Tommy putting the pressure on Derek. Looks like Derek already running out of ideas - a bit too impatient against Tommy.

Brice Leverdez, who last shocked me by sensationally disposing of K Tago at the Thomas Cup, is threatening to do the same to Son Wan Ho here, having taken the 1st game,22-20.

Did I hear wrongly or the commentators made a mistake? Heard one of them mentioned that Derek Wong is from HK.

Quite a few errors from Derek Wong and some nice shots as well.

Commentator is saying Derek's physical condition can't be very good having had the Commonwealth Games to play in. The Danish team have been preparing 2.5months for the World Championships to prepare and peak specifically.

Derek Wong who started on the wrong footing is slowly getting his act together - G1 is out of reach, he's using it to get himself back into the match.

Derek Wong needs to play a patient game rather than smashing his way through.

There are some good rallies which he constructed in which the smashes are used to build pressure works well against Tommy.

There you go. Derek loses the first three points of the second game being too rushed.

Tommy only has to wait for the opportunity.

You heard him , Richard Kaufman, right, who at the beginning mistook Derek as from HK. Later as he went on about their respective fathers relating to some history at the SEA Games, he might have realized his mistake but didn't correct himself; perhaps he didn't even realized it, I supposed then.

It's going to be interesting how many of the commonwealth games players will get through the first few rounds.

Doesn't look good for Blair/ Bankier. Down a game and 15-12

The Commonwealth games finished more than 20 days ago and should no way be a problem for anyone who played

Little variation in Derek's smashes. Just take a bit of pace off and play the smash steeper. There is no way he's going to hit through Tommy.

Presuming 3 weeks is enough for recovery and disturbance to fitness program. Jetlag is a factor for some.

Tommy is very determined. Running away in the second game as well. Not a good sign for commonwealth games finalist derek.
Gold medal winner , kashyap already out of the championship.

Yeah. Some half smashes, some full powered smashes will help.

Again, Derek smashes but makes limited headway. A steep smash is more effective - will he learn?

They would have had to adapt to European time before the Commonwealth Games and could have stayed on the time zone if they so wished.

A fast drop will work too. Why smashes?

OK, match ends. A fairly disappointing match. Hopefully Derek will learn from this match.
