painful feet arches

    :crying: I'm not sure if any of you have experienced this, but I usually have painful foot arches during the first few minutes of gameplay. I do all the necessary stretching and warm-ups but to no avail. Is there something I'm doing wrong? It really distracts my game, plus the fact I can't move so fast coz my feet hurt!

    Oh yeah, I use the proper badminton shoes, supportive socks, etc...

    try playing bare feet for the first few minutes that you are experiencing the painful foot aches. its either you are put too much pressure on your feet (maybe you are angling your feet prior to a shot made) :(

    i would personally strongly discourage playing bare-footed. u may just rub your skin on the ground real bad, twist ur feet or something.

    however can u elaborate on which part of your foot hurts? i suppose you might be exerting undue pressure on the front part of your feet, or your waiting stance puts tremendous strain on a certain part of your feet....or maybe even because u have a bad landing after a jump

    you may have flat feet. suggest you buy insoles with arch supports. or maybe your shoelaces are too tight. try loosening them up while warming up then just tighten them later on. this will allow blood to circulate in your feet better. works for me. :)

    Painful Foot Arches

    Hello again! I just got home from my game this evening, fortunately, my foot arches didn't hurt that much like before. I notice they hurt more when I play early morning with my Sunday group.

    Well, I will attach a photo, its specifically the Medial Longitudinal Arch. I take the normal stance when receiving. Left foot front, right foot back. (I'm right-handed)

    I try not to put too much pressure on the front part of my feet, i try to even it out. I do however sometimes land hard on my left heel when doing overhead shots, but it never has been a problem. I know doing the proper footwork not only improves your play, but also makes you avoid injuries (i twisted my right ankle twice in a row (2nd time, my ankle hadn't healed yet) and was on crutches for two weeks) I thought i'd never play again.

    Oh yeah, I thought about playing barefoot, but thinking about my feet getting sweaty during the game and the taraflex, it might be a badminton accident in the making.

    Hmm...well, as a kid, i didnt have flat feet. Do they develop with age? :rolleyes: I'm looking at my feet now, I do see some arches, but's not as defined as when I was a kid. I'll try getting those Dr. Sholes Insoles and use them with my badminton shoes. (I use the Puma Hexalite badminton shoes)

    Youre right about the shoelaces, I once tied them too tight, just standing up was painful! Also, Im sure that the shoes are the right size coz i know tight shoes can contribute to discomfort and pain during gameplay.

    I also did something wrong before, I tried using those bandage wraps and ankle supports to support my bad ankle (i had two ankle injuries) but it caused more pain in the arches.

    try the SPENCO insoles. they have diferent kinds for different needs. they are a bit expensive though. P900-1200+ a pair. you can buy in that store in club 650 in libis. its actually a physical therapy clinic. there's also a place somewhere in barrio capitolyo area (forgot the name) were they specialize in making insoles. i'll get back to you if and when i get the contact details. ;)

    try wearing Asics w/ Gel

    I experienced something similar until I changed to Asics shoes w/ Gel technology. I saw a Discovery channel program about the Gel technology (they dropped a light bulb and an egg from the second floor of a building and the Gel prevented them from breaking--also used by NASA to transport glass objects like test tubes) and so I tried a pair. I didn't think it would relieve me of my foot pain but within two weeks, my feet stopped hurting.

    Make sure you buy new ones--the ones on sale tend to corrode.

    Not just that, playing barefooted on hard flat flooring will give you more problems later on. Perhaps like vip_m, r0adk1ll needs to buy new proper badminton shoes that have arch support.

    Asics badminton shoes

    I just got any model with Gel (it says on the shoe). Prices range from 3,250 - 4,150 (I think). You can get them at Planet Sports, Toby's, Athlete's Foot, etc. or call the distributor, Sonya Trading.

    is it the sharp pain on the vein popping out from the bottom of your feet when you bend your toes upwards?

    if it is, you are exerting too much pressure on the front part of your feet. try to distribute weight evenly on your feet, or you could try those mentioned shoes;)

    yeah, sharp pain in the arches. its like stepping on nails. well, i'll try changing my shoes(again). :)

    here's what I have tried so far:

    1. my dad's walking rubber shoes (poor support, slippery on taraflex) - so that had to go.

    2. Nike Shox (too bouncy, not enough control, feel like falling forward when doing net plays) - so that had to go too.

    3. Nike Crosstrainers (uneven wear of soles caused me to have my two ankle injuries) - so that had to go.

    4. Puma Hexalite Badminton Shoes (was good at first, been using for amost a year now. I guess the hexalite construction gave out to my not-so-hexalite weight he-he-he)

    I'll try these Asics Gel this weekend, and will let you guys know how it goes. :)

    if you ever jog or run or even do a brisk walk, do you ever notice any pain, on the sole of your feet?

    No, they dont hurt, unless i didnt do any sufficient warm ups. (ex. getting up late and rushing to an early sunday game having gone on a drinking spree the night before) :D

    I think I'll try the shoes first, if it still hurts, i'll seek a professional. (at least, i have new shoes! he-he-he)

    Friends told me to try trimming down my weight. I'm on the mesomorph side. Big build, but solid. Is there any way to shrink muscle mass? Hehehe :)

    Overweight is another way of getting Plantar Fasciitis.
    Your friend is right, losing weight does help.
    As you said big build and not overweight and hence I do not know exactly.

    Do you have tight achillies tendon?
    That might be a cause too.
    Stretching everyday is good. (this is the best I think)

    Another way is to get insole.
    It helps too.
