Many clubs and halls close or reduce their opening hours during summer. So, do you go elsewhere to play, or do you engage in other activities?

Last summer I played & trained more than ever (strong emphasis on training). This summer I plan to do the same. But on top of that I also try to go out and do as much of everything else as possible. Basically be as active as possible throughout the summer, and then through the rest of the year just work on trying to maintain the form. It might be better the other way around, but I just don't have the time or energy through the rest of the year. I also sometimes wonder if the terrible weather here in Vancouver attributes to it (approx. 10 months of grey cloudy skys without any sun). So I do play more than usual over the summer, but I also engage in a lot of other outdoor activities that I don't do at all through the rest of the year.

Why does it matter what season it is, we're all playing indoors, right?

Yes, but somehalls reduce hours in summer, as the demand is less. Also many clubs use school halls for their playing, so when the schools close over holidays, the clubs stop.

I think most clubs have a reduction in the number playing over summer, either small, or large.

    I just find other venues!

The same thing here in the US, almost half of the gyms close during summer ... and most people are more interested in outdoor sports ...

if i had the opportunity, i'd keep playing as usual. however, because it's summer, i normally go on vacation to out of town places and therefore don't get the chance to play as much baddy.

meteorological related reasons to stop playing badminton.... a severe climate shift that would produce tornadoes, massive storm surges, and deep freezing.... :p

hehehe... its pretty obvious i just saw that movie 'the day after tomorrow'

Lucky enough, I still can get access to several clubs even in summer time. Even though, with no air condition, have to bring 1 dozen t-shirts each time, still try not to miss any sessions. ;)

The Sunday session at Collingwood basically runs 50-weeks a year. The times Collingwood is closed is either for general maintenance (near Xmas) or special events.

    Cheers!

I play more. Due to a summer camp that this local organization that sponsors this camp, we get to play everyday. And we still get to practice in the evening during our regular practice sessions. :) I love the summer.

I have always played through summer for several reasons.

Generally attendance at the clubs is lower so more games ;) and good opportunity to concentrate on improving on yr weaknesses

    To maintain sharpness on court.

I also tend to think that if you can play through hot sticky summers, it makes it easier to cope with tough winter matches.

Mind you I think my knees would rather have a break.

    I play seldom (less) because:

    1. I travel a lot during summer (usually)
    2. The school will "shrink" the badminton schedule (session hours) in summer since there are less people here in summer :(
