After Chandra Wijaya retired after Thomas cup, Indonesia will have new pair in Indonesia open. The pair is Flandy limpele/ Sigit Budiarto. They will participate in Indonesia Open in Surabaya.

Hmmm, not sure about that combo, but it remains to be seen...
Flandy is stable and powerful enough, and that is perhaps what Sigit needs. I think Sigit, who likes to go for the "impossible", needs a very structured playmaker that takes care of business and maintains structure.

    News on Sigit and Flandy..

Found an article today from Jawapos which mentioned about the new partnership of Sigit and Flandy. Here's a brief summary of the article:
    http://jawapos.com/index.php?act=detail_c&id=224816

MD players Flandy and Sigit will be paired up and start their new partnership starting in the upcoming Indonesia Open(May 31-June 4, 2006 in Surabaya). Out of all the current MD pairs, they are the veteran with Sigit at 31 yrs. old and Flandy at 32 yrs. old.
According to coach Christian Hadinata, their partnership will be given a 1-yr trial period. After 1 yr, if their partnership doesn't produce any positive results, then most likely 1 or both of them will have to leave Pelatnas. "We shall see from their development. A player, who's considered past their age and his playing standard is not up to par, will be let go. As his replacement, a younger player(s) will take his spot" said coach Christian.
Coach Christian also mentioned, that young pair will be Joko Riyadi/Hendra A. Gunawan. They are targeted to be ready in 2 yrs. when the next Thomas and Uber Cup edition will be held in Jakarta. Joko/Hendra are currently ranked #25 in the world. Whilst INA's current top pairs are Candra/Sigit, currently #2 and Luluk/Alven(#5) and Markis/Hendra Setiawan(#15).
According to the article, Candra has orally requested a resignation from Pelatnas. But until yesterday, there hasn't been any confirmed written request from Candra to PBSI.

..we shall wait and see..and like DinkAlot said, it should be interesting indeed..;) :)

Why PBSI still keeping the old pairs? They already have enough contribution to the country. One year trial? I dont think they need it. It is time for them to retired and do something else... heheheee

I am not sure about this pair either. Flandy is poor at the net, and sigit is not a player to stay at the front, whereas Eng was.

Seems short sighted to put two experienced players together. I would reccomend playing These two with young players (18-21), then when they retire in 1-3 years the younger players will have better experience and can play together on a longer term.

I can't see it lasting, or having much success.

I think sigit play in front very well. Dont to worried about that. I think this pair will be like trikus/ sigit. They will show their capability. All the best kak flandy and mas sigit. nanti ketemu di Surabaya.

Sure sigit is fantastic at the net, but he is not a player who will stay at the front as often as possible, and that is the type Flandy needs.

Just to add on....from Bola, the new pairing of Sigit/Flandy will also have an additional "responsibility" as a sparring partner for the young pairs.

Honestly speaking, Luluk/Alvent can no longer be considered as a young pair since both are already 27/26 this year. Markis/Hendra is a young pair (both 22 this year) and I see bright future from them. Hendra/Joko is pretty young as well (24/21) and they will definitely be included in the top tournaments from now onwards. The later 2 pairs will be Team Indonesia's main doubles in 2 years time.

Also, Candra Wijaya will be pairing up with his buddy Tony Gunawan in the Indonesian Open later this month.

badMania, thanks for the additional infos(i forgot to note that in my earlier report:p)..I'm esp. a bit surprise to hear the news that Tony will play with Candra in the upcoming Indonesian Open. I know Tony is from Surabaya, so maybe this is a vacation trip for him to visit his family back home..BTW, just wondering, are they(Candra/Tony) going to play as independent players, not under any flags/nationality??..
Hmm, interesting analysis there jamesd20..I kinda thought about the same thing also..To an extent, when badMania mentioned that Luluk/Alven as pairs not "young" anymore, IMO, right now with the inconsistent play and performance by Luluk/Alven, i wouldn't be hesistant to paired them up with Sigit and/or Flandy. I mean, what is there to lose, since we have already seen enough the performance of Alven/Luluk's pairing. If the coaching staff intends on giving a 1 yr trial period, why not invest it in investing the 2 "veterans" with Luluk/Alven??..Who knows, with them pairing up with the 2 "veterans", maybe their game can improve..

On the 2 younger INA MD pairs, yah, PBSI just needs to start sending them to outside international tourneys to get them exposed to higher competition more and more.

    ctjcad,

Chandra and Tony will play together as individual. Its common thing in tennis but not so in badminton. In Badminton MD,WD and XD most of the time, their pairs will be from the same country.

But the tournaments is individual ones not team event like Thomas, Uber or Sudirman.

So good to see Chandra/Tony playing together again. That will not happen if Chandra still at elatnas and Howard Bach got injured. (Sorry, Howard :) )

Hoping they can at least made it into SF or maybe even be the champion and made PBSI officials eat their heart out of jelousy!

They should not tear this pair after their Olympic gold (even Sigit is Chandrra original partner) They will be real good playing together. At least they don't have personal issues about each other.

Meanwhile, now Indonesia MD had to count on Luluk/Alven and Markis/Kido. Sigit/Flandy, I had doubt about them. Both of them had lots of different partners since in pelatnas and Sigit only play very well pair with Chandra and Flandy only with Eng Hian.

Chandra play very well with Sigit and Tony. And Tony can play with everybody and still doing real good.

Yeah, if they do can someone record the matches that they play and upload them? I wonder how they will fare after all these years of not playing together.

Hopefully they will still know each other games well and beat everyone to win the title!

I agree with you, James! Of course all of them can play whichever position if necessary but usually Sigit & Flandi prefer to play in the back court, as they are stronger in the back than in the front.

Eng Hian has more control at the net and Tony Gunawan, for sure, is very dominating at the net.

Imo, Candra Wijaya is the most well-rounded in the Indonesian bunch where he's confident with both areas.

Double players are good at speed, smash, defence...I wonder why Chandra, SIgit, Tony do not play single...I guess if I don't think any of them is easy to defeat if they play single:)

Because they don't have the endurance & stamina to cover the whole court by themselves.

With that said, Tony did try playing singles in the US 2004 or 2005 and he went all the way to final but lost to some good Taiwanese single player! That is very impressive for someone who's in his 30's and haven't been playing singles since when he was in a young teenager!
