OMG, the list looks more like SSP event then a SS event.

Where does the KOR top pairs? Is there an event in Korea so that their players absent from the neighbour's event?

I am going to the Saturday session.

Hope to see Cheng Shu / Zhao Yunlei who made a name for themselves five years ago at JO. Not sure how long ZYL can continue.

Hope to see Sun Yu and Aya Ohori too, if they can survive till Saturday.

CL/LCW duel would be nice but that's not going to take place on Saturday.

huh? why should this be an argument? and if, i would think that this argument would result in the opposite: if it's the last edition of the tournament, then everyone should try to attend for the last time ! :)

It might be more to do with the ranking point I think as this is the last edition of the tournament.

Hmm. Taipei and Suzhou seem to be big facilities for the sponsor Victor. Korea has often sent their entire national team to the China Masters and had a little side event with the sponsor in Suzhou. Or perhaps they wanted a better outing for some new pairs in Taipei this time - better than they could have got in Changzhou and Tokyo - and did not want to do 3 events in a row.

The only other thing is that the National Sports Festival, which NO top players ever miss, was moved ahead by about two weeks to avoid clashing with the Denmark Open, presumably because this would have cost the Korean team over $30,000 in fines. The NSF begins 7 days after the end of the Japan Open but many players will be expected to train with partners they don't usually play with: Lee Yong Dae with Cho Gun Woo, Yoo Yeon Seong with Kwon Yi Goo, Ko Sung Hyun with Shin Baek Cheol, Kim Ha Na with Shin Seung Chan, etc.

Stupid me, how could I have missed it? It is Chuseok this week. The #1 family holiday in the nation. I'm sure that's the simpler explanation for the absence of the top players, considering that it is sandwiched between other important events.
