Take away the location details and poster's names, a poster talks about India, then another brings in an off-topic comment about China as a reply.

Ajay jayaram, a better player than kashyap is going to face Daren Liew this malaysian open with his just treated abdomen(food poison).
I wish him to come back to his normal game in this new year 2013.

It seems Aswini is playing with pradnya gadre. Till April , she will be partenering Gadre and later she will go on with her old partner Jwala.

Sindhu has huge task against her. Tine in her reback form(?) will have an edge over sindhu.

Why not srikanth be called and given chance to learn and gain experience in superseries tournaments ???.. Talented youngster with huge potential still at back without opportunities...:(

    Padukone’s advice to parents

    Bangalore, January 8, 2013
    http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-sports/padukones-advice-to-parents/article4285407.ece

    Excerpts:

“Leave the kids alone during tournaments and practice. Advice and interference from parents just confuses the players, which is very harmful,” said Padukone, who spoke at a felicitation function for the players from the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy (PPBA) at the Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA) on Monday.

“I request the parents not to pamper or pressurise the children too much; it is best to leave them to learn from mistakes on their own,” Padukone added.

[h=1]Ashwini-Pradnya stun Chinese pair in Malaysia Open Superseries[/h]

    http://www.sportskeeda.com/2013/01/...un-chinese-pair-in-malaysia-open-superseries/

    EXCERPTS:

India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and Pradnya Gadre achieved a stunning result at the Malaysia Open Superseries, upsetting a fancied Chinese pair on Thursday.

The new pair of Ponnappa and Gadre, formed after Ponnappa’s regular partner Jwala Gutta decided on a sabbatical after the London Olympics, shocked the Chinese pair of Ma Jin/Tang Jinhua in the second round in a thriller of a match, 22-24 21-16 21-19. The Indians next face a relatively weaker Indonesian team in the quarterfinals.

Ma Jin and Tang Jinhua won two Superseries events in 2012 and the final of the Korea Open last week. Ma Jin is regarded as one of the finest contemporary women’s doubles players, as she has won nearly every title with different partners.
On Thursday, however, the Indian pair kept its nerve in the pivotal third game. The managed to keep a lead throughout, and even when the Chinese equalised from 13-16 and 17-19, the Indians didn’t lose heart. They converted their first match point.

Earlier, the first game was neck-and-neck. The Chinese had two game points at 20-18 but Ponnappa and Gadre saved both. Eventually, Ma Jin and Tang Jinhua converted their fifth game point, but the confidence of the Indians was so high that they won the second game quite easily.
Tom John, coach of Ashwini Ponnappa, was thrilled about the result. “It’s a good win,” he said. “They have to go on and win the next match too.”

Since Aswini/pradnya does not have separate thread, i have decided to post this article here. We don't even know whether this pair will be going to pair after All England as well as jwala gutta will be there afterwards..

Good news, a credible WD combination. Hope they do well and be consistent.
Talking about Gutta, she should get someone else to partner her.
She cannot expect after taking a long break to continue where she left off.

I think things were not well between Gutta and Ponappa. By the way, yesterdays win was BIG! Great to see indian WD pair in the quarters after long time. Great if they could make it to the semis today.

the ethos of india's badminton is distinstly different from that of China's...so it is difficult for them to be on par in the forseeable future....-

[h=1]Prajakta Sawant's 'malicious' plea devoid of merit: Gopichand[/h]
    http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/repor...icious-plea-devoid-of-merit-gopichand_1791956

    EXCERPTS:

Chief national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand termed the petition filed by shuttler Prajakta Sawant as "false and malicious" in his affidavit submitted to the Bombay High Court here on Wednesday. In her petition, the 19-year-old Sawant, had alleged mental harassment by Gopichand after being refused entry to the all-India national coaching camp in Hyderabad.

"The contentions in Sawant's petition are false, malicious, vexatious and devoid of merit and should be dismissed," said Gopichand in his affidavit.

"It is mandatory requirement as per government guidelines that the chief national coach be a member of the selection committee. The selection is based on merit and performance and no partiality or bias is shown towards any player. The final selection is cleared by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports," the affidavit filed by BAI's general secretary Vijai Sinha said.

On allegations that Gopichand nursed a grudge against Sawant after she requested for her doubles and mixed doubles partners to be changed, the affidavit says, "Partners are chosen by the players themselves. The coach has no role to play in this. The petitioner was a very promising young prospect whom I was grooming since 2009. I bear no grudge or ill will towards her."

Meanwhile, claiming that he and his mother, a administrative member of PGBA, was being harassed by Sawant and her father, Gopichand said, "On several occasions, Sawant and her father had communicated with us making all sorts of wild and reckless allegations. Once Sawant even threatened to commit suicide. The court should look into this."

