I recall it was in 2009, he didn't play in the All England that year, that's for sure.

He's already done his military service, he's officially retired now

But who knows, he might chuck a Lee Hyun Il and surprise everyone with a comeback. After all, that guy retired like 3 times in his life and came back 3 times?

But I feel it is the right time for Chung to go now. Same with Peter Gade. He's old now and his reactions and reflexes were not what it used to be. Not only that, because of so many injuries he's encountered because of his slow recovery time will be a much better problem had he played on... this would only draw Lee Yong Dae back

Although I would love for him to stay, but how long can he keep his performance for? One day his age will catch up to him and that day has already come

At least now he can live a comfortable life now with his wife (he married with Choi Ah Ram in early 2011). And at the same time he could help out as a coach and I'm sure the badminton team will need his experience very much. He could earn quite a bit of money too

Best of luck to Chung's new life

I think it'd be a waste if Jung didn't move into coaching, but he might want to get as far away from the game as possible for all we know:D.

He had a one of the best "all-round" styles I've seen in the past five years (and somebody's got to teach these young Korean whippersnappers about that ridiculous drop shot;)).

My simpathy for him. "Lady luck" was "far" from him, especially in 2007 & 2009 World Championships.

No major title, but for me, JJS plays very brilliantly during 2008 Thomas Cup & 2011 Sudirman Cup. JJS & LYD = the best MD pairs in both major events. They deserved the titles, not Fu / Cai. JJS / LYD win over Fu / Cai in both events, plus beat 2007 World Champion MK / HS in front of INA's home crowd during 2008 Thomas Cup.

The best MD pairs in 2010 Asian Games team event. MK / HS was lucky to avoid Cai / Fu in QF of individual event. If JJS / LYD also have the same luck, surely 2 AG Gold Medals for them

Have to disagree about the major titles. All England is not just a tournament and they wont that one twice. And in what fashion. 2008 semi surviving matchpoints and their final this year was equally impressive.

JJS was just unlucky that his career happened to coincide with those of Cai and Fu; if they hadn't been around, JJS/LYD would have cleaned up (well, cleaned up more). Still, that CHN/KOR rivalry gave us some extraordinary matches, so it's been good for us, if not them.

He looks slimmer in his wedding pics... or maybe it's just the angle of the screencap. :)

Yes, he's been saying it for four years and has never said anything different. He repeated it explicitly after winning bronze in London and has done so several times in the Korean press since. In this feature article, which came out this week, he said that Fu Haifeng told him on the podium in London that he wasn't going to continue until Rio, but that he would if Jung would.

He and Lee Yong Dae were both on an hour-long TV show this week called Healing Camp. You might get clips of it here.

So sad to see him retire... JJS/LYD vs CY/FHF games had always been exciting and entertaining. Dun think we will be seeing such exciting matches in the near future.
