For the 11th time, Odense hosts this Denmark Open tournament and Odense Sports Park are choosen to form the framework of international sports. Denmark Open recently entered a partnership with sports brand VICTOR who is now the main sponsor for the Danish National Team and for Denmark Open the following four years. Over the next six days, the world's top 32 ranked badminton players in singles (men's and women's) and doubles (men's, women's and mixed) will compete for one of the most prestigious prize money offered in this sport and move a step closer to qualifying for the season finale - the Dubai World Superseries Finals.

Kidambi Srikanth from India has enjoyed a remarkable season. He has made his mark and place himself among the top players, but Danish Viktor Axelsen has looked incredibly strong, winning the World Championships and Japan Open. This time both the most winning men's singles players in 2017, Axelsen and Srikanth are expected to meet at quarter final. Axelsen is trying to defend his world No.1 spot here at his home soil.

Carolina Marin finally for to stand at the top of the podium of Japan Open after having lost three consecutive finals in 2017. Marin will face defending champion, Akane Yamaguchi at quarter final. But we may not forget the magnificent Tai Tzu Ying with her impressive winning streak at the first half of 2017. The young Taiwanese player has dominated this year but others have also done well and we are up for some good badminton.

Both Boe/Mogensen and Gideon/Sukamuljo are back on track as they become first and second seeded pair respectively. The strong Indonesian pair Marcus Gideon and Kevin Sukamuljo were nothing short of superb in the first half of 2017. Since then, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen from China and the Danish Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen breathing down their necks. The crowd here in Odense will without a doubt create a great atmosphere as they're cheering for their number one seeded national heroes Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen.

The only women's double pair to win more than one title so far in 2017 is Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi. On equal terms with both Korean Chang Ye Na/Lee So Hee and Danish Kamilla Rytter Juhl/Christinna Pedersen they've been in three finals, but where the Japanese have managed to win two titles both the Koreans and the Danes have had to settle for only one title each. Meanwhile reigning world champion and currently World No.2 Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan will meet Indonesian new pair Della Destiara Haris/Rizki Amelia Pradipta who was recently won title at Dutch Open last week. We'll see some other new pairs here : Chae Yoo Jung/Kim Hye Rin, Chang Ye Na/Jung Kyung Eun, reunited pair Lee So Hee/Shin Seung Chan.

Mixed doubles World Champion Ahmad/Natsir are back to business after missed last two Superseries tournaments, they may face two Chinese pairs in a road to final four, Zhang Nan/Li Yinhui and second seed Lu Kai/Huang Yaqiong. World number one Zheng Siwei/Chen Qingchen are expected to clear preliminary rounds and will meet Malaysia's No.1 Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing. The Duo Adcock who have possible quarterfinal scenario to challenge reigning Japan Superseries champion and World No.8 Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping at last eight. The defending champion, Joachim Fischer/Christinna Pedersen are absent but Christinna Pedersen will play with new partner Mathias Christiansen.

Actually Lin Dan has taken a great care of his Asian supporters by withdrawing from Odense Open. His first match was scheduled at 2:00 am Delhi time...Like WTF?

Good luck watching Lee Chong Wei at 3:00 am and see how you feel next day.

In the end it doesn't even matter.

But wait, why did Nozomi travel to Denmark if she was determined to withdraw.

    Noooo Nozomi :'(

She said on twitter that her knee has still not completely recovered.... That it's "taking longer than expected".

Since she is not registered for the French Open, there goes her European tourney :/

    Time to split up Tan/Lai.
So disappointing, no chemistry and poor communication, like 2017 Goh/Tan.

Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong was supposed to be split up (temporarily?), but it seems they're playing together all the way this year...
