No, I don't think so. I think he will play another 2 more years at least.

Ahsan maybe retiring because he has too many injuries. Hendra can still pair with other players and rank among top 10.

I hope he will still play Thomas Cup and maybe Asian Games team event in 2018. Maybe as reserves. I don't see a good enough MD pair besides Kevin/Gideon and Angga/Ricky

Ahsan already achieved a lot by becoming world champions

Winning and losing is part of the game. Just a few losses won't take the shine.

Messi lost 3 times of major final tournament but he is still among the best of all time.
Roberto Baggio did not win world cup but he still earned lots of respect.

Sometimes I read comments regarding some high rank players, losing unexpectedly, I feel the agony of being Olympians or sportpersons

Yeah...but ahsan played in QF. And he was still nobody back then. Since 2012, he won 2 WC, 2 SSF, AG gold and several SSP.

I think this hurt him more than Setiawan.

As for Setiawan, whatever the result is, he is already being candidate for the best front court player of all time.

But, as Nietzsche said, “That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.”
I Hope he bounce back stronger as an athlete and as a person.

Pair him with Gideon, or someone do double duty as XD and MD. It's Ahsan crumbling, not Setiawan.

If you count the unforced errors Setiawan played too loose giving easy points to the opponents.

Look like they are going downhill, same like KKK/TBH.

After Rio Olympic, Indonesia must build-up next generations of world champion MD from their existing younger pairs like Fernaldi/Sulkamuljo and Pratama/Karanda.

IMO, the MDs genre this olympic is not so competitive as the London OG. Based on their usual form, Setiawan/ahsan has a good opportunity to secure gold. Perhaps its the mental pressure that took its toll?

Yes, I am surprised the-master-of-calm-under-pressure-Hendra crumbles to the pressure and made so many errors

Of course, Ahsan also crumbled because his partner was under performing.

Which makes me wonder, all the money spent by PBSI on the psychologists and the pre-Olympics tune-up are not bearing fruit.
They should not use the same people in future and try to use different psychologists

The mental pressure is greater for the hot favourites, especially during big games such as Olympics.

IMO, it's easier to train the body than condition the mind.

MD discipline will held its final tommorow, but i still doesn't believe ahsan/setiawan failed at group stage. They played quite well against the indian on first match, that should settle their nerve. But they crumbled on their last 2 matches.

Yes olympic pressure is great, but they have been on great pressure a few times before, for example Asian Games 2014 dan WBC 2015 on home soil..

Not to mention, Setiawan almost never floped when it really matter..

I think PBSI will split them this year.. maybe blend them with pratama/suwardi.

Ahsan smash has lost its magic, so he should concentrate on front court.

I think Praveen will transition to MD if Debby retires after Oly and he can be Ahsan or Hendra's partner. Really. .. Herry P needs to be replaced for god sake.

With Ahsan getting an injury (can't smash as well now) and turning into a drive everything player (okay....actually virtually all indonesians have this play style), he and setiawan will split very soon.

    Hendra will partner Rian Agung Saputro;
Ahsan will partner Berry Angriawan for the upcoming Denmark & French Opens.

I think Berry has a good smash, it's just that he's more prone to error and somehow plotted as a front player. Even at the rian-Berry combination, I think it is Berry that should be at the back as his smashes have more bite and Rian is more consistent at the front.

They just lost again to the CHN new and upcoming pair in JPN Open. So this was it. JPN Open was their last international tournament together ?
