Excluding Iskandar, Zii Jia, Chi Wing and Joo Ven, I don't really know any player at all.

Well, certainly hope for badminton to flourish in Poland as well :)
Is Beirun city the place with the most badminton player in Poland?

In fact there was also the best Polish pair Milosz Bochat & Adam Cwalina seeded in MD #1 but unfortunately they have withdrawn. This Polish pair is relatively strong. For example this combination (the older, Cwalina, was playing earlier with Michal Logosz, then with Przemyslaw Wacha; Bochat is much younger, not so experienced) defeated this year Lu Ching Yao & Yang Po Han (TPI). So the favorite is now probably a German pair.
It is not a big tournament so you cannot find top players. In MS, WD and XD I see some players from India. Also some young Danish and English players will participate.

This is not the biggest tournament in Poland. In March 2017 in Polish capital city Warsaw was Yonex Polish Open (International Challenge, 20,000 US#) with the results in single finals: Tan Jia Wei (Malaysia) — Ygor Coelho (Brazil) 21-13 20-22 21-10 and Yui Hashimoto (Japan) — Lee Ying Ying (Malaysia) 13-21 21-19 21-10.
Bierun is not a big city and not the strongest centre of badminton in Poland but with a quite good badminton tradition. In 2015 Bierun also organized Polish International and in the MS final Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin defeated Anders Antonsen.

In any case, I hope it can prosper and give great matches to the crowd. Cheers.

Nice to see Lithuania, Slovakia, Wales, Norway etc :). How come countries like South Africa, Mauritius, etc aren't too widely seen these days?

This is European circuit, mostly the European countries will join.

If you looking at Uganda International Series/Cameroon International, you will see Mauritius, Cameroon, Jordan, Egypt, Zambia joining that tournament.

They will join the tournament suitable for their players. Once they have a great talent player, we may find them compete in higher level tournament as well.

Iskandar lost in straight sets. He is unreliable at most. Kudos to his opponent.

Yes, he lost to the best currently Polish single player Michal Rogalski who had recovered from an injury.

Did Poland also participate in the previous Sudirman Cup?
I know that many countries did not participate/withdrew from this year event due to distance and cost,
really hope the event to get back to Europe though to ignite more sparks again here.
It has been to long that the tournament is held in Asia for the last decade (also with T&U)

Last time Poland participated in the Sudirman Cup in 2011 (finished 19th). The best result was in 2007 (11th) when the Polish team won in Division Two vs Russia 4:1, vs Netherlands 3:2. In the deciding tie in the subgroup Poland was leading 2:0 vs Japan but lost 2:3. Japan defeated after that Singapore 3:2 and was promoted to Division One. Poland defeated Chinese Taipei 3:2 and finished 11th.

Yes, Japan was but finally was promoted after the victory over Singapore. Before they defeated Poland:
Keita Masuda & Miyuki Maeda vs Robert Mateusiak & Nadiezda Kostiuczyk (Zieba) 20-22 21-18 19-21, Shoji Sato - Przemyslaw Wacha 11-21 17-21, Mizuki Fujii - Agnieszka Wojtkowska 21-9 21-7, Shuichi Sakamoto & Shintaro Ikeda - Michał Logosz & Robert Mateusiak 21-16 19-21 21-16, Kumiko Ogura & Reiko Shiota - Kamila Augustyn & Nadia Kostiuczyk 21-17 21-15. Old times...

And then, to be precise, Poland beat Taipei 3:1 (not 3:2 as I wrote before).

With Zii Jia's win 21-16, 21-11 win over David K. Kristensen, it will be an all MAS-final in MS.
Soong Joo Ven vs Lee Zii Jia.

Ayeah, I forgot that Poland had Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Zieba.
What happened since then? Will Poland national team join another Sudirman Cup in the next years?
