To Han Dear Han, In Malaysia papers quoted that Malaysia Uber Team has qualify to the final based on the the new rules of BWF. Malaysia ranking is better compare to Scotland. From: Ayu
Its is good that the Malaysian team decides to field Goh Lui Ying, Ng Hui Ling and Lydia Cheah in this tournament as the experience will help them to performance better in the future. its is clear that the girls lack of exposure and experience. Lydia have good skills but need to be groom for maturity in the game. Goh Lui Ying and Ng Hui Ling also shown their potential but as in Lydia case they too need more exposure in the senior ground.
yup.. i hope the young one will take the opportunity to play well even though not the best have been filled by HK. I believe in years to come, the Malaysian girls will be the one the world have to look out for.dont u agree.. Kak
The best women junior performer in the qualification rounds so far is Ng Hui Lin. This girl has good vision, brilliant coverage of her partner, and good mix of shots. Could be the next to take over Wong Pei Tty's role. I've always respected Wong's abilities and adaptability (just look at her XD results without any training), had we got two of her, MAS WD would have been up there with CHN consistently. Goh only played well in patches. Lydia is too laidback and easily confused when Yu applied speed. In this case, Anita would have been the better player. If you want to play retriever against a speed demon, send Anita out. Lydia is good only if she dictates the rallies.
To Champion 8 Dear Champion 8, I believe if the team continue to send this badges of players to several tournaments,we will merge as one of the world forces in badminton. From: Ayu
Lydia reminds me of Kuan Beng. No direction and lots of unforced errors. Still a long way from being a good player. She needs to practice a lot to get anywhere - it shows with the errors.
this is where experience comes in. These players are inexperience. bear in mind these are the player just graduated from the junior rank in December. I think Lydia needs more exposure to be consistent. Look at Xing Aiying and Saina Nehwal. Both have been exposured consistently during the last two years ( U can cee both of their names in the Super Series tournament) Both of them almost the same ages as Lydia. Theu are able to handle match temperament better than Lydia. I see potential in Lydia in the future if BAM continue to expose her. As for Hui Ling u r right- she is the best other than Woon Khe Wei in the mixed and double.
Experience is not the main problem with Lydia. She has not developed her thinking game. The coaches and even Lydia herself admitted this, that's why she hasn't been able to achieve better even at Satellite tournament level. There is no argument that Lydia's strokes and attacking play are superior even against the seniors, though her defence is still shaky. In the Malaysian Open, she led Pi Hongyan up to 8-4, before her game started to collapse. She does have potential as an attacking player, probably one of the few who can match the Chinese power game in the future. It was good experience against Yu Hirayama, probably one of the faster non-CHN players in the circuit.
Lydia got the skills. she need the right coach to change her mindset and add more power in her games. IMO, Tatt Meng's coaching style suits her. She is the best among MJs in Women's Single Department. Agreed with champion8, she needs more match exposure.
agreed that Tat Meng would have been a more suitable coach for her as her style of play. This girl need to be more focus and if proper attention are given she will be a great player to watch one day
dont quite agree that she is like Kuan Beng Hong..Seen the better side of her and she has good fighting spirit. Better than most but the best fighting spirit is still Julia Wong.
Lydia's mental strength is weak. She should learn a thing or 2 from Julia Wong. Julia's skills is not pretty but her fighting spirit is unquestionable.
haizz.yesterday julia wong and wong mew choo fought so hard but unfortunately malaysia uber squad lost 2-3 to Japan!.. wat a dissapointment... all the girls are very exausted with their match..
actually all the semi finalist qualified for the final in Jakarta. That is why 2day Malaysia vs Hongkong it is just matter of record. The Hongkong top player left Ho Chi Min in the morning.
Ng Hui lin however need more physical training and needs to slim down abit. She was clearly very exhausted in the rubber, and all shots went wild.... WPT is the fittest WD in our team currently. Good effort with LPS yesterday, nearly upset the jap cuties.
nola, actually yesterday malaysia has not assured of a place in the uber cup only 2day i think MAS had booked their tickets to jakarta..!! becoz 2day MAS had bt HKG 3-0 and finished third in the uber cup preliminaries asian zone and auto matically qualified...a team must finished in the top 3 onli will be automatic qualify to the final at jakarta...
