Meniscus Tears

    has anyone here suffered this type of injury? right now i currently have a miniscous tear on BOTH my knees and its really annoying and its painful at the same time. Icing it daily wouldn't do me any good and playing badminton hurts my knee so i have to sit out for a bit. I went to the doctors and they gave me cream the first time but didn't work. They gave me pills the second time and didn't work and now im going to physio. All they told me was to strengthen my knees but its really hard cause it hurts. For those who had a miniscous tear, can you guys give me advices?

    do you mean meniscus tears? I had such an injury years ago while taking a knock in my knee during a game of soccer. The knee was swollen and I could only walk without a limp after 2 weeks and climb stairs without pain after 3 weeks. I advise you to stop badminton altogether and let them fully heal first.

    Your knees are so important in badminton for jumping and lunging so it's better to start playing only when you don't feel any pain in your knees at all. Wish you a speedy recovery :D

    Azianhero, accepting 'medical' advice from anonymous friends, however well-intentioned, is not a good idea.

    You should get surgery to repair the tear. Playing badminton will only increase the tear.

    I am one who has a meniscus tear. I got it from walking down the stairs quickly!! I cannot fully flex the knee and I think I cannot really play singles anymore. I suspect even Peter Gade had a meniscal injury.

    Depending on your age and the type of injury, the treatment options vary. You could leave it and hopefully it would get better on it's own. You could have some of the meniscus trimmed through arthroscopic surgery. You could even try to have some of repaired by stitching it up, again through arthroscopic surgery. Rehabilitation will take a number of weeks.

    I too had a meniscus tear. Both my medial and lateral...had 2 surgeries too. There are other options besides the one mentioned including a collagen implant called menaflex. Some people have had great results with this where their meniscus is now back to 100% and others are still in the same position.

    I'm usually here at this site www.kneeguru.co.uk just reading about other people's experiences. But definitely consult a specialist.