[h=1]Prajakta case: HC directive to BAI[/h]
    http://www.thehindu.com/todays-paper/tp-sports/prajakta-case-hc-directive-to-bai/article4342674.ece

    EXCERPTS:

The Bombay High Court on Thursday asked the Badminton Authority of India (BAI) to consider Prajakta Sawant’s name for two upcoming international tournaments. The court was hearing the petition filed by Prajakta against chief national coach P. Gopichand alleging mental harassment after she was refused entry into the national camp in Hyderabad last year.

A division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice A.V. Mohta was informed by Prajakta’s counsel Piyush Shah that she had filed an application to the BAI seeking entry into the German Open and All England Open championships along with G. Jwala in women’s doubles. BAI, however, told the court that players cannot directly approach them seeking entry and the association with which they were affiliated, the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) in this case, has to forward the entry proposal.

“Since the last date of entries for these two tournaments is January 29, it would be difficult for the petitioners to get their proposal forwarded by her association. Hence, BAI should consider the entry for both the players by January 29,” the division bench directed.

The court also asked BAI why they wanted to play with her career and with the sport as well. “In last six months, she (Prajakta) has not been allowed to participate in any tournament. The sport is suffering due to this,” observed the court.

The player has also alleged in her petition that Gopichand promoted players from his private training academy. The court has asked the Sports Authority of India to look into the matter and resolve it. The next hearing will be on January 30.

Its interesting that she is going to partner Jwala(No idea what happened to her previous claim that she will be partnering Aswini after her return ). Two big mouths joined together now. Lets see what happens next.

Isn't the entry based on rating? Since Prajakta and Jwala have not played at all in any tournaments, they wont even make the reserve list, right?

Anyway can confirm how this works?

I guess prajacta-jwala pair would be aiming mostly IBL, rather than various superseries'.

Since the court has directed BAI to answer the same, lets wait for BAI's best possible reply in this regard. As jwala is involved here(considering her familiarity in Indian badminton than Prajaktha), i think they might consider their plea and let them play for the upcoming tournament. Lets see, how it goes.

(I don't know still for how many years both of them will move to the court for everything they are involved with BAI???)

    [h=1]Blame BAI for Jwala’s fury[/h]
    http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/Hyderabad/blame-bai-for-jwalas-fury/article4337101.ece

    EXCERPTS:

“I have decided to partner Prajakta since Ashwini Ponnappa has promised to be with Pradnya Gadre till April this year. I did not want Ashwini to break it,” says Jwala.

Sources say she was bluntly told by the BAI to desist from partnering Prajakta.
Why Prajakta as her partner? “I feel sorry for her. I just wanted to help her,” replied Jwala. “I am playing for the love of the game and I am not scared of anything. I will continue to fight the system,” she insists. Jwala also questioned the double standards of the BAI who accused her of not taking part in national events to be considered for national team selections but apply a different yardstick to a select few.

“You cannot have different rules for different players,” she argues. However, BAI secretary K. Ch. Punnaiah Choudary says if Jwala is not picked officially in the Indian team, she can take part on her own and with any partner including Prajakta.

    [h=1]Gurusaidutt and Sindhu clinch titles[/h]
    http://www.thehindu.com/todays-pape...t-and-sindhu-clinch-titles/article4352047.ece

    EXCERPTS:

R.M.V. Gurusaidutt and P.V. Sindhu clinched honours in the men’s and women’s singles in the Vankina Anjani Devi memorial all-India senior ranking badminton tournament at Gopi Academy here on Sunday.

In the men’s final, Gurusaidutt (PSPB) got the better of his teammate and sparring partner B. Sai Praneeth (PSPB) for a 21-17, 21-14 win while favourite Sindhu put it across Arundhati Pantawane (PSPB) 21-13, 21-19 in the women’s singles final.

    image.jpg

Sindhu seemed to be in a hurry in the first game coming up with a series of big smashes which clearly rattled the seventh-seeded Arundhati. It was a high quality display from Sindhu who put on show her trademark cross-court winners and delectable drops.

But, in the second game, Arundhati was more determined and gave a tough fight to the local girl playing on a familiar court where she trains regularly. This was the phase when Arundhati engaged Sindhu in some fine rallies from the baseline to put her on the defensive. However, once Sindhu switched gears making good use of her reach in crunch time there were no escape routes for Arundhati.

The men’s final was of a better standard as the two good friends (both train at Gopi Academy) were engaged in a very close battle. The third-seeded Gurusaidutt and top-seeded Praneeth came up with some telling smashes repeatedly. But what separated Guru from his opponent was his ability to come up with some stunning returns off what looked like clear winners from Praneeth.

Praneeth also had the misfortune of a few line calls going against him at crucial junctures, which seemed to have upset his rhythm. On the other hand, Gurusaidutt came up with the big smashes at the right time to emerge a clear winner.

