Can Diet affect an Injury ? (inflammation)

    ok first i'll just say this.... this might seem kinda funny but:

    my diet is genearlly pretty good and balanced and this is probably the only varying factor that seems to affect the problem

    everytime I eat instant n00dles or am eating them on a regular basis (once a day ... or once every 2 days) my shoulder tendonitis flares up

    for instance: If i eat an instant n00dle before bed I will wake up with a sore shoulder the next morning... ofcourse sleeping on the shoulder could affect this but my injury is not that severe and i Know that soem nights I sleep on it and in the morning there is no pain.... but everytime I eat one soon before bed I get pain in the morning

    The shoulder in general also seems weaker when I have this in my diet than when I don't ... for instance I could play a tournament on the weekend and training after (4 days of play) and have little pain after .... but when this is in my diet I could play once and my shoulder will get sore and stay sore much sooner and longer


    Does anyone know if starch or preservatives could cause inflammation?

    Instant noodles as well as other processed food are never good for us. There are times where I have to resort to instant noodles for substinance. However, I would include vegetables, BBQ pork and eggs to add more proper nutritional value to my meal. So my instant noodles aren't so instant anymore:p.

    I find that what affects my recovery more is the amount of sleep I get. The less I sleep, the more my injuries linger.

    If you excerise a lot, you need more protein than normal people. If you have not enough, your recovery after excerise will be slower and you will not feel good.

    Yea I try to avoid instant n00dles now as I'm 100% sure that there is something In there that is causing inflammation

    I have also noticed (to a lesser extent) that Coffee does this.... especially if its from Tim Hortons :D ... they must have alot of preservatives in thier coffee and that might be the cause .... You could leave a cup of thier coffee out for 2 days and drink it w/out it tasting bad or making you feel sick

    Is there a pattern as to "when" you eat the instant noodles?

    Example, the nites you eat the noodles just before bed are the days you are training / working late thus not getting enough rest?

    I'd say that perhaps one of the most noticible diet changes is alcohol-- simply put, don't go drinking after playing badminton (assuming it's any better to do so before) because I find that of all things i can consume, alcohol slows my healing process the most. I dont even mean falling-down drunk, just a few beers is enough to slow down my recovery process. Probably because your body spends so much energy metabolizing the alcohol (which it considers poison) that it gets diverted from your self-repair functions.

    Take lots of protein as it helps repairs muscles (about 30g-50g after exercise). After your games/training etc, consume lots of simple (high GI) carbs.... about 50g-80g.
    Proper warming up/down, stretching etc also helps in reducing stiff muscles and sores. Glutamine also helps in recovery. Perhaps you should also try taking Glucosamine for your joints?

    Anyway, it's NOT GOOD to take instant noodles so frequently... worst still before bed! Take low fat milk if you're hungry or if you lactose intolerant, take some fruits before sleeping!
