Sun Yu (Guangdong) vs He Bingjiao (Jiangsu)

After watching the video, I must say Sun Yu played with renewed vigour, high intensity and good pace to beat HBJ in two straight sets, and I noticed HBJ was panting a bit trying to keep up. Though LYB has already announced three choose two for CHN WS Rio selection, effectively ruling out SY, at the post-match courtside interview she thought she still has chances but acknowledged the need to adopt the right mental attitude and have confidence in herself while admitting her three seniors, LXR, WYH and WSX, are more experienced than her.

You're right. In fact, the night before the match, he had signs of diarrhoea. However, next morning he said he was all right and was fielded in the lineup but in the afternoon, he began to run a fever. The head coach for Qingdao, Li Weiguo, noticed him feeling uncomfortable and a bit dizzy, therefore suggested to him not to take part but Lin Dan replied that the tickets for the night's matches were already sold out and the fans would be very disappointed if he didn't play, and insisted on going ahead with the match.

Some interesting results for the ties played on Christmas Eve, 24th Dec http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2015-12-24/doc-ifxmxxsp6873756.shtml

Qingdao Capital Airline 4:1 Hunan Jiangwan Group---
LXR (Qingdao) only needed 15 mins to dispose of a certain Chen Huilin, 21-4, 21-10 whereas Lin Dan required three sets, dropping the first, 18-21,21-18 and 21-13, to get the better of the youngster, Zhou Zeqi (17/18/19? years old).
The Luo sisters playing for Qingdao won in two sets against Hunan's WD featuring Tian Qing with Jia Yifan (who perhaps replaced the injured Zhao Yunlei?).

Xiamen 5:0 Guangdong Century City (not to be confused with another Guangdong Qiao Xing team) --
Wang Yihan (Xiamen) was stretched to a 1 hr 10 mins long hard battle by Sun Yu (of GDCC) for a narrow victory, 23-21, 13-21, and 21-18. In MS, Chen Long (Xiamen) was rested, fielding Tian Houwei who beat his GDCC opponent in two sets (opponent's name and score not given).

Guangdong Qiao Xing Group 4:1 Jiangsu Nantong Sanjiang --
Surprisingly, He Bingjiao (Jiangsu) was beaten in a three-setter by a certain Zheng Yu (Guangdong), 7-21,21-13,and 21-11.
Shi Yuqi scored the only win for Jiangsu, overcoming Wang Zhengming (Guangdong) in two straight sets (score unavailable).

Zhejiang Jingti 4:1 Benxi Zhihui Shuicheng (aka Liaoning) --
Zhejiang's 17-yr-old Chen Yufei won in convincing fashion over her older opponent, Wang Siyi,21-9,21-14.
Lin Guipu(Zhejiang) also prevailed in two straight sets over his opponent(name not given).

[Sorry for not posting most of the doubles results as they are often not the regular pairs we know or heard of, so I thought it won't be of any interest to most of us here - Justin]. Note that the participating teams representing the various provinces or municipalities would usually comprise the names of their (new) sponsors in addition to the original location names, eg Qingdao in this 2015/2016 CBSL edition is named Qingdao Capital Airlines (Qingdao Shoudu Hangkong) whilst its previous name was Qingdao Hezhan Renzhou during the 2014/2015 CBSL edition. That's my understanding, CMIIW.

Notice that there are only eight teams participating in this 2015/2016 edition of the CBSL. Just in case you're not aware, for this CBSL edition, there happened to be two main sponsors for the entire league, namely Victor and Yonex, which explains why Lin Dan whose personal sponsor is Yonex could participate this time round whereas he wasn't allowed to play for Qingdao previously (the 2014/2015 edition) when Victor was the only main sponsor for the league.

Thanks, so Zheng Yu is only 19 years old and Zhou Zeqi 18+. Glad to see Shi Yuqi and Lin Guipu coming up in good time; the same goes for He Bingjiao and Chen Yufei.