    The results:

    Men: Final:
R.M.V. Gurusaidutt (PSPB) bt B. Sai Praneeth (PSPB) 21-19, 21-14.

    Semifinals:
Praneeth bt Sourabh Varma (PSPB) 21-17, 18-21, 24-22 ; Gurusaidutt bt K. Srikanth (AP) 1-0 retd.

    Doubles (final):
Akshay Dewalkar (AI) & J. Pranav Chopra (PSPB) bt K. Tarun & Arun Vishnu (PSPB) 16-21, 21-9, 21-15.

    Semifinals:
Tarun & Arun bt Bennet Antony and P.H. Suraj (Ker) 21-11, 21-11; Akshay & Pranav bt Alwin Francis (Ker) & V. Diju (PSPB) 21-19, 21-14.

    Women: Final:
P.V. Sindhu (PSPB) bt Arundhati Pantawane (PSPB) 21-13, 21-19; semifinals: Sindhu bt P.C. Thulasi (Ker) 21-13, 9-21, 21-16; Arundhati bt Sanyogita Ghorpade (AI) 21-9, 21-16.

    Doubles (final):
    Pradnya Gadre (AAI) & G. Ruthvika Shivani (AP) bt J. Meghana (AP) & Rituparna Das (WB) 8-21, 21-17, 21-18; semifinals: Meghana & Rituparna bt R. Jamuna Rani & R. Leela Lakshmi (AP) 21-11, 21-18; Pradnya & Ruthvika bt P.V. Sindhu (PSPB) & P.C. Thulasi (Ker) 21-14, 21-14 .

    Mixed doubles (final):
    Akshay Dewalkar & Pradnya Gadre bt Arun Vishnu & Aparna Balan 17-21, 21-10, 21-18; semifinals: Arun & Aparna bt T. Hemanagendra Babu & J. Meghana (AP) 19-21, 21-16, 21-16; Akshay & Pradnya bt K. Nanda Gopal & Sanyogita Ghorpade 21-10, 21-18.

Its interesting to see P.V.Sindhu playing doubles with P.C.Thulasi. But they were beaten by Pradnya and Ruthvika(another 14 year old upcoming women's singles player) in semifinals. Saina didn't participate.

[h=1]Commonwealth gold medallist Gutta debuts on silver screen[/h]
    http://www.badzine.net/news/commonwealth-gold-medallist-gutta-debuts-on-silver-screen/23376/

    EXCERPTS:

After her exploits on badminton court, ace Indian shuttler Jwala Gutta is now making her foray into the tinsel town and she will be seen shaking a leg in a dance number for a Telugu film titled 'Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde (GJG)'.

Known for her spirited performance on court, Jwala, who is the reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallist, is now shooting for a dance number in a film, which stars her good friend and actor Nithin.

"Nithin and the producer are my good friends and they told me about this song. I thought they were kidding but after I heard the song, I thought why not give it a shot after all life is one and I like trying out new things," Jwala told PTI.

"The song is peppy and casual. I was nervous on first day of my shoot yesterday as there were lots of people at the set and it is a different experience. I had to do rehearsals for the steps for a week and it was fun," she added.

Asked if she wants to switch career to films, Jwala, who won the National Championships 13 times until 2010, said, "Badminton remains my first love. It is my life and even if I retire I will work for badminton. But at same time, if there is something new and if I am comfortable with the director and if he has the confidence on me, then I will give it a shot."

Jwala will be shaking a leg opposite Nithin in the film 'Gunde jaari.. Gallantayyinde..!', which is the directorial debut of Vijay Kumar Konda.

The 2011 world champion bronze medallist, Jwala had taken a six-month break after London Olympics but she has already started her training and will make her return to international badminton at the German Open which starts on February 26.

"I have already started training on January 10. Initially it was difficult to get up at 5:30 in the morning but now it has again fallen into place. I am focusing on my strength and fitness," she said.

Jwala will be partnering Prajakta Sawant, who had filed a case against national chief coach Pullela Gopichand at Bombay High Court accusing him of mental harassment.

OMG !!!. God, SAVE ME... ;):D:p:crying:

Hmmm ... what happened in the second set? Loss of concentration?
All her games seems to be going to 3 sets, against unknown and also established players.
At her level she should be packing Thulasi in straight sets unless Thulasi happens to be another Saina in the making :)

Actually, P.C.Thulasi is a good player.. Afterall, she is one of training partner to sindhu. Obviously, there would not be any doubt in knowing the strengths and weaknesses of sindhu. Though, i catch your point.. She need to come out of her mental game. Once she loses some quick early points in the second game, sindhu opts for rubber leaving the second game as such. Saving her energy??? No idea whats going on in her mind though. But, still one month to go for All England.. It should not be like normal practice as if she does earlier. It should be like training her weaknesses alone will also do good to her. Lets see , how it goes for her...
