    The quarterfinal round will be rolling this afternoon after plenty of upsets yesterday, let's see who can make some noise in spacious Singapore Indoor Stadium.

    It's time for the underdogs, mediocre players to shine in Lion City, one by one hot favourites were ousted in one day, seven seeded players shared same destiny, what a tournament! With that fact, the draw is very open for anyone to crown MS title here. Giant-killer Hu Yun who stopped the in-form World Champion Chen Long winning streak since Dubai Finals last December will be challenged by another Chinese player, Tian Houwei. Another big stunner Prannoy HS Kumar who dumped Jorgensen once again has the energetic Kento Momota to hunt semifinal ticket. Defending champion Simon Santoso still maintains the momentum to repeat last year victory and today he will up against the explosive Thailand #1 Tanongsak. One remaining tie will see Kashyap contra Leverdez.

    Lopsided head-to-head of Wang YH v Intanon, 8-0 is favour to lanky Chinese, chance for Intanon to score first ever winning to beat the below-par Wang. Stunning height discrepancy between Sun Yu and her opponent Nozomi Okuhara, interesting duel. Second seed Wang Shixian will take on another Japanese prodigy Akane Yamaguchi while Chinese Taipei talent Tai Tzu Ying has really smooth draw en route to semifinal.

    Three INA MD with one last four slot has been guaranteed, Ahsan/Setiawan v Nayaka/Yusuf. Pratama/Suwardi has an uphill task who face world #1 Lee YD/Yoo YS, two remaining ties will offer unpredictable outcome, Endo/Hayakawa v Conrad/Kolding and Lee SM/Tsai CH who performed well last week against Fu HF/Zhang N.

    Top-seed Matsutomo/Takahashi is barricaded by three Chinese WD at top half, rocky route to reach finale. At lower half of draw we see a healthy situation, four different nations will fighting to two semifinal berths, Ou DN/Yu XH v Bernadeth/Pradipta and Kakiiwa/Maeda against Netherlands Muskens/Piek who will try to break Asian domination in WD discipline, they did excellent in Basel to force All England Champion Bao/Tang into the limit.

    No big surprise so far at XD department, three Chinese pairs still show their powerful play. Both Zhang/Zhao & Lu K/Huang YQ have pretty challenging opponent today, Ko SH/Kim HN and Chris/Gabby Adcock respetively. Home sole survivor Chrisnanta/Neo will oppose INA best pair Ahmad/Natsir and Xu/Ma is predicted to win over the unseeded Fadhilah/Anggraini.

    LIVE TV (court 1, 05.00pm local time) matches :

    1) Akane Yamaguchi (JPN) v Wang Shixian (CHN)
    2) Kento Momota (JPN) v H.S. Prannoy (IND)
    3) Wang Yihan (CHN) v Ratchanok Intanon (THA)
    4) Hiroyuki Endo/Kenichi Hayakawa (JPN) v Mads Conrad Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding (DEN)
    5) Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir (INA) v Danny Bawa Chrisnanta/Vanessa Neo Yu Yan (SIN)

    Last week, we saw an interesting battle for WR#1 in WS. This week is a battle for places in the Top 10.

    Currently, the 9 to 12 places are occupied by Sindu, Okuhara, Sun, and Yamaguchi. Sindu will drop out of Top 10 after this week. Two of the other three players will finish in the Top 10. Okuhara became a Top 10 player for the first time this week. Either Sun or Yamaguchi will gain this honour for the first time after this week.

    Today's match between Okuhara and Sun will lock up a place in the Top 10 for the winner. The loser of this match will have to peek at the next court to see how Yamaguchi is doing. If Yamaguchi loses, both Okuahara and Sun are in the Top 10. If Yamaguchi wins, she will have to win again in the semi-finals round to secure herself a place in the Top 10.

    Regrettably, the Okuhara vs Sun match is not on Court 1 or Court 2.

    so those matches on court 1 would be available on youtube? with commentary from GC?

    can only focus on 1 court at a time when there are 3 thrilling matches playing at the same time. my eyes was straining at the end of the day in the past 2 days.

    okuhara's win over the tall SJH would give her confidence when she face SY tonight.

    If you are in the stadium it's tough from day 1 to QF where there are so many courts playing at the same time.

    SF is more manageable with only 2 courts and you can pick your favourite.

    Key for Simon to face Tanogsak is to play patient, cross-court return/placement, midrange drive and never return high lob or backhand.

    Hi CLELY, Yes Prannoy has injured his left foot. Not sure how long it will take to heal. Sad way to leave the tournament.

    if Sun Yu wins, it will be the first time she is in Top 10. Once she is in Top 10, a lot of things will change.

    This will be an important week for Sun Yu.

    You are absolutely right.
    And if you have a seat quite a distance from the courts, it became worse if your eyesight is not perfect.

    This is the worst year that I have experienced because they do not permit cameras with detachable lens to be used and you will be stopped at the entrance. With a zoom lens, one could at least bring the court nearer and see the players clearer.

    I may have to give up watching the Singapore Open in person if their strict rules on cameras were to be continued for future years.

    I just checked on the bwf youtube page. It looks like nothing for another hour and a half.

    * Go to https://www.youtube.com/user/bwf/
    * Click on "Videos"
    * Where it says "Uploads" click the dropdown arrow and select "Events"
    * You will then see the schedule