Some results of the ties played on 26th Dec http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2015-12-26/doc-ifxmxxsp7013734.shtml

Xiamen Defang 4:1 Qingdao Capital Airlines(Shoudu Hangkong) --
Again, Xiamen rested Chen Long, so did Qingdao rest Lin Dan who reported sick. Looks like they are avoiding each other.
In WS, Xiamen's Wang Yihan was clinical in disposing of Qingdao's Li Xuerui in 34 mins by the score of 21-7 and 21-15.
In MS, Tian Houwei (Xiamen) won in three sets against Qiao Bin (Qingdao), 21-19,11-21, and 21-15.
The Luo twin sisters, Luo Ying/Luo Yu, won the only point for Qingdao, after tasking the 1st game 21-15, their Xiamen WD opponents, Tang Yuanting/Bao Yixin, retired before the start of G2 (no reason stated, hopefully not due to one of them injured).

Hunan Jiangwan Group 3:2 Jiangsu Nantong Sanjiang ---
In WS, Jiangsu's He Bingjiao won in two straights over Hunan's Zhu Conglin, 26-24 and 21-16.
Shi Yuqi (Jiangsu) is on a roll, this time beating Zhou Zeqi (Hunan), 21-16 and 21-10.

Zhejiang Jingti 4:1 Guangdong Qiao Xing Group --
Chen Yufei (Zhejiang) fought a fierce battle with Guangdong's Zheng Yu, in the end CYF prevailed in three sets, 21-19,19-21, 21-16.
Lin Guipu won again in two sets for Zhejiang (opponent's name not given).

Benxi Zhihui Sanshui Cheng (aka Liaoning) 3:2 Guangdong Century City(Shiji Cheng) --
Sun Yu (GDCC) continued her impressive run winning in two straight sets over Wang Siyi, 21-10 and 21-11 in just 32 minutes.
In MD, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen(Benxi Zhihui Sanshui Cheng) won decisively in two convincing sets, 21-11 and 21-15, against GDCC's Zhyang Zhijun/Ren Xiangyu.
Xue Song (GDCC) needed only 27 minutes to overcome his Liaoning opponent, Zhang Weiyi, 21-5 and 21-15.

Thanks for posting. The 18-yr-old Zhou Zeqi played very well, his best probably, until G3 when he couldn't close the gap at the mid-game interval, became anxious and lost his ability to keep up. Lin Dan, on the other hand, was error-prone, dropped G1, equalized with G2, and cut down his unforced errors in G3 to close out the match.

Clearly, every single one of Lin Dan's opponents, no matter who they are, will go all out, try anything and do everything to beat him,and would probably have watched his videos countless times and studied his games inside out. Apparently, Lin Dan mostly relied on his vast experience to beat the majority of his opponents, but when facing the very best, esp his main rivals, or occasionally the lesser players who came well prepared and determined to catch him off-guard, he really got to raise his game and step up to the plate. To do that requires hard work and dedication, no shortcuts , no substitutes.

Some results for the 29th Dec ties http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2015-12-30/doc-ifxmxxsp7272250.shtml. Once again, both Chen Long and Lin Dan rested.

Xiamen Defang 5:0 Benxi Zhihui Shan Shui Cheng (aka Liaoning) --
In XD, Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin (Xiamen) used only 24 mins for an identical score of 21-9 victory over their relatively unknown opponents,Guo Kaiyi/Zheng Yuwen(Liaoning).Btw, LC/BYX is one of the few regular pairs we've seen in the international circuit that is also playing in the CBSL, most of the other doubles pairings, whether XD,WD or MD, are not.
In WS, Wang Yihan had little trouble disposing of Wang Siyi, 21-10,21-15.

Qingdao Capital Airlines (Shoudu Hangkong) 5:0 Jiangsu Nantong Sanjiang--
Both Lin Dan and Li Xuerui rested.
In place of LXR, Hui Xirui stood in and managed to overcome He Bingjiao (Jiangsu) in a close three-setter after 1 hr 1 min of play, 21-23,21-19,21-18. Surprisingly, HBJ after her remarkable albeit narrow victory over WYH, has not been doing well so far; this was her third defeat after losing to Sun Yu and Zheng Yu.
In MD, Qiu Zihan/Liu Xiaolong for Qingdao, another regular pair, scored an identical 21-19 two-set win against the scratch pair, Cai Yun/Zhang Sijie of Jiangsu.
In MS, Qiao Bin in place of Lin Dan, needed three sets to narrowly beat the Jiangsu youngster Shi Yuqi.

