I played for a while with Mizuno Incision IN futsal shoes that had zero allowance or "give" in them. As a result my toes got crushed and painful and my footwork suffered---I was no longer as insistent in chasing shuttles. Trust me, the color of my toenails after playing wasn't a pretty sight either.

The shoes were fine for badminton, to be honest. It's just that I bought a poorly fitting pair...my fault, really :p

It happens to me also. My toes hurt on both feet.
BTW after adding more cushions, it will help a lot.
The paint reduce 75%. Now I am planning to buy better shoes.

hi... I've bought a new shoes.
Now I am free from toes pain.
Yes, for sure it's because the shoes.
Pls check if you have good cushion. Also I realized that my previous shoes was little bit tight. Whereas now I have bigger shoes, my feet now have more rooms to move. I think that's the key issue.

It's really important to find a good fit for baddy shoes since they're subjected to alot of abuse around the court. Usually a half size up from your regular shoes should do the trick as your feet grow abit due to more blood flowing through them while you're playing hard on the court than when you're walking.

Depending on how good your footwork is, you might wanna go with more support or rigid type shoes if you need it. Many good players prefer more flexible shoes for comfort.

I am sure that the shoe can play a big factor, but your footwork and the way you do sudden movements may be the main culprit. I am not saying that I have improved my footwork and my game immensely, but battered toenails were a regular occurence for me when I was starting to play badminton, that I learned to go to the parlor just to cover them up :D

Battered toenails and eventually while I was clipping my nails one day... the whole piece of nail came off!... was in shock... that was when I first started playing badminton about a year ago...

Fortunately... it has not happened since :p *LOL*

It just happened to me last week while playing badminton (first time ever). My toe nail broke and it hurts :crying:. It looks quite ugly now, can't put nail polish and can't wear open toe shoes, so sad. It has something to do with the new shoe inserts

Sorry to hear that Jaguar! *hugs* Hope it doesn't hurt as much now.

You know, I wonder if it happens more to ladies or men?

Probably the best thing ever happen. Flip flops are really bad for the feet. I found that out the hard way after strolling around downtown the whole day in one:(.

Although this helps alleviate toe pain there's a caveat to note here also. Having too much give in your shoes might result in your feet sliding inside them, causing your toes to slam into the front end of the shoe's interior.

After I got a good-fitting pair of Mizunos (with a wide toe box and a thumb-width of extra toe room at the end for my foot), this still happened to me in some isolated incidents. Lacing up the upper tightly helps a lot, but doesn't completely eliminate the foot sliding.

If it happens, it happens, I guess :)

I totally agree. That's why 1/2 size up is just a thumb of rule. Some people I know actually went the other way cuz they have to take into account the width of the shoes as well.

Happened to me on Friday -lunging for the net and had my toenail (sufficiently short) caught between the sock fabric and the shoe interior's front end.

Suffice to say the feeling was like somebody jabbing a needle into my big toe.

Yes, as long as you're still alive. Even the dead's would continue growing for a little while.
