i know the other sports Tennis has a peak stringing season. when spring comes the business picks up as many poor fellas are snowed in for the winter.

but from looking at my own stringing log, i am surprised to find that my business also has a peak in Feb/March. i only strung all of 5 racket in Nov/Dec (partly due to being on vacation most of Dec), but Jan/Feb i see an avg of 17 stringjob and so far in Mar I already have 15.

similar thing happened last year and i ended up stringing 24 rackets in all of March.

do you find similar pattern in your stringing?

Don't know how it is in the US but here in Germany I can see why it would be this way. The club season ends around march so there are many more tounaments.

I would differ the observation from Kwun. On average, I string about 12 racquets a week
    1) season usually effected by the HS badminton schedule. If it is HS badmintons season, I string up to 25 racquets a week.
    2) Tourney season. Once it start, I get extra 4~5 a week
    3) Winter season. String break faster, I get 2~3/week bump during winter.
    4) Yonex introduction season. Every March and Sept when YY intro new racquets, I get extra 4~5/week.

    5) Skiing season. Sorry, no stringing if any of my body part is broken. (Pete, no comment on what got frozen)
5.5) Wife is not happy season. Guess what, shop is closed. Open till further notice...

up to 25 a week totally justifies the Baiardo! you will earn back the cost of the machine within a year.

it looks like this month i will end up around 25 rackets. a MONTH.

In general, it peaks during winter months (Nov to Feb). I think it's mainly due to:

    1. Bad weather force ppl to play sports inside rather than ourside, which means badminton is a better fit than swimming, basketball, tennis, soccer, etc.

    2. Harsh weather condition (cold and dry) tend to be less forgiving for strings.

it is happening again this year. at almost exactly the same time. after a slow January i suddenly got a huge pile of rackets from my clients. one day i went to the local club and came home with 8 rackets to be strung.

which is totally not good as i have now a backlog of 10 rackets. all of which needs to be done by next week. and work work is piling up.

maybe there need to be some advanced planning next year for this seasonality.

Up in Canada, the people i string for i notice bumps during:
October-November (club members come back from summer vacation and want a restring for the sake of it, college badminton season starts)
January - February (people come back from winter holidays so they are rusty + cold weather = lots of string breakage)

summer is slower...but only ramps up when tournaments approach.

I'm averaging 10 string jobs per week for the last ~2 months, definitely more than the start of the badminton season.

    Usually, it's like this:

    May-August: Low Volume
    September-December: Medium Volume
    January-April: High Volume

Since there's not much formal HS/college league matches here in NYC, my peak season is winter / spring season. Due to the harsh weather, there are more players tend to play more when outdoor activity is not an option, and the weather itself make string breaks easily. In addition, a lot of tournaments are scheduled during spring time, so it's logically "time to sharp the weapons". :-D

mine is always happy when it comes to stringing. esp when she is doing the drop off and pick up. coz for some reason the racket gets delivered and the payment goes to the CFO's pocket and i do all the work.

You mean the CFO is happy while the worker bee is getting shafted?

Trust me, when wife is not happy, she is #1 priority. Racquet can wait. On the other hand, if we are in a cold war, that is a good way to piss her off even more.

I'm definitely saving up for one.....:p

as for peak season, I agree with KWUN. Picks up Jan Feb and March.....slow in summer and then picks up again when HS season starts here in Arizona.

But then, I can stay busy all year long stringing my own racquets too.....:D
