I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times, so I apologize for the redundancy. I've read bluejeff's website on spotting fake Yonex rackets already (thanks a lot, it was really informative!). Still, this will not be much help to me since I was looking to buy a Nanospeed 8000 from an ebay seller (bmn-2549). He is auctioning it starting at 49.99 (which seemed very very very low to me), and when asked how he could sell it for such a low price, he said it was made in China instead of Japan. To add to my suspicion, his account was made only about two weeks ago (april 14th, 2006) and he has absolutely ZERO feedback. Any comments on this? And yes, I think I do realize I was a bit dumb to bid on this. I'll probably end up not paying or emailing eBay or something.

Fake racket + fake matching case! - saids it's made in 8/5/2002 on the racket code. Notice the "O" on Yonex in the shrink wrap is an instant give away as well.

Have him reported to Ebay under counterfit items.

When asked how he could sell it for only $50 USD when it retails for $210 USD here in the States:

I bought the rackets from Singapore and they made in China.

It all about the yonex marketing plan. The racket that sell in Thailand and most country around here is made in China but the racket that sell in Japan, EU and US is made in Japan. So the cost of the racket that I'm selling is lower than other country in EU and US.

About the quality it's not quite difference with the racket from Japan.

    Regard, bmn-2549!

Later, I asked about the quality differences:

It's not quite diference. As you know the the quality of the item from China is lower than the item from Japan such as the colouring. The quality is okay for the price about 70-80 USD.

    Regard, bmn-2549!

He's trying to trick you into getting the counterfit and should be reported.

All Yonex high-end rackets are made in Japan.

I see. I just read the article on what the serial code on the racket means. According to this, the racket from this seller was made in 2002. Wasnt Nanospeed introduced AFTER 2002? Also, why is there a space b/t the numbers and the lettering SP. is that just how they are or is that an oversight by the counterfeiters

What you described are other giveaways for counterfitters. NanoSpeed was introduced sometime in 2004 (for the 7K), 8K in 2005.

The spacing in the SP speaks for itself - fake since the all genuine Yonex rackets do not have space before any country code.

i see. thanks for all your help. i've learned a bunch over the past hour, haha. the $50 for a NS8000 was way too good to be true. my friend was looking at the rackets from Babolat and I was considering the nCode series from Wilson. anyone with any suggestions?

anything under $150. Which covers all the Babolat + Wilsons and leaves out the higher-end Yonex.

The painted serial number should be an obvious give-a-way that it is a FAKE!
