What do you mean? She is skipping the German Open (not a SuperSeries event) to get world ranking to drop as being in the top ten means that she has to compete in the SuperSeries otherwise she gets fined $5000 for skipping SuperSeries events. She's not retiring but can't afford to compete in SuperSeries competitions without the funding from the GBA.
She's now officially retired: http://www.rp-online.de/nrw/staedte/krefeld/sport/juliane-schenk-beendet-ihre-karriere-aid-1.4089440 (in German) What could be expected after the quarrel between her and the German federation. It's sad nevertheless.
Juliane Schenk ‘I’ve already retired’ German badminton singles ace Juliane Schenk told the Rheinische Post this week that she has already retired. The German daily apparently asked for confirmation after she missed her first round match at the All England this week. Schenk had retired from her first round match at the Malaysia Open in January. The Malaysia event, like the All England, was compulsory for players ranked in the top ten in the world. Schenk had announced on her website earlier this year that she was intent on getting out of the top ten so that she could avoid paying fines for missing Superseries Premier events. She told the Rheinische Post that she would be working as a personal trainer, that she was studying at the University of Cologne, and that she was writing a book. Schenk, who was ranked a career-high of 2nd in the world just before missing last summer’s World Championships, won a Superseries title in Singapore in 2012. souurce:http://www.badzine.net/news/juliane-schenk-ive-already-retired/29067/ Best luck for you, Schenk.
I think the German team is not up to other top teams in terms of their management. The former 6times German Champion also complained that in 2004 olympics he was not much supported. Seems this "old guys" in the management fight harder for their own goods than the top players achievements. I recall one news that schenk trained with a former malaysian world class player for two days but the German Association just did not allow access of this guy to the training facilities and they must play in a sport center. Second thing: The guy who is in leading position in German "ranking list" (the international players may be not on top because they have to play mainly international) says he has to pay around 5000 Euro from his pocket to just compete in international tournaments (he was 350 in the world that time).
