^^Oh, you're back..^^ ..wow, 2 months and we all thought you're gone for good... It's up to you, basically. I don't use Nikon but I think the difference between an AF and AF-S is minimal. The "S", in the AF-S, stands for "Silent", correct??..
is it? i thought AF-S has a internal focus motor...and therefore making it faster...and quieter...lol
As far as I know, the most recent 50mm f1.4 will allow the Nikon camera models D40, D40X and D60 to auto focus. If you have a D90 or higher it does not make much difference. Having said that, note that the reviews on the more recent Nikon 50mm f/1.4G AF-S. In comparison with the older 50mm f/1.4D, the images wide open are sharper, but AF performance is somewhat slower. http://www.dpreview.com/lensreviews/nikon_50_1p4g_n15/ Here in Canada the 50mm f/1.4D will cost around 400 the 50mm f/1.4G should be over 600. Is your choice which one suits your budget better. Personally I am going for the 50mm f/1.4D - I just need the approval of the budget by the authorized person.
^^Have you checked..^^ ..your local craiglist??..found quite a few deals.. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/s...ens&catAbbreviation=sss&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max
im so sorry for bringing up this thread alive again...school has literally dominated my life for the last 5 months (ubc engineering = no life)...anyways since the winter break is coming up...i've been reading up on lens again...and yes...i havent bought anything yet...ubc engineering degree = very pricey ... just wondering how much difference in bokeh quality is for the 50mm 1.4 AF/AF-S and the 1.8 AF? is the extra $$ worth the better bokeh quality on the 1.4? i think speed shouldnt be an issue (hopefully i will be taking both badminton pics and regular portrait pics in "well-lit" places)...as i heard the d90 settings can be adjusted to compensate for speed...unless im wrong? i can technically afford either/or lens...but i have been strongly recommended by friends to get an external flash (looking at SB600) ...so either i get the 50mm 1.4 AF-S or 50mm AF and wait a bit for the flash or just get the 50mm 1.8 + SB600 now... any further advice? and thanks to ctjcad whos has been giving really good info so far
from your line of questioning, it sounds like you have don't enough photography experience to be able to look at a f/1.8 photo and be able to tell that f/1.4 would have been a more suitable aperture. for your purposes the differences in bokeh are irrelevant. 50/1.4 will give you a brighter viewfinder than 50/1.8, which is helpful for lowlight photography. if you have no interest in lowlight photography then this is also an irrelevant point.
yea i agree with you...im a total newbie at photography...my dad knows quite a bit about photography...but hes not a very good coach...do you know any good sites where i can learn from scratch all i need to know? i guess i'll stick with the 1.8 for now...since it is significantly cheaper and will upgrade later when i get more experienced in the art of photography ...
www.dpreview.com has a good glossary to explain exposure, depth of field, etc. with dslrs you can keep playing around with different aperture/shutter/iso combinations until it becomes second nature. once you're technically familiar with your camera then it's quite easy to learn about composition later.
