For the retirement in the Final, it is reported due to heart breathing problem in Korean media.

After the MO2010, although the Chinese WS team had lost their dominance, I am sure they will come back even stronger for the Uber Cup.

Does Bae Youn Joo have heart problem before? If yes, I think Korea
coach should be more persistent to ask her player to quit the match
for player's protection. It is pretty pointless to have both coaches walked out of court and let a youngster suffer alone on court.

It was quite a shame she had to leave prematurely...thought she was playing as well as WX; was it really some cardiac condition? she could have some arrthymia and collapsed if she continued...:confused:

    Bae Youn Joo

This girl needs her own thread!
Making some steady progress, but really have to bring down the great Wangs of China in order to win Gold at OG2012. THe Olympics might have come too early for her. If it was within the next two years, she might have had more of a chance.
    What do people think?

i really like Bae Youn Joo... unfortunately, she hasn't overcome her injury in the past 1 to 2 years...

she can't receive drop shot (especially backhand)..

she had so much trouble as WSX has a pretty tight and deceptive dropshot. she is always late and had to reach for it and resulting in a lot of opportunities for WSX

    I find this quite fascinating.
BYJ has beaten WX and WYH previously, but always seem to find WSX a stumbling block.
Really goes to show that certain playing styles are ideal at countering another specific style, but may struggle against other styles.
Yet we seem to to see less of this in the men's events.

    she's at my age.
I think I have a crush on her when I saw her game first time.
She seems quite emotional and perky on the court, which I like to see more.
    She gotta use more backhand

BAE Youn Joo or BAE Yeon Ju. Most likely the latter.

I quite like her playing style but she lacks consistency. At least she beat WSX once.

Technically, she beat Wang the first time they met, too. Even she agrees that doesn't count, though.

As for the spelling, she was one of several Korean players who underwent a one-time change coinciding with the London Olympics. I believe it had to match their passports for them to get accreditation processed. Another wave of these hit around the time of the Asian Games. The new spelling is Bae Yeon Ju. This also matches the official government Romanization system but it wouldn't have to. In the case of Jung Jae Sung, neither 'Jung' nor the updated 'Chung' matched the government suggestion.
