    Looks pretty epic.

love the integrated seamless shape. there will be very little chance of the string catching on the machine body.

the integrated soldering iron and the touch screen is also quite cool.

    the price must be astronomical.

    What's the soldering iron for?

I am not into the electronic height and angle adjustment. I far prefer a manual type for those adjustments. Just potentially fewer electronic parts to go wrong.

I have my name on this machine...and Victor International knows it. And the tricky bit is finding the cash to pay for it. However, they aren't ready to sell it yet so I have plenty of time.

I've been watching this machine for ages and would dearly like to be stringing at All Englands on this machine in 2015. Problem is Mark will be fighting to get on it first!

After about a year and a half of usage (and a couple thousands of string jobs), I can say that the machine is nicely built and I've had almost no problems with it. The tensioning system is very nice, quiet and smooth and the turntable/supports are rock solid! Stringing on my 6004 now feels more like a burden compared to the VE-80!

So far, I've had two problems, one I'd consider as minor and the other as major. The minor problem was that one of the clamp bases broken from usage after 6 months. It was still usable, but I could not use the gravity release system (the pin under the base went through the small metal wall that was blocking it from going too far). I think was probably just a defect, since I've been sent a new one and it's been working fine ever since.

The major problem is that the tennis clamps are worthless. They keep loosening constantly so I have to readjust them a couple times per stringjob. That's right, they loosen enough in a single stringjob for the strings to slip and get damaged. It is a major problem, because you'd expect a machine as expensive as this one to come with premium clamps. Also, the clamp posts have a 12.3 mm diameter, which means you can't really use better clamps from other companies.

I've been talking with them for about a year about this issue, they have sent me new clamps twice and they all had the same problem. The good news is that their support is good, but the bad news is they confirmed that I would have to deal with the problems as they will not have better clamps made.

Trying to find a solution to solve this problem, because without this problem, the machine would be pretty much perfect.

12.3 mm clamp stems... the cynic in me wants to slap them for such an obvious lock-in tactic.

But Yonex are even worse - they use different clamp stems from one machine of their own to the next!

    2½ years definitive verdict:
    • Tennis Clamps are absolute crap, they will not make better ones
    • Clamp bases are very flimsy. I have to repair them every couple months
    • Still wish the tool tray on the machine was slightly bigger. It barely fits the size of our tools, but with the pivot drawers under the machine, it is still easily manageable.
    • The machine does not do increments of 0.1 or even 0.5 lbs. Their excuse was that there is not enough memory (like memory isn't dirt cheap). For the people who believe that 0.1 lbs makes a huge difference, it is a big let down to tell them we can only do whole lbs.
    • Other than that, the machine works very well and I haven't had any other problems with it yet. Height/Angle mecanisms still work perfectly.
I also own an Alpha Ghost 2 and I think the Alpha Ghost is much better value for your money. Both machines are made by the same OEM. The VE-80 is nicer, but it costs more than twice the Alpha Ghost. At that price, you expect a machine to be absolutely flawless and support/replacements to come instantly without any hassle to justify the price. In this case, the price is not justified.

Please note that the comments about the tennis clamps, base clamps and tension also apply to the Victor VE-50 as they use the same clamps and base clamps.

Hi, Yan, i went to your store in Queen Mary, and it's the Alpha ghost that you have in Queen mary. Do you think that the Alpha ghost is better made?
