I will field this question for Sir DinkALot here. I think this is a very difficult question to answer because we have BC/BF members all over the world and cost of string and labor different depend on your location. Also, depend on if you string your racquet or have some one else restring it for you. For example, I get me YY BG80 @ $5 USD and YY BG85 @ $5.50 USD and Ashway MP @$4.75 USD from supplier. Since I string my own racquet w/BG85, that $0.5 makes no difference to me. While in some big sports stores in Canada, the difference between those strings can be more than $5 CAD. It would be unfair to ask our dear Panda to call different store in California to get their prices for different string. He has done a lot of wonderful work for us to put up string comp chart and grip chart for us. Once again, all hail Sir DinkALot!!!
Silenthart, agree with your thoughts. Price is something you have to shop and find on your own. I may be able to get Yonex Nanogy 95 for $9.00, but retail shops sell them for $22.00. Badminton shopping can be fun and challenging.
Thanks for the input as well.. ..hehe, silentheart, appreciate the input..Sorry, actually from my minor request, i was wondering what those prices are, *based only* on what Dan actually purchased(if he still remember what those cost). Just for a comparison purpose. And no, i don't want him(nor wished) him to go and call around other stores in CA or even all over the country.. I totally understand different places will offer different prices etc. or the labor cost will vary from one place to another. But in general, i think, those prices pretty much are "proportionate" world-wide(taken into account those strings sold around the world are the exact brand/model/quality)...Anyhoo, no biggie Dan if it's too much hassle..
I have some Pacific Synthetic BP-66. Do our Panda want to try some? Anyway, thanks for the great review.
Nice Table. I agree with all the comments. Looking forward to the Cab Review even more now! My only query is how do you judge the durability-surely your rackets break before the string is even bedded in? Thanks again.
thank you sir, i do agree that everything is subjective though, but at least we have a good idea what's hot and what's not. i personally haven't used any string extensively other than the yonex ones, but dan's comments are almost spot on for those.
I would recommand some more strings to try out. Yonex BG88ti( a good string IMO) & BG75ti(powerful but lose tension fast) / Gosen Pro66(very good feel and power but no durability) & B505ti(hard to find but can be a very good string) BTW, I agree that ashaway strings have a very good feel and power in the beginning, but they lose tension so fast that you can hardly play with them till they break.
I think for dink's next project; he should review rackets. It would be absolutely amazing to see how it would be done. On a more realistic note, shoes/clothing would be nice.
Nice review sir dink. I always try those string which u have recommend, and i was happy with the performance and sometimes is beyond my expection.
strings Hi Sir Dink, Have u try Carlton Nano Tech AG65? .58mm string. Thanks for yr great review here. Adidas
Ashaway strings Which Ashaway string are you referring to? It would be useful if you were more specific. My experience with Ashaway MP is it holds tension above average and certainly better than BG65. I strung it at 25-26lb. This is consistent with Sir Dink's opinion. I had another Ashaway string (can't remember if it's Flex 21 or Rally) at 22lb and it didn't hold tension as well but lasts more than 1 year and I still can use as spare racket.
Well, it's official for me. I'll continue to update as I play with more string and even replay current string to give more accurate info.
Any string that is not listed, I have either not tried it at all or did not try it enough to form an opinion. I'm more then happy to try every string in existence, but that will take time and money.
Ooops! You are right about the PG66. I'll change it tomorrow... All the strings were tested on my SOTX Woven 7 or Woven 11 at about 26/28.5lbs. or thereabouts. Now my go to racket is a Cab 20 Tour. I will post this information as well tomorrow... How I grade strings: I have to play with at least 3 sets of the same string for over a period of 2-4 weeks (there are a few exceptions such as NBG95). I compare the string with my benchmark string, BG80. I alternate rackets practicing a variety of shots in practice mostly and also during the game. I may train and hit 50 of the same shots with the string and switch to my racket with BG80. Durability is based on clean breaks, mishits don't count.
