Correct me if I'm wrong guys, but as I understand you can ask for a shuttle change if you have won the serve. Whether or not it will eventually be changed ultimately depends on the decision of the umpire. And the opponent has the right to object, but ultimate decision is with the umpire.

I have been told that there is a limit to how many you can change which doesn't make sense to me as shuttles degrade with play and it really depends on the game, players etc etc

I have also been told that in a professional tournament, you cannot change shuttles which sounds ridiculous to me. Also, if one would watch any tourneys on TV, you'll see heaps of shuttles change-outs.

Are there any official rules on shuttle change outs ?

It happened a few times that even both sides agreed to change shuttle, the umpire looked at the shuttle himself and asked the play to continue using the same shuttle. The commentators said the organization tried to save money to cut down unnecessary shuttle changes.

    Damn!
That means I can't change the shuttle in the middle of a rally!
