusion that I'm against walkovers; I'm saying this lest I'm again misunderstood and quoted out of context, unintentionally of course. Due to the nature of such a long thread with various postings and bits and pieces here and there, as well as other side issues involved, the main argument is sometimes lost or becomes distorted, plus the nature and limitation of the written word as opposed to the spoken word and face-to-face conversation with tone and body language visible - unintended meanings are implied, misunderstandings arise,mis-interpretations occur, the result, as you've said:we are at each other's throats.
Anyway, thanks, let's move on. Funny, how this issue of walkovers has become a bee in a bonnet for so many of us here.:);):D

Thanks for the info, I've asked about Park Sung-hwan before and couldn't get an answer until now. I thought he was called back to serve the armed forces. Wonder if he still stand a chance to qualify for London OG, esp now that his compatriot Lee HI has arisen, plus Shon Wan Ho( or Wan Ho Shon, don't know which is his surname/family name).

Your posts have always been mostly informed and fun to read as well. I'd just like to emphasise a point here:

The thing about walkovers, retirements, partisan/prejudiced officials etc is that it threatens the condition of the game. It is about attempts to institutionalise cheating, no matter how well-cloaked or how temporary the actions may be. And this brings the game not just into disrepute - that has already been achieved - it puts the growth of the game at serious risk. The watchdog and custodian of our game, the BWF is quickly achieving an emasculated status.

If you are interested in contributing your thoughts about all this, you can do it on this thread as well:

There are many people had biased mind here (because of their hatred towards the china team), since they are so mindful of those believed stealing, so they could tolerate other people's crime, even murdering.

I would say, the koreans were famous of their dareness and shamelessness to cheat (or even to rob) particularly since their OG 1988.

Compared with korean's dareness to ignore the rules, the Chinese only dare to take advantage within or within the grey area of the rules... But since the Chinese had achieved more, they had more enemies...

There are always biased justice in this world, even serious here...

IMO, the CHN team was well in taking advantage of loopholes of the rules, whilst KOR is well known for blatant cheating.