Hunan Jiangwan Group 4:1 Zhejiang Jingti --
Chen Yufei scored the only victory for Hejiang winning convincingly against Hunan's Zhyu Conglin, 21-10 ,21-15.
In the battle of the two young guns in MS, Zhou Zeqi (Hunan) prevailed over Lin Guipu (Zhejiang) in two straight sets, 22-20, 21-7.

Guangdong Qiaoxin Group 2:3 Guangdong Century City (Guangdong Shiji Cheng)--
WS Sun Yu continued her good run winning decisively against Zheng Yu (GDCC),21-10,21-14.
In MS, Xue Song and Wang Zhengming battled for 60 mins going the full distance, in the end Xue Song came out on top, 21-17,19-21,21-16.

[FYI, originally , Lee CW was supposed to play for GDCC but he pulled out, preferring instead to play in the Indian Badminton League where he was offered USD100K for just two weeks' work as opposed to the CBSL which is spread over a few months.- Justin]

It's sad how you have under-appreciated Lin Dan's performance....'cut down his unforced errors in G3 to close out the match'....is that all, really????For me, He totally bossed ZZ in G3...Zhou Zeqi was giving his everything and even his tightest net shots were returned with interest....For a player who is 3 years past his peak and a year past his prime....He recieves a 10/10 from me(in that deciding set)

That it appeared so to you is because I expected more from Lin Dan, and the Lin Dan of 2015 is a far cry from the Lin Dan I knew. If Lin Dan could perform at or near his best this year, 10/10 to use your mark, I'm pretty sure his 12 defeats for the year would be reduced to at most one or two, and that on his off day.

So, to come back to that match with Zhou Zeqi, for G3 I'd rate LD's performance 8/10 the most. Yes, in the first two sets, he was error-prone, and in the decider he cut down on his unforced errors but his level is still nowhere near his best; imagine, if ZZQ's defence and counterattack were top-notch, the score would be much closer. That's just my humble opinion.

You know, whenever I come across any of his past videos on youtube for the period, say 2007-2012, or even for the 2013 WC or 2014 AG, I can't help but sigh to myself and ask, when will I see Lin Dan playing like that again. Frankly, I am actually waiting with bated breath to see Lin Dan soar again come March 2016 beginning with the All England and all the way to Rio 2016. Yes, I'm still hopeful - right on!

Some results of Round 9 ties played on 2nd Jan 2016 http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2016-01-02/doc-ifxneept3559212.shtml

Zhejiang Jinti 2:3 Qingdao Capital Airlines (Shoudu Hangkong)--
Qingdao rested Lin Dan and Li Xuerui.
WS Hui Xirui (Qingdao) won emphatically 2:0 (21-16,21-6) against Pan Lu(Zhejiang).
MS Qiao Bin won for Qingdao in a hard-fought three-setter over AZhejiang's Guo Kai, 19-21,22-20,21-16.

Jiangsu Nantong Sanjiang 1:4 Xiamen Defang--
Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin drew fist blood for Xiamen, easily despatching Jiangsu's Kang Jun/Cheng Su,in a mere 28 mins, with an identical score of 21-13.
Chen Long made his appearance for Xiamen but he needed three sets to overcome Jiangsu's Lu Guangzu,21-11,19-21,21-11.
Wang Yihan(Xiamen) rested, Yao Xue taking her place while Jiangsu fielded Wang Shixian. The two female protagonists fought a 48 mins battle, and finally WSX prevailed in a well-fought three-setter, 21-13,16-21,21-14.

Guangdong Century City (Shiji Cheng) 2:3 Hunan Jiangwan Group--
Sun Yu won decisively for GDCC in two straight sets, 21-13,21-12, over Zhu Conglin (Hunan).
Just as convincing was GDCC's Xue Song in disposing of Zhou Zeqi (Hunan),21-14,21-10.

Benxi Zhihui Shan Shui Cheng (aka Liaoning) 2:3 Guangdong Qiaoxin Group--
Guangdong's youngster WS Li Yun beat Wang Siyi, 21-8,21-15.
Also Guangdong's Wang Zhengming was victorious over his Liaoning opponent,Liu Kai,21-12 and 21-19.

