Lol, you finally made an appearance. I almost thought you were Korean by ethnicity, since you're always hanging around you know which players' forums. This is what happens to a request for more Cookies. Another Ayane thread .
"True" badminton fans would have noticed this girl a long time ago. Now, Ayane Kurihara is finally becoming a true badminton player.
Wow... never noticed her before but she and her partner in XD very soundly trounced Ko/Kim to break the 2-2 team tie to help JPN win over KOR in Sudirman cup SF! Amazing all around player, whether front, mid, or back. Looking forward to seeing more of her!
Definitely helps that she's easy on eyes too Her front court reading is quite exceptional. Their results at Sudirman cup is surprising to say the least, and certainly seem promising for an essentially scratch pairing. Given enough time I see them placing quite comfortably in the world top 20, but at the same time the surprise scratch pairing factor will also wear off. Opponents are going to get to study them and work out a game plan. While I certainly hope to see more of this pair around, I doubt they'll be able to get enough ranking points to make the olympics over the currently higher ranking pairs.
She will team up once again with Kazuno at the US GPG. Given how poorly the other Japanese XD pairs performed, it wouldn't be hard to become the top Japanese XD pair for the Olympics. It is still too early to tell how Kurihara will fare in XD. By BWF's records, before the Sudirman Cup, She played a total of 6 XD matches, 5 of them in 2015 and one in 2008. She will also pair with Shinoya at the US GPG. Hope Shinoya will have recovered from her injury then.
The Japanese coach's reaction to Kurihara's cross court smash was a real classic: In case you missed what happened:
Anybody got the down-low on Arisa Higashino? She really impressed me, and I love her jump smashes! It would be great to see her progress (already hoping for a Chae/Higashino final in Tokyo).
Nice to see Kurihara's old partner Naru Shinoya playing again! Knocked off the No 6 seed in XD today at the World Championships and looked sharp in the process.
Yep. Although XD is not generally Japan's forte, Yamashita/Shinoya have potential. It helps that they are affiliated to the same corporate team; hence, extra practice time together.
