Intelligent people enjoy reading. Badminton players are intelligent people. Ergo, badminton players read.
    Any favourite lines? Suggested reading?

Perhaps some of you, like me, can't help thinking of badminton, no matter how far removed the book is from the world of sports.

I think of the earnest racket-seekers on Buy&Sell forum with this one:
"There comes a time in every rightly-constructed boy's life when he has a raging desire to go somewhere and dig for hidden treasure."
-The Adventures of Tom Sawyer Mark Twain

This applies to the politeness so common in badminton, even when the skilled play the unskilled:
When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite.”
    -Winston Churchill

Just think of your favourite underacheiving player:
"Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them. With Major Major it had been all three."
    -Catch-22 Joseph Heller

I have a collection of my own... and here's a few:
(They might not be 'literary' but are surely quotable)

    Life In General:

Winning isn't everything - it's the only thing.
Blessed is he who sits on a pin for he shall surely rise.
The best opponent is one that has just lost an argument.

    Badminton:

The runner-up is the big loser that everyone will remember.
The easiest way to beat professional players is to be a line-judge.
Whoever said 'it's nobler to give than receive' is probably a poor player.

THE Best Quotes ever (and their significance towards badminton):

"Do not underestimate the power of the dark side"

don't make fun of bla.. people?

"The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force."

the quality of the racket is insignificant next to the skill of the player

"You are unwise to lower your defenses!"

    pretty straightforward...

    "Luke, I am your father!."

You just got decepted with my trick shot

Noobtron, you are a pretty interesting guy.:p;)

This thread has just about run its course, but here's a parting shot...

This bit brings to mind the position of lonely responsibility that is the lot of BC's worthy moderators who strive to keep us all in line.
By this still hearth, among these barren crags,
    ...I mete and dole
Unequal laws unto a savage race,
That hoard, and sleep, and feed, and know not me.

    -Ulysses, Alfred, Lord Tennyson

    Amended:
By this still hearth, among these barren crags,
    ...I mete and dole
Unequal laws unto a savage race,
That hoard, and sleep, and feed, and (luckily) know not me.

    I must not fear.
    Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
    Only I will remain.

    Bene Gesserit Litany Against Fear

All that is gold does not glitter
    Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring
Renewed shall be blade that was broken
The crownless again shall be king.
