    Hi Guys,

Well this is my first post here and I'm new here. Anyway I wanted to ask your opinions. I am getting into the world of badminton photography and wanted to know the right camera and which to get ofcourse it has to be Canon. I currently have a 400D and know that it wont really do the job. Anyway I wanted to ask you guys what would you recommend either the 5D Mark 2 or the 1D Mark 3?

I was thinking of getting the 1D Mark3 but heard about the 1D Mark4 getting released next year 2010. So I wanted to wait for that instead.

So how about the 5D Mark2 is it good enough for badminton photography I mean the speed of the AF? How about the shots? Sorry if I might be missing another thread with sample pictures with the 5D2? Maybe you guys can share me the link?

    Thanks so much,
    JJ

    ^^Hmm..^^

    1. What's your budget?
    2. If you have the budget, of course the 1DMK3 is the one to go for.;)
    3. Technology always improves, so if you get the 1DMK4 next yr, there's a good chance the 1DMK5 will come out later. Will you get that too??
    4. Yup, you can search this sub-forum for related threads. I believe the guys already touched on the 5D.
    5. Lens is a big factor esp. in badminton photog.

    *Btw, welcome to BCDF!

Hey, Thanks for the speedy reply.

Regarding #1 yeah I think the 1d mark 3 is the way to go. But ofcourse I wanted to comapre the badminton results to the 5D Mark 2 if there is no big difference then I would go for the 5D.

    #3 Yeah, you're right. I agree.

#5 I am already ok with my lenses which I invested a few years.

Its just the body that I need. :crying:

The 1D MIII has the AF issues. Check the latest recall by Canon only a few weeks back. Sigh.

5D MII - this is a question that some of us are debating on right now. I suspect that this camera is going to be OK for until you reach the very highest quality level of badminton.

As for badminton pics using 5D or 5D MII, I haven't seen any yet.

Your location is NZL - what sort of level of play are you going to photograph?

what about the ones i showed you? ;)

it is true that i only held one for a few moments, but for the few pics i took, i did find that the AF is adequate though not at the level of the mk3 (FYI, jj, i own a mk3)

Thanks for the reply guys. Tournaments like that. Although this would not be my main focus.

I am not that worried of the AF issues with the 1D Mark 3.

KWUN any pictures you want to share that you took with the 1D Mark3?

    Cheers

I'm using the 5Dmkii now, for its AF is definitely adequate. In fact, I find the AF performance of it to be more responsive, accurate and predictable compared to the 40D.

However, I cannot say the same about its shutter lag. Compared to the 40D which I previously had, its obviously slower. Its slower framerate may post an issue in badminton too. Not really suited for this sort of sport shooting. The 40D / 50D will serve you better for badminton. If you can afford it, the 1D cameras.

Do you resident camera experts have any opinions on camcorders, or is it purely stills that you specialise in?
