I remember the bit in 1992 when they both fell to the ground to retrieve shots from the Sidek doubles, one after another.
Yup, falling to the ground have always been part of doubles play, since the '60s. I dare say, if we take note of statistics on rallies where people fall to the ground, rallies are won by those who fell are at least 50% of total ......
Eddy Hartono 'Belly dancing' victory dance Who can forget the 'belly dancing' victory dance of Eddy Hartono? after they defeated the sidek brothers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fTYhdVpz6g&feature=related @4.37
Yup, Rudy Hartono commented before the match that if MAS were to lead 2-0, MAS would win but if the scores are tied 1-1 after 1st doubles, INA has the upper hand. Jalani was having fever, Razif had to cover, out of energy in 3rd game. That was the one moment in the stadium that we thought the tide would turn, but fortunately Foo Kok Keong managed to beat Alan. Surprised me too, 'cos Foo was totally outplayed by Wu Wenkai in the semis tie.
Rexy owed a lot to Christian.....the reason was because of Christian, Rexy got picked up to Pelatnas ( Traning Centre)...Rexy really admired him...
Christian is like one of the badminton godfathers in indonesia..he dedicated himself almost all of his lifetime for indonesian badminton.Hopefully someone next could fill his huge shoes..iya ga,ko huang??
did anyone do a similar 'summary' video like this for the other thomas cups? i'd be keen to watch any others available.
Jst wanted to point out (perhaps the obvious) how amazing sigit is...after watching this video, my attention got caught by the 1998 thomas cup video clips featuring candra/sigit vs CTF/LWW. I have to say that sigit is an incredibly amazing net player perhaps even better that he ever was after being charged with drugs. What do you guys think?
For me, regardless of what other think and I respect who you think is the best Frontman. But for me, it has to be Sigit. The way how he play is so charismatic. I think that it'll be hard to find another Sigit. The guy is quick and deadly at the net, and I think we voted for him as having one of the best jump smash as well.
Yes i agree...i think i heard someone saying; a "sigit" only comes around once in a 1000 years a little dramatic i know but isn't it true??
I didn't vote Sigit to be the best front man, but if there is a vote for the most entertaining/best to watch badminton player then he definitely would have my vote. Sigit is a born showman. Every single of his move is just simply amazing.
I am sure that we may see his double players soon play like him....he is still coaching junior players at Djarum club.....
The terible lady commentator for the current Thomas Cup Asia qualifying rounds mentioned on TV that Koo Kien Kiet posted on some internet badminton forum that he was the best Front Man in the world. Anybody knows if this is true (links please) and was this the reason this thread started?
i wonder did she get paid? her commentary was so lousy. if i were the one who hired her for the commentary job, i would ask for a discount or not even paying her. i wish she reads this thread so that she knows how terrible she was.
No offense...but if KKK actually did that, he's just so very VERY sad......people would soon lose respect for him...
It's decidedly strange to see Cai Yun and Koo Kien Keat ahead of Sigit Budiarto What's not surprising is Li Yongbo's place at the bottom of the heap. Not very popular, is he?
