Creating this thread for them, since they claimed last week Germany open. They beat the newly crowned All England Champion Liu XL/Qiu ZH 21-10, 21-14 there so easily.

They are probably going to win again in the coming Swiss open.

I think this team is very interesting. Obviously, they are very powerful.

But Ultimately, I don't think they have the net/drop skills to be successful against the top teams. Against the top teams that will never lift to them, they will really struggle to get off any smashes.

But if they can learn to control to net and force the opponents to lift, they will be very very dangerous offensively.

i must say everyone in crowd was like "wow, wow, wow" when they smashed. If you sit close to the court, their smashes were really like gunshots.

HW/CB have played only 5 matches in total. They won them all. By examining all the statistics, you can easily find that they outperformed all their opponents in all categories. They had more smash winners than any opponents, and more net winners than any opponents as well.

When HW/CB played with European pair JK/PZ and teammates LXL/QZH, they nailed down 30 smashes and 14 smashes respectively.

When HW/CB played with 2 Japanese pair HS/RT, HE/KH, and Korean pair KKJ/KSR, they didn't have much chances to smash, then HW/CB outperformed Japanese and Koreans on net and unforced errors. They had 20 net winners against world number four, H Endo/K Hay.

Both HW and CB are very agile, they can play comfortably in front or back court.

Some people may argue that if people had played with them longer, then it's easy to figure out how to beat them.

Check the reality again, the biggest win of HW/CB came from the win against Liu XL/Qiu ZH, their teammates. Those 4 players had played together all day, everyday, and know each other to the maximum level. Especially LXL/QZH had just beaten Lee YD/SHK, MBoe/CMog, MAshan/HSetiawan, Endo/Hay, won All England and runner up at Germany. Which implies that if you play more with HW/CB, you will have less chance to beat HW/CB.

Liu XL/Qiu Zh knew HW/CB would smash if given the chance, but still cannot stop HW/CB got a huge edge in smash winner: 14:3. By the way, LXL/QZH lost to HW/CB in net winners too, like all the other opponents did.

    more detailed stats:

Liu XL / Qiu ZH just won the All England open title, while Endo/Haya won the runner up.

Hong Wei/Chai Biao just cruised to 2 one-sided victories over both of them (all All England finalists) so easily at Germany open:

As I predicted, CB/HW will be the next big thing!

Now they won the Swiss open! They are invincible since their debut! No pair can achieve that!

I still want to see how this team would be against teams like Bo/Mo and Setiawan/Ahsan.

I think they still would struggle against the more tactical pairs like that. So far, they haven't had to face anybody like that.

Offensively, there has never been a pair as powerful and dynamic as them. But utlimately may lack the versatility and "soft" skills to consistently win titles.

Having said that, they are still a new pair. And they have much time to hone their tactical play.

No need to go overboard with your enthusiasm like that - I really don't think they'll dominate. They won 2 2nd-class events, and that's pretty good for a new partnership, but you also gotta see that their opponents in Germany were all focused on the upcoming AE while their opponents in Switzerland might have been a little tired still from playing in three consecutive tournaments (going all the way to the final in the AE will take a lot out of you!).

Not saying they won't be good, but with how they played in Germany, I don't think they'll be able to beat the pairs with great net players consistently as those'll be able to take away their attack. And apart from all-out attacking play they didn't have much (also lacking the vision to softly play shots into gaps on court, instead hammering every single shot with full power).
While an exciting pair, I really can't see them beating in-form Ko/Lee, Setiawan/Ahsan, Koo/Tan, Cai/Fu or Boe/Mogensen. All those pairs have one player that is on an entirely different level than both Hong Wei and Chai Biao at the front, and BoMo/KoLee are all better around the net.

I'll certainly look forward to them playing more tournaments this year...

CY/FHY's decade of glory might be ended now

Both Cai Yun and Fu HF were single players, until they were called to play double since Chinese coach Tang Xianhu ended up with nothing in his talents search in double players.

Since 2003, CY/FHF have claimed 1 Olympic Gold, 1 Olympic Silver, 4 World championship titles, 2 Asian games, 4 Sudirman cups, 5 Thomas cups, 3 All England titles,.. , outachieved and outperformed any and all men's doubles in the past decade, including
Kim Dong moon / Park Joo bong
    Candra Wijaya / Sigit Budiarto
    Lars Paaske / Jonas Rasmussen
    Markis Kido / Hendra Setiawan
Lee Yong dae / Jung Jae sung
Choong Tan Fook / Lee Wan Wah
Koo Kien Keat / Tan Boon Heong
.... any and all other men's doubles, no one even came close in stats.

now they are 33 years old, still trying to play 2016 at Rio, until all mighty CB/HW advent, not only the advent of CB/HW, also LXL/QZH's advent. now Chinese team would not invest on CY/FHF any more.

Sorry for CY/FHF, China can only send 2 pairs. Their 10 years of glory might be ended soon.

One player's "in form" also equals to his opponent's "out of form". There's no excuse called "in form".

Count how many pairs have won All England? CY/FHF 3 times, Lee YD twice, Bo/Mo, KKK/TBH 1 time. No other pairs have won any yet!

Count how many pairs have invincible records? none!

Based on these, LXL/QZH and CB/HW are already great pairs, and they are young, up and coming. All the other winners, including CaiY/FHF, LYD, KKK/TBH, Mo/Bo are losing their forms.

I'm even not talking about the next tournament, I was talking about the next few years. Whom you can bet on?

Great discovery by the Chinese MD coaching department.

Both CB and HW have not done that well with other partners before, not just in MD but in XD. But together they looked great.

The Men doubles competition is getting more interesting.

Remember when CY/FHF first appeared in the MD circuit, they caught everyone off guard with their speed and power. They seemed to be unbearable. Then teams found way to slow them down like how Kido/Setiawan beat in Olympic. Then FHF improved his defense, and they also put a lot of varieties in their game. I think they are really unbearable after Olympic 08. Obviously CB and HW's defense still need a lot of improvement like FHF. Other teams should be able to find way to deal with the one dimensional power offense. If they can add more dimensions to their game like CY/FHF, they should dominate MD in a few years.

Totally awed by their attacking.....ok some of you mentioned they don't have the "soft" skills but who need soft skills when they are thundering down smashes with accuracy left, right n centre !!!

Thundering down smashes will only be possible if their opponents always lifting the shuttle up for them. In order for their opponents to lift up shuttle, CB/HW has to force their opponent to do so. This is where those so called "soft skills" will come into the picture.

Since it is Hong Wei/Chai Biao's thread, anyone mind to provide any profile of them? How old they are, etc.
    Thanks in advance.