Some R10 results played on 5th Jan'16 http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2016-01-06/doc-ifxneept3758873.shtml

Xiamen Defang 4:1 Guangdong Qiaoxin Group--
Wang Yihan(Xiamen) had a relatively easy win against her young opponent Li Yun (GQXG) in two straight sets, 21-14,21-13 in 37 mins. FYI, Li Yun (18 yrs old?) was just promoted to the CHN National 1st Team only a couple months ago.
Xiamen fielded Chen Long again and he vanquished Song Ran Ren in 35 mins, 21-14 and 21-12.

Guangdong Century City (Shiji Cheng) 2:3 Qingdao Capital Airline (Shoudu Hangkong)--
Qingdao's Li Xuerui and Lin Dan were not fielded.
Instead in WS, Hui Xirui (Qingdao) took on GDCC's Sun Yu - a fierce 1 hr 19 mins battle ensued and went the full distance, eventually Sun Yu prevailed in three sets, 23-21,20-22,21-12.
In MS, Qiao Bin replacing Lin Dan for Qingdao won a close fight with GDCC's Xue Song, 23-21,21-15.

Benxi Zhihui Shan Shui Cheng(aka Liaoning) 4:1 Hunan Jiangwan Group--
Lianoning's Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen plyed well but still needed three sets to bet the better of Hunan's Chai Biao/Zhang Wen, 11-21,21-16,21-19.
Gao Huan playing for Liaoning had a tough, narrow victory over Hunan's Zhou Zeqi, 21-19,22-20.

Zhejiang Jinti 5:0 Jiangsu Nantong Sanjiang--
Wang Shixian (Jiangsu) vs Chen Yufei (Zhejiang) was a 1 hr 16 mins tussle, with the 17-yr-old Chen Yufei coming from behind to emerge triumphant in a hard-fought three-setter, 22-24,21-14,21-18. Chen Yufei is a remarkable fighter.Remember CYF previously overcame Jiangsu's He Bingjiao who in this return match was replaced by WSX.
A clean sweep for the Zhejiang team over the Jiangsu team.

Interestingly,so far He Bingjiao beat Wang Yihan, and Chen Yufei beat Wang Shixian, albeit narrowly in hard-fought three-setters in both cases. A sign of things to come in CHN WS ?

Only Li Yun of Guangdong Qiaoxin, the other youngster who was recently inducted into the National 1st Team, failed to upset first Li Xuerui and then Wang Yihan ,instead she was drubbed in two straight sets on both encounters.

Worth noting is that Sun Yu is in fine form , winning all her CBSL matches, most of them in two sets including her victory over HBJ, so far. Already 10 rounds played for the home and away ties, if I'm not wrong, there are four more rounds to go before the semifinals. Till now, Sun Yu of Guangdong Qiaoxing has yet to play any of the top three CHN WS, namely LXR,WYH and WSX - in the match with Qingdao's LXR, it was Li Yun who was fielded; again in the match with Xiamen's WYH, it was Li Yun. I'm quite surprised the GDQX coach chose Li Yun instead of Sun Yu to play LXR and WYH on those two occasions. Hope to see SY pitted against any or all of them in the following rounds as I'd like to see SY raise her game another level.

WYH beat the wrong Jingjing (Sao Jingjing) easily today. How I wish the real Jingjing, Emperor Shih Huangdi's descendant, 秦金晶 ( Qin Jingjing) continues to play badminton, for her province or club at least. I am always fascinated by her quite rare surname and her sweet young face besides her reasonably good badminton. :)

P/s That part about her being a descendant of Emperor Shi Huangdi is just a joke.

Li Yun is another great fighter judging from her match against Shen Yaying in Mexico, but the way she clenched her fist and walked around the court after scoring every point may not endear her to her detractors if she reaches the top. Hope it will not be interpreted as arrogance just like CM's shrieking.

The Chinese call the first Emperor of China Qin Sih Huang , but his surname is not necessarily Qin. Some people say that his clan name is Zhao as in Zhao Jianhua. My 2 cents of Chinese history.
Sad that Qin Jingjing is not even taking part in the Lingsui China international challenge.
