    Promoting Badminton for Local Charity

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Isle of Man Badminton Association (in conjunction with Badminton England) are promoting badminton through a fun challenge for charity.

The ‘1 minute rally challenge’ will be taking place at clubs throughout the Island for the next week (until October 29th). The challenge is to see how many times 2 players can hit the shuttle to each other (over a net!) in 1 minute. A target set by England squad members Donna Kellog and Gail Emms was 153 shots! And they are challenging everyone and anyone to beat it.

The event costs just £1 per pair (50p per player) to have 3 goes, but there is no limit on the amount of attempts you can have, and with half the money going to the MSPCC, there’s no excuse! There are also 10 prizes for the highest scoring pairs (5 for under 18s and 5 for over 18s) which includes a trip to the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes. To ensure nobody ‘miscounts’ you will also need a third party ‘counter’ to verify your score!

Dominic Hobdell, the Islands’ badminton development officer said: ‘It is a fantastic initiative by Badminton England as it not only promotes and publicises the sport but is also raising money for a local charity. We hope that it will encourage some new faces to come down to clubs just to support the event, and hopefully they will keep coming back. I’m also hoping to rope some of the Island squads in to take 10 minutes out of their busy training periods to have a go too!’

For further information on the 1 minute rally challenge or if you are looking for a badminton club please ring Dominic on 651572 or email: dominic.hobdell@msr.dtl.gov.im

153 shots in 60 seconds?!? That's about 5 shots every 2 seconds. I assume they just bounced the shuttle back at forth at the net; but, 153 shots in a row, what a control!

yeah, i like to see more local events on badminton skill competition just like basketball ,golf,or hockey where they are best dunk shot, fastest slap shot, fastest skating around a course, longest drive, longest putt, etc

    For badminton, we can have:

    highest jumpsmash
    fastest forehand smash
    fastest backhand smash
    best accuracy
    fastest sprinting
    best looking deek shot
    etc

Hey, how about a "hitting the dummy" contest? Place 2 manequins on a side-by-side defense formation on the opposite court and the player tries to hit any of the dummies with a smash.

If you can get live volunteers to act as dummies that would be even better. :D
