loose strings

    hey i was wondering if loose strings have any effect on the smash because my strings have gotten loose and my smash's lately been going into the net and i was wondering if this was a problem with the strings or my technique.

    Absolutely, the string is where the contact occur with the shuttles and thus the power will greatly affected if the string is over-loosen.

    Restrung your racket regularly if possible.

    ya, try restring it at 27-29 lbs. Your smash will be really great.:)

    Oh Christ, this is the sort of unthinking advice that can do damage to another player :rolleyes:

    DO NOT restring at 27 lbs+ unless you are used to it. If you are going to increase your string tension, do it gradually: increments of no more than 2 lbs.

    Just because 27-29lbs works for Viper2005 does not mean it will suit you. String tension is heavily dependent on the individual. Suddenly increasing your string tension can lead to injuries, and will also make you play much worse.

    16 Year old asks if a restring would help
    35 Year old A level player says yeah restring at 27-29lbs

    phew..at least be thankful Jens Eriksen hasn't posted recommending the tension he's using :rolleyes:

    if your strings are now loose it suggests they have lost their elasticity and so your smashes are going to be effective. I agree with everyone else, get your racket restrung at the same tension, or possibly slightly higher.

    anybody going to address the actual question?
    He didn't say he had a problem with power.
    Why are the smashes going into the net?
    a reduction in tension shouldn't be the cause of that. More likely technique or timing.

    A reduction in tension is more likely to reduce control than power. It is possible that his smash accuracy has decreased as a result of lower string tension.

    You are right, of course, that technique is the first thing to look at. It could be either or both.

    He may as well get a restring anyway, and see whether it affects the problem.

    i also have one more question i forgot to ask does cold loosen strings??? im pretty sure it does but im not 100% sure

    well i remeber reading up somewhere that its a large enough tempeture
    difference that will have some impact on the string tension.
    Rather Make sense to me although not knowing how Much of an impact it would be but as nature make things expand in high temp and strink in low temp.
    Better believe it then feel sorry if shiit happen, so i normally
    bring the racket indoor with me and try not to leave them in the trunk overnite.

    Heck, since we're at it, why not go 32/35lbs. I heard it sounds really good. :p

    whoa whoa, 35lbs for a 16 year old??:eek: , u are gonna kill him.
    if he is asking a question like if loosen string effect power/accuracy, i doubt that he is pro enough to handle 35lbs, try 24 lbs instead, good all around.

    I think 23lbs would be a good tention for him to start off with. It will eventually drop to low 20's or lower when the string stablizes so it wouldn't hurt.

    Hey, I just strung my racket at 32/32 and I swear my smashs are like Lin Dan's smash. The power and speed was just incredible:eek: . I should try my smash against Don or Chris on thursday.

    I let my student borrow my 28-30 lb tension racket and he fell in love with it instantly. All his shots went further and in his words "I used less power and cleared further"

    My advise, better to try it then to never know what it is like.
